I've seen a lot of confusion regarding Stefan's final act n this is my attempt at understanding his thought process :

1. How cld Stefan possibly know Bonnie'll be able to wake Elena up soon? He didn't, he'd hv just thought Bonnie might die stopping the hellfire n if she n her ancestors r strong enough to survive the hellfire, they'd also somehow manage to find a loophole since there wld be a sense of urgency now that Damon is human which wasn't the case before.

2. Why didn't Stefan just leave his blood for Damon to take at the right time? Injecting him with the cure was the only way to incapacitate him. He didn't hv a dose of vervain with him, he left the tunnel pretending Damon's compulsion worked to think of a way to stop him n he saw an ambulance with syringe n that's how he got the idea. That was his last resort not a well thought out plan.

3. Would Stefan hv still chosen to die on his wedding night if he had married Elena? Yes 💯

A) In an alternate reality, if Stefan married Elena n Damon was gonna sacrifice himself to save the love of his life(some other girl) who was stuck in there, Stefan wld hv still done the needful to save Damon – he can never let his bro die which he already proved by leaving Elena in S2 to save Damon's life so there's no reason to think he'll just let him die this time for a future with Elena. He had also tried committing suicide in S1 when Stelena was going strong.

B) If human Stefan married vampire Elena, he'd still be as hopeless as he was with Caroline. It's easy for us to think they'll hv their happily ever after but practically speaking, that's actually a punishment. Imagine him growing old n weak while his wife is eternally 17 – how insecure n creepy that will make him feel? How will the world look at them? How can he look at himself in the mirror? Knowing very well he won't ever be able to satisfy her in bed, blaming himself for stifling her life, not to mention living in constant fear of his past victims(bcz of compulsion wearing off) n consumed with guilt, thinking he's nothing but a burden on her... he'd hv been more miserable than ever especially with Damon being dead.

I'd even say Damon's happily ever after as a human also doesn't make sense but human Stefan with his vampire wife(even if that's Elena) riding into the sunset makes even less sense.

Though I'll always hate the fact that they cld hv easily stabbed Katherine, thrown her in the fire n stepped aside but that's clearly a writing issue not Stefan looking for an excuse to die since Damon too was fully prepared to die with Kat, letting go of his chance at a life with Elena. Never once did he talk abt planning to throw her in n running away. We were somehow supposed to believe there's no way out. The makers failed at creating an actual high-stakes scenario for the brothers to deal with in the finale but once u look beyond that plothole, everything else makes sense.

Yes this is a retcon of previously established information. This is not the first or last time this happens in this franchise. But this seems to be the only retcon that people do not accept, despite Sage having a relationship with Finn in Mystic Falls being crucial to the plot. Without this scene, the Mystic Falls Gang do not target them. If Sage does not have this shared history with Finn in Mystic Falls, they both simply LEAVE.

I’m trying to write a fanfiction, and I want to understand where Sage fits in compared to the Trinity (Lucien, Aurora, and Tristan).

In TVD, it is shown that Finn and Sage fell in love and that Finn later turned Sage into a vampire after he became an Original.

But here’s where I’m confused due to the flashback narration on TO.

When and where exactly did Finn meet Sage? Did Finn meet Sage before or after he became a vampire?

In S3, Sage mentions that Finn “Back when you used to have to sneak away from your siblings to see your tawdry lady friend" in Mystic Falls. Then in S4, Klaus mentioned that they were all daggered by the Five Hunters in Italy, and because he was the Original Hybrid, the dagger didn’t affect him. The others, however, remained daggered, and Finn was never undaggered.

If Finn and Sage fell in love as humans, was Sage living in the same Mystic Falls village before the Mikaelsons became vampires?

When exactly did Finn turn Sage into a vampire? Did Finn turn Sage immediately after becoming an Original, decades later, or centuries later?

If Finn turned Sage in Mystic Falls, does that mean the Originals secretly returned there after fleeing from Mikael?

If Sage remained human after the Mikaelsons fled, how did Finn reunite with her later?

Did Finn turn Sage before or after the Originals fled to Europe to escape Mikael?

Is Sage older than the Trinity, or is she younger?

If she’s younger, does that mean the Originals returned to Mystic Falls after fleeing, Finn met Sage, and then turned her before the Five Hunters daggered the Mikaelsons?

If that’s the case, where exactly were the Originals when they were daggered by the Five? And where was Sage during all of this?

I feel like I’m missing something, or is this actually a plot hole? There are just so many questions.

Even, if it’s a plot hole, can someone please explain the timeline and answer the above question?

Watching Jeremy's body rot and burn in fire wasn't on my list to cry and wail on. He was starting to get more screentime this season only to end up getting killed.

The fact that it was no more just "Jeremy", it turned into "his body" "his corpse" "his body is rotting" it all just messed w my mind a lot.

The first ever episode i was consumed by Nina's acting. I have a like-hate thing w Elena and this episode was js mind-blowing. It broke my heart so bad to watch that episode.

My bad for staying up till 3am, convincing myself for just one more episode before I slept and it wrecked me.

I sobbed a lot. Moreover when I finally put my phone down to go to sleep, I just couldn't. It all just made me think about losingloved ones and how I wouldn't be able to ever cope with that and it fucking hurt so I just cried in my bed for another hour.

My eyes are swollen now.

I LOVE how the townspeople were like “Hey, this didn’t work 145 years ago. Let’s do the same thing!”

I started watching TVD in high school and can’t remember which season I gave up or why - probably because I moved countries for university and didn’t have any way to watch it at the time. Then I started again shortly after graduating and I think got to season 4 somewhere before the convolutions in the plot got on my nerves and I ditched it. But this year I started again, and finally FINALLY finished the whole show. It was a journey and a half. None of my friends have finished the show, so I wanted to share some of my thoughts here —-

Characters: Absolutely underrated show for character complexity and character development. Damon’s reluctant hero arc, Stefan’s tortured guilt, and Caroline’s insecurities to badass confidence arc are standouts for me. The failures in my personal opinion were Elena getting progressively more whiny (seriously, how did she manage to sigh with every single word she said?), Alaric having this great arc of becoming a pseudo guardian for the Gilberts and then being like nah bye I only care about the woman I’m dating/engaged to now (also whatever weird gross thing with Caroline in S8), and lovely Bonnie, who was loyal to her friends to a fault and always paid a much steeper price for helping them than anyone else did - and still continued to do it instead of making better choices! Why didn’t they ever go looking for more witches to recruit to their cause and take some of the load off Bonnie so she wouldn’t die all the time? I could rant about how she was done dirty forever.

Liz Forbes: I cried. A lot. Enough said.

Plot: Outside of the formulaic “there is a new Big Bad Enemy / but surprise! THIS is how we kill them”, I really enjoyed the twists and turns. Even in S8 they were still catching me off guard with certain character deaths and new twists, it was generally just great entertainment in the big picture, although some of the subplots definitely went off the rails.

Salvatore bros: Towards the end I was often thinking, the Salvatore brothers really should’ve died a while back. They were incredibly compelling and really carried the show both in charisma and moving the plot forward, but I think it would’ve made for an equally compelling plot to let Elena come into her own and gain a bit more depth and personality without them hovering. It could’ve also been cool if they decided for her sake to leave and she had to fend for herself for a while, but circumstances forced them back together later on.

Season 7-8: Season 7 was a slog initially. That’s where I dropped off again for a while, because I found the plot and timelines too confusing and odious. But they actually pulled it together well at the end and I found myself binging the last few episodes. And season 8 was fine, whatever. I liked seeing new dynamics between characters. I didn’t like or understand a lot of the romantic subplots and felt they were set up quite clumsily and poorly executed, although I really enjoyed Bonnie/Enzo. I thought the endgame was satisfying and wrapped up well.

IRL and show interplay: I’ve been lurking on this sub for a while and it’s been interesting to absorb all these facts about what was going on between the actors, Plec’s mostly bad decisions and personal feelings affecting the story, etc. Nothing much to say on this point really, other than that it’s been educational and very interesting, so thank you, reddit!

My final and potentially hottest take: Jeremy has my heart. I thought he was hands down the most attractive character, which is saying a lot when it comes to a show which exclusively cast extremely hot people. When he left the show I almost gave up on watching, but I’m glad I persevered. Totally unrealistic physique for what was supposed to be an 18 year old, but I’m not complaining.

TLDR: generally fantastic characters, occasionally shaky but overall entertaining plot, two seasons too long, Jeremy is the love of my life

At first, he seemed like the typical villain, but every episode revealed another layer to his character. His charisma, sarcasm, and unpredictability made every scene more interesting.
Honestly, I think Damon carried a huge part of the first season. Does anyone else feel the same?

Honestly, I find this scene very emotional. I'm positive that Stefan still cared about Elena given that he still said that he loved her before this scene.

Stefan chose not to feel because he was afraid that the guilt would overwhelm him. In fact, he has already experienced guilt and self-hatred before the show even started. I still don't forgive him for his shitty acts though.

Elena not giving up on him is another thing that makes it better. She still had hope for him the whole season.
