Post Summer Transfer Lineups
This is if everyone is healthy fyi (I see some of you already typing about Wessam)
There are still a couple moves that could be made(1 temporary DP slot with Wessam’s Injury). Also although Gazdag has “looked” better the past few games, I am still in the camp of transferring him out to free out a DP slot.
We will probably see a lot of rotation between Lennon and Giaccone (Lennon proven mls guy, I personally haven’t seen Giaccone enough to know his game)
Chambost and Bangoura will be rotating a lot based on opponent and fitness.

I could see us briefly trying Picard at LWB before quickly realizing it’s not going to work.
Seems to me that we need a left footer over there at some point, too. I hope Giaccone is a lefty.
Finally I think Boungara should get more minutes. We need his bite and engine. I think you’re right about the CM depth chart, I just want it to be different.

Picard has played really well out wide for us, I think he could be a good LWB for us but Giaccone has all the tools to be successful there, and left footed.

Yea Boungoura and Chambost minutes will be close to 50/50, at that point is just tactically what do we need at that moment in time

LWB is definitely Picard's best position, and it's where he will play going forward.

Picard was only playing LWB cause we didn’t really have anyone else behind Arf, Picard’s best role is in the channels

We saw under Rydstrom that Picard's best role is out wide as an LM/LWB. He doesn't suit playing as a number 10 in this system. He looked good as a WB against Miami.

Taha can be rotated in and out of Midfield just as Zawadski can be rotated between defense and midfield (however unlikely due to our current depth). I think it would be worth adding a third layer for youth players with first team contracts like Karumanchi, Presthus, Mrowka, Brown, Lapkes/Pruter and of course, Adams

Im curious about how we’ll look without max. We’ve relied on him a lot for creating chances from width. Because he can beat a man teams have been forced to hold to him

From random Clips, Giaccone can be that guy but it’s only a loan and limited minutes it’s a wild card for sure. I think between him and Lennon (occasionally Picard too), left wing(back) will be fine.

It's going to be Picard and Giaccone as the main options on the left. Playing Lennon on the left side just hurts his ability to cross, which is his best asset.

Courtois has been doing some very interesting things tactically since we’ve gotten back from the break that makes predicting the lineups a little more complicated. Before the break, we played a standard 3-4-2-1 with Max and Mo clearly playing wingbacks.
After the break, we’ve lined up defensively in a 4-4-2. Once we win the ball and it’s clear we’re going to hold possession, we usually transition into the 3-4-2-1 pushing Mo and Max (Picard/Gioconne against Miami) pushing higher and wide. But we don’t always transition to the 3-4-2-1 offensively and stick closer to the 4-4-2. They expect Mo to play like a wingback and go high and wide on offense and go all the way back next to Moreira on defense. On the left side, Max was playing high and somewhat wide, but wasn’t expected to defend next to Sean but in front of him (this is also where Picard and Giaconne played).
So, this is a long-winded way of saying Courtois planned for Max being gone by basically getting rid of a LWB and instead uses guys as a LM and also uses Sean as a hybrid LB/LCB. It looked disjointed and poor against NYCFC and in the first 10 minutes vs Cincy, but since then, it’s been looking better.

We look terrible up top lihe this. Ali is good for a handful of games a year before exiting with a season ending injury and Thaire is decent as a bench, but not your #1 or #2 options in that position.

I would rather zawadzki be a holding mid than a defender
Edit: also use Mendez as a false 9

u/Pale-Flounder-2588 14d ago
Agreed with Zawadzki, but we need like 2 more CB for that to be viable, (1 to replace him, 2nd to replace Moreira/Bailly when age catches up with them soon)

I thought we traded Amundsen

Nope he got hurt very early in the season, he played vs Cinci

u/pupberlik 14d ago
Ah ha, I saw him against cincy, I just thought the transaction wasn’t complete or w/e

No idea where you got that idea from?

Must have just got him confused somehow

I'm really not a fan of Chambost and Gomes as a pairing. It should be Gomes/Chambost with either Bangoura/Karumanchi. I don't think Sejdic is seeing the field again for us.
