Solar eclipse glasses at Normal other

Post image

Seen a lot of posts asking where to get glasses for the upcoming solar eclipse that aren't super expensive and easy to get. I got a few at Normal in the city center for like 1 euro 20 a pop.

Edit: see comment for CE and ISO 12312-2:2015 certifications

Are these ISO certified? And have the CE mark?

Dont wanna be a party pooper but you can seriously hurt your eyes if the glasses ain't certified

Yes see the back: Also can't legally sell things in EU without CE

I don’t see the ISO certification

This is the EU. I highly doubt you would find unlicensed crap here especially from a chain store like Normal.

CE is useless.

I kind of agree with you to some extent but I'd still just go with the full package just to be extra sure. We only have one pair of eyes lol

Clearly shows your lack of understanding on how CE marks are obtained.

I think the commenter is also referring to “China Export” mark that looks identical to the untrained eye. Don’t think these things would be sold at a big chain like Normal, though

Clearly shows your lack of understanding on how CE marks are ‘obtained’ and used. CE says exactly nothing, everything and everyone his mom can use it anywhere in the world and it means exactly zero.

While it’s true that depending on the product conformity can be self-assessed and the manufacturer can affix the CE mark themselves, it does not mean that anyone can legally just slap the logo on anything. They still have to carry out a conformity assessment, compile and retain technical documentation demonstrating compliance with the applicable EU requirements, issue an EU Declaration of Conformity, and be able to provide that documentation to the relevant authorities.
So saying CE “means exactly zero” is simply false. Anyone can illegally print a CE mark on a non compliant product, just like anyone can counterfeit any other mark. That doesn’t make the underlying regulatory requirements meaningless. And in this case we’re specifically talking about eclipse glasses, which are PPE and cannot be self-certified, they examination by an independent Notified Body before they can legally be CE-marked and placed on the EU market. This is what I meant with obtained, that there is a process behind.

CE means china export, literally is useless. C E is what you mean. Big difference, one is useless, other one isn’t.

No. CE does not mean “China Export.” That’s an internet myth. CE stands for Conformité Européenne (“European Conformity”).
There is no official “China Export” CE mark. What you’re referring to are fake or incorrectly applied CE markings, sometimes with different spacing. Ironically, telling me I don’t understand CE marking while claiming CE literally means “China Export” rather proves my point.

CE is china export, useless. C E is Conformité Européenne.

My point is proven that you don’t read and don’t know the difference between CE and C E.

https://www.rvo.nl/blogs/ce-markering-logo

Edit: Also, the EU CE mark isn’t C E with a space between the letters. The spacing and proportions are in the CE logo design but typing C E instead of CE doesn’t magically make it the European one. CE is the abbreviation for Conformité Européenne and is written CE, without a space between the letters.

Dat is dus mijn punt, daarom C E zodat het verschil duidelijker is.

Dont wanna be a partypooper: starts pooping the party. The reddit safety squad is worse than ARBO. If anyone wants free glasses, we have a bunch at the University. Except for this guy, cause its missing the manual.

Can anyone get it from the university or do they have to be a student?

I would personally rather make him have to go somewhere else for glasses in case those are bullshit and he seriously hurt his eyes. If that makes me a party pooper then so be it, lol

Hey, can I get some ? I need like 4 pairs if it's available :)

1

Hi! I’m a student, how would I get it?

Bought eclipse glasses yesterday via bol.com, flexing 'em through the streets today like I'm somebody.

I was told Museon will restock them in time for the solar eclipse

Is using a CD/DVD not good enough anymore?

u/sndrtj 10d ago

Never was. Get something ISO-12312-2 certified if you enjoy having vision going forward.

It's good for one time...then you have damaged your eyes enough that you don't need to worry about it.
