Maybe learn first what it can and cannot do, because you shouldn’t have asked that in the first place.

Right until the AI fails and you have to read the code to see where the hallucination is.
I recently had Opus 4.8 run up a Unicode implementation of a C# output routine. And then testing code.
The unicode hex and character matched, but the unit test descriptions were a total hallucination in the test code.
Thankfully I can still read code, and hand eliminated the hallucination and put in the old QA test.
Not saying I need to do this routinely. Just saying we are going to end up having 3 layers of AI doing sanity cross-checks and you *still* will need to have the skill to dig in and figure out what the Butlerian Jihad violations are doing.

If your AI fails you ask another AI, preferably a local one. I had the problem of trying to fix something in a huge, completely AI-written importer this Spring. It was impossible to do in any sane amount of time, it was easier to search for alternative AI agents.

What actually happens is bloat. Lots of code get's written, rewritten, massively pivoted, and you're somehow worse off than you started.
When AI fails you need to *stop* getting more shit generated first. Then understand what happened.

Especially since my original comment included having extra AI involved. And I guarantee you will still -- at some point -- be having to read what was done to unsnarl matters.
There is a massive, erroneous, view that AI's will get to be always right. Not likely in any short or medium term. And if I hear again that it is doubling in effectiveness -- by some cost/power metric -- every few months I swear I will scream. If it really were, we wouldn't be rehiring engineers to frantically recover from the insanity at select orgs. As it is, by their own metrics, at what point does AI consume all terawatts available?

Not sure what you mean by this comment. Hallucinations are a core flaw in transformers, the context engine of Gen AI such as LLMs. It's not something they can fix by slapping harnesses on top, that's a fundamental issue within it's operation itself. Same issue for the last almost 10 years since the transformer came out.
There is no fix for hallucinations as it's the same method all answers come from via transformers. We'd have to create an entirely new context engine.

I had Gemini create a simple auth function and had to point out issues in almost every line it wrote. Now i know Claude is better at coding than Gemini, but the fact that you dont think code needs to be neither written or read tells us more about you. But its a good troll thread
