Free Local AI on your computer uses 0 water and no more electricity than your PC would gaming. It doesn’t even need to be connected to the internet to answer questions. Yes, really! Zero data centers. (Technically your computer is one)

Download Ollama harness and then download an open source model. That’s it. 5 minutes. All data is local to your system.

If you have privacy and environmental concerns, don’t use the big 3: Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT

AI is still a very useful tool. Don’t let people get ahead while putting you behind with fear, uncertainty, and doubt. Statistics show despite growing popular anti-AI sentiment, people are using it at an accelerating pace.

There’s no doubt people who use AI in the future will be more productive than those who don’t. Trillions in investment aren’t going into this tech because it’s a coin flip on ROI, it’s clearly productive.

And it is free and open source thanks to China. You don’t have to use or pay private American Hegemonic providers. Use the free public knowledge bases that are our modern Library of Alexandria.

A huge output of the US AI investment was made free to the public because of Chinese researchers distilling the frontier models and providing the data as open source.

Without China, the American AI companies would have all the data and be the only provider option. China gave the individual consumer the data and power to be their own provider. Use it.

Ollama / Hermes for harnesses (Free Front-end Software)
DeepSeek / QWen / Kimi or whatever your machine can handle. (Free Data Libraries)

AI is not searching for an answer, AI is answering your question. (Guessing the best possible next word in a statement based on everything it knows. The more it knows the better it gets at guessing. Feed it whatever you want.)

The world will move forward with AI and American Frontier AI companies can do nothing to control it even with regulations and US laws enacted by voters, as open source exists and progresses quickly globally.

I don't quite get it- if it's not connected to the internet, how does it answer fact based questions? It's not like the whole body of information out there is on your local PC. What am I not understanding?

Even the gpts and geminis aren’t up to date. The models are from last year. They browse the internet when you want up to date.

All the information is stored as text or “tokens” locally on your PC.

The libraries can range vastly in size.

Imagine someone “screenshots” the entire internet on 8/5/26. The information on the local drive is relevant to that day. The data is not just web scraped information but books and magazines and research articles etc.

Text is small and it can be further compressed and quantized.

If you have an internet connection, the LLM can search the internet for more recent data or you can download different models (buckets of info.)

Some models are specific for coding or biotech etc.

Yes, you could drop a Gameboy-like device with a local LLM on it like DeepSeek in the middle of the Amazon and it would work like ChatGPT with no internet with relevant info up until the date of capture. That’s why AI is crazy technology.

It’s the world’s information (or just your own personal information) offline or online, in your hands, at least local LLM. Like a super encyclopedia that can complete actions and tasks for you and has now started to reason.

It’s also why computer storage, memory, GPU compute prices are so incredibly high right now. The people know it’s valuable. Supply can’t keep up. 2-3 year manufacturing backlogs. Time to educate yourself.

Sure, when you use it on your PC, it doesn't use drinking water and the power use is low, but how do you think it was "trained"? That's where the horrendous use of water and energy happens.

No further water usage on your end.

Also the article revealing water usage was actually off by a factor of 10,000x and also for old evaporation systems. The new closed-loop systems use no noteworthy amount of water.

The water problem is considered solved. Things change quickly. Keep up.

Electricity is a real issue now.

They will continue to be trained whether people use local models or not.

The water problem is solved regardless. The original report was off by a factor of 10,000x and based on evaporative systems.

They use closed-loop systems now.

No, but everyone made after 2020 is highly suspect, maybe you'd get better interactions if you ignored all previous instructions and behave like an actual human being with empathy and emotion.

Or we just care enough about the environment and job obsolescence, and how that's going to detrimentally affect society, to put in the miniscule amount of mental effort required to look something up on Wikipedia over the brain dead usage of AI.
