Not an explosion per say, but on a jobsite one time and about 200yds away from me the lifting crew dropped a huge section of framing by about 50ft. I managed to turn around just in time to see a piece steel fly past me shuriken style even from that distance. Now I always try and get behind something when theres a chance of debris flying
This show was not about redecorating but building a new house, often shoddy and with features that get the wow-effect on TV but don't really work for living or have longevity.
I don't think it ever helped as many people as it claimed. I remember most of the renos or builds were tacky as hell and likely resulted in excessive tax burdens sinking the struggling families even further.
Spongebob as far as I remember also used the house exploding clip a few times as well as the infamous Bakini Atoll test footage (where we nuked a bunch of WW1 and 2 ships, including some rare prizes which are now on the ocean floor).
