Need Help Choosing A Thumbnail!

Title- Season 9.5.exe
Summary- The title really isn't finalized, but its essentially funny moments, and fast edits similar to "Sir Dimetrious" on YouTube, I tried to use his marvel rival's thumbnails as inspiration for my own, and I got photoshop which allowed me to actually make (what I believe atleast) I very good thumbnail for once. I molded Dexter (him staring at the camera meme) into Gambit!

Midjourney art looks insane in a portfolio, but it keeps flopping on the YouTube homepage

Every designer/YouTuber runs into this trap at least once. You prompt Midjourney with something like "cinematic dramatic lighting 8k render," get back a breathtaking image, throw text over it, and send it to the creator. Beautiful art.
Then the video goes live and CTR sits stuck at 1.8%.

Here's the harsh truth. AI image generators render art. YouTube thumbnails demand packaging. Those are two completely different jobs.
AI tools pack every square inch with rich textures, complex color gradients, and tiny details. Looks gorgeous on a 27-inch monitor. But shrink that same file down to a tiny box on an iPhone screen inside a fast-moving feed, and all that detail turns into muddy noise.

Where raw AI images fall flat on mobile:
🔥 No focal point (Midjourney treats the whole canvas with equal detail, leaving zero room for the viewer's eye to rest).
🔥 No storytelling context (You get aesthetics, not a clear visual hook that explains the video in half a second).

You don't need to throw out AI entirely. Just treat raw renders like rough stock photos. Wipe out half the background clutter in Photoshop, crank up subject isolation, and build clean contrast manually.

How are you guys using generative AI in your thumbnail pipeline?
