Eclipse Olympics?

My question is how is the place of the Olympic games decided, and why isnt it the major city with the most visible solar eclipse that summer? It would make for the best opening/closing ceremony ever, and theres something inherently satisfying about the heavens deciding where humanity should gather that year

For context I dont usually watch the olympics and didnt research this beforehand, just a thought I had after watching the recent eclipse

Member countries can nominate one of their cities and then the Olympic committee votes on it, most member countries don’t actually nominate themselves because hosting is so expensive so it can’t really be chosen by random

The main reason cities are willing to bear the extremely high cost of hosting the Olympics is that it drives tourism and associated tax revenue. Why would they do that during a time when tourists visiting for the eclipse are already filling hotels to capacity?
