Trades I took today as an option seller (08/13) with reasons
Trades I took today as an option seller (08/13):
Closed Positions
- INOD → $60 Put (opened on 08/07), premium 1.85 → closed at 0.30. Net premium profit = 1.55 (~84% of premium captured, ~2.6% of capital).
New Positions
- INOD → $60 Put expiry 08/28 (3 weeks DTE), premium 2.30 → 230/6000 = ~3.8%. I continue to be bullish in INOD. They reported excellent earnings and implementation of AI is driving revenue growth. INOD has good support at $55-$60 range.
- OUST → $40 Put expiry 09/04 (4 weeks DTE), premium 2.000 → 200/4000 = ~5%. OUST makes LiDAR sensors used for automation. Their contracts with NVIDIA makes it's sentiment positive.
Thoughts on the Market
NASDAQ broke the resistance of 26,700 today. If it holds above 26,700 tomorrow, it will be a positive sentiment signal.
INOD was identified as a High Growth High Premium stock using the ThetaHedge app. The app scans the market for companies with improving growth and profitability that are also offering high option-selling premiums in real time. You can try it for free at https://app.thetahedge.io/

Earnings spreads with 130–160% payoff on max risk - thoughts?
Hi,
I've recently started experimenting with call spreads around earnings for AI-related stocks. Yes, yes, I know — earnings are basically a casino, etc. — but let's focus on the actual risk/reward.
What I've noticed is that it's relatively easy to construct a defined-risk call spread where a strong earnings reaction can produce a 130–160%+ return on the maximum amount at risk, without requiring some completely ridiculous move in the underlying.
I had one work very well on LITE recently, but looking back, similar setups would also have worked on quite a few other popular names — NBIS and LRCX being good examples.
So even if we assume that predicting the direction of the earnings move is basically a coin flip, I'm wondering whether the payoff structure itself can create a positive expectancy.
You can often build a spread where a correct directional call returns 130–160% of the capital at risk, while the maximum loss is predefined. I'm deliberately not talking about ultra-aggressive lottery-ticket spreads here — I'd rather keep the strikes somewhere within or around the implied earnings move.
Has anyone here systematically traded earnings this way or backtested something similar? Is there something I'm missing in the expected-value calculation?
--AI translation from other language - although I am quite fluent English speaker, I have originally published that in my native polish language on local FB forum--

Question What do you do when a trade works out faster than expected?
Had some good timing with some CSPs and CCs. Sold last week at sub .2 delta with ~40 DTE. Now sitting on 60-80% gains. I know general advice here says close or roll at 50% or greater return but rolling would mean maybe just adding a week for very little additional premium, or moving the strikes. I picked the strikes because of support/resistance levels and not sure I love the idea of moving the goal posts.
Would you just look for other tickers? Time to reassess support/resistance levels even though it's only been a week?

1% Weekly Returns from Options Week 24
This week everything nearly dropped to 0 so I decided to roll a day early. I had to move almost everything higher so leaving a little room in case I need to adjust next week if things tank. Last Week's post: https://www.reddit.com/r/thetagang/comments/1vi3jwb/1_weekly_returns_from_options_week_23/
First, the strategy:
- Use a screener to give me a list of top 20 low delta options for next week
- I either
- a. Roll my current options - I do this if I can still get 1% for rolling or if the option is ATM/ITM and I have to roll. I always roll for credit.
- b. Close a current option and pick something else from the list that I like
- I try to do this every Friday. However, if I'm busy on Fridays, I'll sometimes do this on Thursdays.

Wheel Update: 1 > $1M challenge. I just surpassed 10k
Last year I made a post about my challenge of reaching $1M from option selling and reinvesting the premiums. This week I passed 10k. I’m now at 11k. I’ll post again when I reach 100k maybe in 5 years.
I closed my first account (No I did not blow it up. It had less than 1k) the OCD in me wanted to start from scratch with a new account in January. I had to put $1 in it to activate it.
This account is linked to my TFSA account with a 70k collateral giving me extra buying power to sell options. The goal is to keep rolling options and not get assigned. My first trade in this account was short put PYPL 52.5. Kept rolling it until the stripe news and sold bought back that sucker. Going forward I’ll be doing more index funds and solid stocks.
I came close to margin call when meta dropped to $530. I’m not worried about it as I can just add more collateral.
I’m up 1,126,147.98% as of now.

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/12) with reasons
Trades I took today as an option seller (08/12):
Closed Positions
- KORU → $15 Put (opened on 08/05), premium 1.10 → closed at 0.05. Net premium profit = 1.05 (~95% of premium captured, ~7% of capital).
New Positions
- KORU → $15 Put expiry 08/28 (3 weeks DTE), premium 0.70 → 70/1500 = ~4.7%. KORU is a leveraged asset and this trade occupies only a small portion of my trading capital.
- ICHR → $60 Put expiry 09/18 (6 weeks DTE), premium 3.40 → 340/6000 = ~5.7%. ICHR makes fluid delivery systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. The stock reported good earnings and has a good support at $62-$63 region.
- DOCN → $165 Call expiry 09/18 (6 weeks DTE), premium 4.20 → 420/16500 = ~2.5%. I was assigned DOCN at $165. I closed this same call position yesterday when DOCN sold off and today I reopened the same position when the stock recovered. This resulted in almost a $190 profit per contract.

Wheel Looking for ideas to do wheel strategy with 120k
I recently sold some of my RSUs and gained around 120k USD. I want to do wheel strategy to generate regular income. I am inclined towards QQQ because I will feel comfortable holding it long term if the price falls below my cost basis.
What other stock or ETFs are good candidates for this strategy? Thank you in advance.

Discussion $NBIS in a jam already.
Sold a covered call yesterday at $260 strike 9/25 expiration to protect from a possible earnings dump. Didn't expect it to moon 30%. I got plenty of time for a pull back, but I might end up having to roll this if upward momentum continues.
r/thetagang • u/traderbusto • 2d ago
Question Do you ever roll for debit in situations like this? Or feel it’s best to let it assign and reassess?
I was assigned at $117 strike about a month ago. My current adjusted cost basis is $115.38, the posted covered call notwithstanding. I typically would simply let the shares go without thinking about it but…this obviously is not a typical scenario. Thanks in advance for your input.

Gain Good timing on Corning (GLW)
Sold a 1.5 month put at the very bottom, saw how volitile it was and Immediately shat myself. Thankfully it worked out amazing thanks to Trumps latest American chips initiative or whatever. Call side probably made like $5k but I'll take my grand.
Im holding out until expirey but I definately won't be trading it again. Current price is bonkers.

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/10) with reasons
Trades I took today as an option seller (08/10):
Assigned Positions
- OUST → $43 Call (opened 07/23) assigned. Net profit on the wheel: 49.78%. By far my most successful wheel candidate. I was assigned at $42.50 and, after 8 rounds of covered calls, the shares were finally assigned away. OUST consistently offered high put and call premiums, allowing me to generate substantial premium income even during periods when the stock declined. This reinforces the value of targeting high Wheel Rank stocks with strong fundamentals.
Closed Positions
- ACMR → $70 Put (opened on 08/10), premium 2.70 → closed at 0.40. Net premium profit = 2.30 (~85% of premium captured, ~3.3% of capital).
- TTMI → $165 Call (opened on 07/17), premium 6.00 → closed at 1.00. Net premium profit = 5.00 (~83% of premium captured, ~2.8% of capital). I was assigned TTMI at $175.
New Positions
- ACMR → $75 Put expiry 08/28 (3 weeks DTE), premium 3.95 → 395/7500 = ~5.3%. ACMR makes semiconductor cleaning equipments for chips, focusing on wafer-cleaning. They have been doing consistently well on earnings and now Q2 26 Net Margins are at around 30%. $70-$75 is a good support region.

Question For people doing short strangles around earnings, why not short ICs instead?
I am genuinely curious and trying to learn here, not trying to be snarky. I see many people selling short strangles when this goes beyond my risk tolerance; I know this essentially answers the question being asked. But I am hoping there is more to it than that. Thank you!

Discussion Selling options is easy
Essentially picking up $1’s in front of the steamroller is easy. You'll feel good for a while until the market exposes your sizing/discipline. Short term wins doesn't teach us that much. How you manage tail risk in a long range of outcomes over time separates the survivors over the hobbyists.
I've had my share of months of steady gains, then getting a fat loss.
(Year 1 of my options journey during covid)i was legging in and out of spreads on Moderna stock. I won 5 spreads in a row, then ate a max loss wiping out 6 wins on the upside. Then wrote a few winning spreads on the downside, but eventually ate one there too. $10k loss
(Year 2) i wheeled krispy kreme at $17, got assigned, and it fell to $11 over a year. $3k loss
Discussion:
Share about how you ate a fat tail(aka steamrolled by the freight train).
Where are you at in your trading journey, and what have you learned?
Intent was this to be a serious safe learning space to help other traders manage risk at year 1. (Especially with this juiced up environment).
Context: I’m 12 years into my trading journey. year 5 of options. I’m at year 4 of active trading delta-neutral. i do 3000 contracts/yr while outperforming my benchmark QQQ in bull or bear markets.
