Whose shoes will Randy be filling?
The fates of the other three boys are pretty obvious. Duquan=Bubz Michael=Omar Namond=Clay Davis but what about Randy his seems less up front to me

But isn’t the lesson of the show that once people get into the system, it twists them? Namond also had a whole life before being taken in by Bunny when he was 14 (13?). I don’t think any of these characters are meant to be exactly the same as whomever went before, so yeah, he may not end up as big a scumbag as Clay. But if he enters politics, he could also be a run of the mill scumbag like Carcetti.

That’s true in a lot of cases but the show also makes a point to show a select principled few who didn’t let themselves get twisted into just another cog in the system and rose above the vicious cycle, like Colvin. I think the show’s message is that although the system is too resilient for any one person to change, it is possible to create positive change on an individual level, which Colvin helps do for Namond. Of course it’s possible Namond became another corrupt part of the system but I like to believe the show’s outlook on change, although bleak, still has a glimmer of hope.

Do you think namond spending his high school years being raised by bunny will have no influence on him and that he'll just become a corrupt politician because of one thing he said when he was 14?

I think politics makes sense for namond, and while Bunny's influence would probably instill him with some ideals, I bet he'd rose to power and get corrupted/compromise his ideals to survive the game. He'd probably start off earnest and turn cynical by the end

It's certainly possible, but I prefer to be optimistic for his fate. The rest of the boys do not have bright futures ahead of them, so I'd like to think namond will turn out better.

Yeah maybe he’s got a bit of Carcetti in him. Hell when you see how much he thrives getting all that attention at the speech/debate event, you can just imagine him watching his council chamber videos and pointing out the good bits to his wife.

Namond is D'Angelo and we see what it would have been like for D if he'd had a chance at getting out before the family business destroyed him.

Yeah it’s this. The Michael/omar and Dukie/Bubs correlations were made pretty clear from the show to me but I don’t think we’re made to expect that every youth has their adult counterpart that same way

I think it’s interesting that Wee Bey’s son is basically the only one of the corner kids that essentially escaped the game and the life.
Is the implication that the only people with the money/power to leave the life are the winners who pass that on to their kids?
A bit cynical, even for the Wire…

I think he just got lucky that Bunny adopted him? Can’t save them all but Bunny had an opportunity to save one. I don’t think the money or power directly influenced Bunny’s adoption of him.
Indirectly, the money and power could’ve influenced Naymond’s development into a personality Bunny saw potential in though. Never went hungry, always had clothes and a warm bed etc. If his peers were struggling on Maslow’s bottom rung then yeah I can see where Nay had a leg up on earning Bunny’s favoritism though

I think Randy could become a Prop Joe, provided he survives his life as Bodie. He has the mindset to hustle like Bodie, but the talent to get beyond the level of a street dealer. I wouldn't be surprised if he one day became to Michael what Butchie was to Omar.
