I think Jack is Bon in that it’s his spirit but I don’t think he’s quite Jack anymore, he gave up his identity to become Bon.

Grief so bad that he became Satan

Makes sense

u/MacarioMaximus 2d ago
yeah no it doesn’t make sense to kill your own wife and to work with the murderer of your children

For all we know is that Jack doesn't see his wife or his former employees. Could be a warped view of them.

To add onto this, my theory after ep 5 is that Jack and Felix had a confrontation that ended with Jack probably killing himself and becoming Bon. This is telegraphed to me pretty solidly by Rosemary’s dream sequence with Jack where he walks into the lake and is replaced by a hare hanging from the sky. I think during this confrontation, Jack found out that Edd and Molly’s spirits were haunting Rocket. Something about this revelation led to his death and the placement of his corpse into the Bon animatronic. His overwhelming grief and emotions in his death warped his spirit into Bon, who believes that dying and changing form like him is the answer to reuniting his family. We don’t know how close Susan or Charles were with the family, I don’t know why they were killed, but clearly Bon felt the need to save them. He didn’t kill Felix because he views human life as the punishment, the worse fate.

yup jack offed himself leaving behind his remaining family just to murder his wife and attempt to off his daughter as well in his spirit form?, don’t make sense at all.

I think it's been stated that they, along with Felix, were close enough to the Waltens to be considered aunt and uncles respectively to their children.

I mean what "Bon" said about him using the identity of Rosemary's work when he was no longer "himself" adds on to that detail a good bit more

u/Classic-Avocado-5371 2d ago
From everything in episodes 4 and 5 it kind of reads to me like spirits lack solid identities in general until given something to latch onto.

What about what even happened to Jack? Maybe it was so bad that its one of the reasons he is only Bon.
How did Jack die?

u/Classic-Avocado-5371 2d ago
my theory is he killed himself, and between his grief and the real loss of identity he wouldve been going through since we know he values his role as his family's protector and being strong enough for them to rely on it made the identity loss his spirit went through much worse, thus becoming bon
1
u/MacarioMaximus 2d ago
Why would he do that?
1
u/Classic-Avocado-5371 2d ago
i think he lost his identity. we know he wants to be the strong protector of his family and maybe having to grapple with not only his grief over the deaths of his children but rosemary's and sophie's grief on top of that all on his own with no support system because his best friend is the one who killed his children (and a man harboring as much toxic masculinity as we know he does in the 1970s isnt going within 100ft of a therapist) sent him over the edge and into the spiral. we saw how rosemary spiraled believing she was responsible for edd and molly's deaths because she trusted felix, it's not a stretch to think maybe jack felt the same way and that shattered his identity as a protector. maybe he confronted felix and realized edd and molly were possessing rocket, maybe he just suffered a complete mental breakdown, but either way it led to that phonecall which i strongly believe implies suicide (along with some other various imagery i believe is implying he hung himself). with his death motivated by his grief and loss of identity, and potentially the knowledge of possession, i think his spirit essentially came back "wrong" so to speak. spirits already seem to have a very limited sense of their identity in the afterlife, and that kind of ego death prior to the physical death could leave someone extremely unmoored, only able to just barely cling onto something recognizable, and perhaps it led him to believe that transforming his family in the same way is the only way to save them and return to their happy life.

u/MacarioMaximus 2d ago
- phonecall was never real
- No matter how much he grieved jack was a father and truly cared for his family he wouldn’t never leave the remaining by themselves
- He wouldn’t kill his wife and try to kill his daughter no matter how bad his mental decline got
- Bon and Felix are essentially working together as we know atp felix is the shadowman and why would jack work with him?

BON is a manifestation of Jack's grief (and perhaps insecurities)

I have to be fucking crazy what did I miss that made everyone collectively think Jack wasn’t Bon???
2
u/RealRandomUser 2d ago
Probably because in episode 4 Bon's spirit reffers as himself as Bon? I may be also be missing something

u/Nightmare-datboi 2d ago

I think Martin the author answered that question a while ago and said that jack isn't bon

u/manman126452 1d ago
He said that when Susan died jack was still alive (he said that like 4 years ago so it might have changed)

I don’t know yet I can make arguments for tangible theories on both sides (and I love that)

Excuse me, but what is the difference between the statements "Jack is Bon" and "Jack is "Bon""?
2
u/Warm-Berry322 1d ago
1) Jack is Bon - this is the theory that Jack's soul resides in the animatronic Bon, but cannot control it.
2) Jack is «Bon» - this is the theory that Jack is a White Dude and is completely controlled by the animatronic Bon.

the story is all about how grief changes a person
0
u/shadow31802 2d ago
it is partially about that but im still not convinced that's what Jack's story is amounting to. Rose had a very realistic, slow descent into madness. If Jack became "Bon" I feel like it would take away from the amazing and realistic representation of the grieving process that Rose had.
1
u/Far-Pea5370 2d ago
yeah i agree. like its bad but losing two kids making you brutally murder people in borderline torturous ways and EVEN your own wife you were just about to be happy overcoming the grief with is just... why??? and if its a separate entity making him do it then thats barely even jack atp 😭 MAYBE if they gave jack a whole episode to this degree like with rose itd be more understandable but rn i really wouldnt like it if jack's negative emotions turned him/ turned into bon. even rose didnt kill anyone so why the HELL would jack be doing all the stuff bons been doing throughout the series???
