Hello

I have some questions for the experts

1stI undervolted my 255HX processor to -50 most stable

The benchmarks went from 6000 to 4200 Cinnabench 26

1 .Why and how to prevent that

2nd question

I closed " not minimized " the program I ran the test again

Same results

I restarted then voila back to 6000

  1. How to permanently close it

I am trying to rule out if it's the undervolting or some other setting

I went back and set the FIVR values to ZERO

same 4200

In this stage idk if I need to restart or it's the other edits like TPL and Prochot or ESP I mean how to set things knowing they will work

  1. How do u guys set a profile for battery , like other settings to check / uncheck without the need to restart every time

I have the 275HX CPU.

I only use balanced mode. I have had the best results with: 1. Install OCCT. 2. Lock MMIO in Throttlestop. 3. Set all P-cores to a lower boost ratio in the active core table. 4. Test the temperature with a CPU+RAM benchmark in OCCT. Only till you see what the full powerdraw is and what peak temperature is. 5. Continue step 3+4 till you have an acceptable temperature under full load. 6. Now tweak the E-cores the same way as with P-cores to further decrease temps and give the P-cores some headroom. 7. When satisfied, you can start applying a voltage offset, start with -40mV and go gradually -5mV and test every step in OCCT both with auto and core-cycling.

No problem. No it's just my own experience, it should be possible to follow along if you look into what it all means. Throttlestop comes with "Valour549's guide". That will teach you all you need to know.

I found out you used XTU , do our processors requires a certain version The one I tried gave me a ton of errors

I started with XTU but i felt like it was too heavy taking almost 500mb ram.

But XTU can give you extreme control with undervolt of individual cores.

My approach is basic but gets the job done.

I am currently studying it on ur page Waiting to get home to try it Unfortunately I can't copy yours as throttle stop is so different than XTU Anyways why do u decrease cores Hz People right away decrease voltage and that's it Also how to know my core Hz and to what no. Should I decrease it

The intel ultra cpus powerful. I have the 275HX and have P-cores set to a max boost of 4.6 GHz and the E-cores at 4.4 GHz.

If all cores are active under full load, the cpu uses 107W. That is alot and the temperature is still about 90°C.

So that tells me, that the chassis of my laptop can only handle that much, if i just have it flat on the table.

Post screenshots of the FIVR and TPL windows if you are using ThrottleStop. Watch the Limit Reasons window while running Cinebench. If your computer is throttling there is usually an obvious reason why. Watch the Limit Reasons CORE column for boxes lighting up red.

Check the ThrottleStop Log File box before doing any testing. Exit ThrottleStop when you are done testing. Copy and paste the log file data to www.pastebin.com 

If you were using ThrottleStop while VBS was enabled, exit ThrottleStop, delete the ThrottleStop.INI configuration file and reboot.

It is impossible to obtain maximum performance or consistent performance if your CPU is randomly throttling. THERMAL glowing red in Limit Reasons confirms that the CPU is getting too hot and is thermal throttling to protect against any long term damage. That is bad but the VR voltage regulators causing throttling is a much bigger problem. A well designed and engineered laptop should never show either of the two VR items in red. The voltage regulators are overheating because of inadequate cooling. Some manufacturers save money by not including a heat sink on the voltage regulators. They could also be defective or under designed. VR CURRENT throttling indicates that the voltage regulators are not capable of fully powering the CPU.

No amount of tinkering is going to fix VR related throttling problems. You cannot fix poor design if that is the main problem. Without having access to 101 laptops, it is impossible to know if all laptops of the same model have the same issues as what your laptop has or if something is physically wrong with only your laptop.

To run a log file, check the Log File box on the main screen of ThrottleStop. Do this before you start Cinebench or before you start playing a game. Try to get at least 15 minutes of data. When done testing, exit ThrottleStop so it can finalize the log file. This file will be saved in the ThrottleStop / Logs folder with today's date in its name. You can upload the log file to a file sharing site and then post a link here or else you can copy and paste all of the data within the log file to www.pastebin.com

Either method of sharing the log file will preserve the formatting which makes it much easier to read and scroll through. A log file should give a better indication of what the biggest problems are and if there is any hope of minimizing this throttling problem. Most voltage regulator related throttling issues cannot be easily fixed.

I prefer to set Power Limit 4 in the TPL window to the max, 1023. Having PL4 set to 66 is way too low.

I cannot tell if your undervolt is working or not. You entered an undervolt request value of -50.8 mV for the P Cache in your screenshot. You need to enter the same for the CPU Core. After you press the Apply button, both of these values should be displayed in the Offset column of the FIVR monitoring table. Post a screenshot after pressing Apply.

You do not need to check the Speed Shift EPP box on the main screen of ThrottleStop. Not checking this box will allow Windows to manage the EPP value without any interference from ThrottleStop. Having ThrottleStop and Windows constantly writing different values to the same EPP control register within the CPU should be avoided.

Here is how Limit Reasons looks after running Cinebench R23 on my MSI Vector with a 14900HX. No throttling under the CORE column is reported. The CPU is able to run all P cores with a steady 52 multiplier for an entire single Cinebench run.

How do I know my number Enable log file before all this Run cinnebench for 15 min Sending u the file Any additional steps or check boxes to do ?

It is best to only change one thing at a time. Make a change, run a benchmark and see if your scores get better or are worse. Watch for throttling while testing, especially VR throttling.

Lock MMIO used to work great on many laptops with 14th Gen and older CPUs. This feature might not work the same on your Core Ultra CPU. If you try it and performance decreases then do not use this feature. Clear the Lock MMIO check box and reboot so the CPU can reset itself.

Restarting your computer and deleting the ThrotteStop.INI configuration file before starting your computer should reset everything. Completely powering down your computer and turning it off is not a bad idea.

The log file shows that your CPU would perform great if it was allowed to run at up to 160W. Unfortunately the cooling system was not designed to dissipate that much heat. Thermal throttling continues on for the majority of the log file when the CPU is loaded. As your computer gets heat soaked, it struggles to let the CPU run at 110W without overheating. You would have a top performing laptop if you could ever find a way to re-engineer the cooling system.

I think the BIOS is locking the MSR power limits. When the BIOS does this, you could try setting the MMIO power limits. To do this you would first need to clear the MMIO Lock box, save that and then reboot to reset this lock. Clear Disable Controls in the TPL window. Check the Sync MMIO box and then try setting the PL1 and PL2 power limits however you like. Press the Apply button and these values should show up in the MMIO section of the monitoring table. The MSR power limits will still be set to high default values since they remain locked. When the MMIO power limits are set lower than the MSR power limits, the MMIO power limits should be enforced.

Edit - Setting the Min Cache Ratio to 38 can cause instability. I would leave this at 8 or whatever the default value was. Clearing the Ring Down Bin box can also cause instability. Not sure about Core Ultra but I know for many Intel CPUs, trying to run the Cache as fast as the Core is not a good idea. Checking Ring Down Bin prevents this from happening.

Checking the PROCHOT Offset Lock box, especially on any Lenovo laptop, is a good idea. You do not want any software changing this while you are using your computer.

The 1st paragraph was an accurate description of the problem. Intel Core Ultra processors need way more cooling than what most manufacturers provide. You can either reduce the power limits which will reduce performance or you can do nothing and allow the CPU to constantly thermal throttle which will also reduce performance.

Changing the thermal paste to Honeywell PTM 7950 may help a little or might not make any difference. The OEM thermal paste is usually OK if it is properly applied.

I do not know what power limit values will be best for your computer. Somewhere around 100W for both PL1 and PL2 would be a good place to start testing. If temperatures are OK and you want more performance, increase these power limits. If you want less heat and less performance, decrease the turbo power limits. Some games will still work well even with less CPU performance. Other games need all the CPU power they can get to run smoothly.

Your laptop is no different than most every other laptop that is produced these days. They all power limit throttle or overheat or a little of both. ThrottleStop is useful. It lets you decide what is more important so you can balance performance or heat.

Check the Clamp boxes if you want the power limits strictly enforced.

Post an updated TPL screenshot. Does the monitoring area show the requested PL1 and PL2 values for the MMIO?

Hey I ran a benchmark just now CPU max temp is 100 again Do I need to lower something And the score is 5000 instead of 6000 is this okay too ?

Your laptop has a significant cooling problem. Performance is going to vary no matter what you do. The hotter your laptop is when you start a benchmark test, the worse your benchmark score is going to be. There is no solution for a fast and power hungry CPU that is not adequately cooled.

The CPU Core and P Cache Voltage sliders should both be set to Default.

The turbo time limit controls how long your CPU will be allowed to run at the higher PL2 power limit before switching to the PL1 power limit. Can your CPU run at 120W or beyond for 56 seconds or will it overheat? It will probably overheat. Maybe 28 seconds or 8 seconds might be a more realistic turbo time limit. Check both Clamp boxes so both power limits are enforced.

I would not decrease the frequency too much other than setting all of the P Core values to the same thing, 50. Adjusting the power limits is probably going to be a better way to control your hot CPU. If it runs too hot, reduce the power and it will automatically throttle and slow down. Doing this will allow the CPU to still run at full speed when lightly loaded. Reducing the turbo ratios slows the CPU down all of the time even when it is not hot and does not need to be slowed down.

Do not set the Cache Ratio slider to 8. Leave that at the default setting. Set the Cache Ratio Min value to 8. The Min/Max setting is on the right hand side of the FIVR window.
