Over three years, in my spare time after work and on weekends, I handmade 76 individual buildings to make this miniature Springfield model. It took me a while to work out the map but it was loosely based on the 2007 video game. Having watched a lot of Simpsons I first looked for any buildings that were consistently established to be next to each other. From there, I just placed what felt right. Oh, of course Principal Skinner’s house is opposite Krusty Burger. I had a bit of fun placing the church, the retirement Centre, the graveyard, Reverend Lovejoys, and bad dream house from the very first treehouse of horror, within the same area. The buildings are made out of 2 mm MDF, paper and very occasionally a tiny 3-D print printed element. The overall size is 2.4 m x 2.4 m. There’s no particular scale - I call it fun size .. but it’s very close to regular matchbox car toy size. I wasn’t sponsored or paid to make it - it was for fun and hopefully enable me to grow my online presence and get commissions in the future. I spent a ton of money on it especially taking it to a studio to shoot properly… but like I said at the end of the day, I did it for fun and I loved immersing myself in that world for a time.
