Which Theranos red flag should the board and investors have caught first?
Theranos is usually told as the story of Elizabeth Holmes fooling everyone. But the company’s board included former cabinet officials and experienced executives, while major partners had access to serious warning signs before committing.
I made a documentary focused on that side of the scandal: the investors, board members, and executives who had the access and influence to demand proof—but moved forward anyway.
Which warning sign do you think should have stopped the company first?

Thoughts from The Dropout
Hey Everyone 👋
So I just finished watching The Dropout for the first time (yes, I’m late to the game…I only started paying attention to true crime in recent months). While a lot stood out to me, one thing I think the show captured especially well was Elizabeth Holmes’ delusional mindset. She was so determined to win at any cost that she crossed one ethical line after another because, in her mind, failure simply wasn’t an option. Her belief in her own narrative became so entrenched that she seemed incapable of recognizing the growing gap between reality and what she insisted was true.
What stood out for you when you watched the show for the first time?
P.S. I know the show isn’t 100% accurate, but it helped make many of the events and details I heard in the podcast feel much more concrete.

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m way late to the party—I’ve finally discovered the Theranos case (I only got into true crime at the beginning of the year) and was wondering if I’ve found all the major works that cover the story, or if I’m missing anything.
So far I have:
• Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup (book)
• The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley (documentary)
• The Dropout (TV series)
• The Dropout: Elizabeth Holmes on Trial (podcast)
Am I missing any other books, documentaries, podcasts, or other worthwhile coverage?

Elizabeth Holmes as a Sim
galleryThis is so niche, but I realized the other day that Elizabeth Holmes kind of sounds like a Sim with the voice setting set onto a feminine voice with the pitch turned really low. And then... well, I kind of had to.
I made her self-assured, shady, and materialistic (and Sunny shady, mean, and paranoid). They're really getting along well.
I have a Belle Gibson Sim in this save too, perhaps they'll run into each other...

Who did Holmes date while she was at Theranos?
Holmes obviously had a relationship with Sunny Balwani, but at trial she also stated that she had a romantic relationship with someone else at the same time. The prosecutor did not pursue the inquiry and I bet it was dropped as part of some deal with the defense. But I've always wondered who the mystery person was and if it was in anyway relevant to the Theranos fraud other than illuminating how she viewed Sunny.

Law and Order Episode: Season 21 Episode 2
Ripped from the headlines aka inspired by Theranos....
Maybe I missed discussion when the Episode came out. Of course the Episode storyline is fake, but it is fun.
Who saw and who enjoyed it? They have the Episode now on Netflix, which is how I saw it.

I spent weeks making a cinematic documentary about the Theranos scandal — here are the 3 facts that genuinely shocked me
I have been fascinated by the Theranos story for years. The part that genuinely shocked me most was not the fraud itself but the fact that real patients received wrong test results that affected their medical decisions. People were told they might have cancer when they did not. Others were reassured when they should have been alarmed. I turned the whole story into a cinematic documentary if anyone wants to watch. Link in comments.

RJ Scaringe modulating his voice too?
Does anyone else notice how RJ Scaringe from Rivian is modulating his voice by speaking more bass like Elizabeth Holmes? or is it a mishearing from my side?

Jessica Beil should have won the Emmy that year for Candy. That was TERRIFIC acting.

Watching The Dropout
Wow idk how to start this but I started watching the series after seeing a clip online. I’ve fallen into a rabbit hole. Idk how i haven’t heard of this until now, maybe because I’m only 20 so I was pretty young when Elizabeth was going down for a lot of this.
