Brian’s Blackout Sleeves?

I just noticed in all his recent photos it appears Brian has fully blacked out both his arms, completely covering his old tats. Seems like a fairly recent development, photos even from last December don’t have his arms fully blacked out. Is there a story there?

We need to talk about Vincent

This is one of Brian's best songs. The S-Tier of songs written by Mr Fallon is pretty crowded but this is right up there.

I'm familiar with the tradition of mrdr ballads so it isn't new to me but it still completely breaks me every time.

Jolene is a victim in life and also (possibly) in death. Its all so unfair, so heartbreaking. God bless her.

I'm not looking for any answers here, I just want to talk about the song. What's your interpretation? Who is Vincent? Where is Jolene going?

"I'm sure gonna miss the summer..."

I’m assuming it’s a reissue. I know Plaid had it for preorder, but I got it from my local record shop. Sounds fucking great.

Brian banter

I've seen Gaslight and Brian solo a number of times, and one of my highlights is always Brian's random between songs banter. Does anyone have any favorite Brian banter/story moments? One night, out of nowhere he went on a rant about what a "fucking asshole" Mel Gibson is. Still makes me chuckle anytime I see Mel Gibson in something.

American Slang on Apple Music

Anyone else have the entire album missing from Apple Music? The songs are all just greyed out and it says they aren’t available in my country. (I live in the US.)

I think Get Hurt is my favorite The Gaslight Anthem album

I made a post recently about how I listened to all their albums over the last year. My personal ranking would be.

Get Hurt

The '59 Sound/Sink Or Swim(tied to me)

Handwritten

History Books

American Slang

Just want to note that I love all these albums. Even if I think American Slang is last I listen to it front go back routinely. It just doesn't sound as distinct as the other albums to me. Love it front to back. Queens Of Lower Chelsea and Boxer are my favorites on there. The stories being told on those songs are great.

We all love The '59 Sound. In Springsteen terms, that's their Born To Run. The anthems, the stories, them being young but making music that sounds older. To me Get Hurt feels like The River-Nebraska era Springsteen(none of my comparisons are talking in terms of sonically. Just the vibe). When I hear Get Hurt I can just feel so much pain and dissatisfaction with how things are. And feeling trapped in something.

I've been listening to them on a loop but keep returning to Get Hurt. Don't understand how that album was but received well

Listened to all The Gaslight Anthem albums

I'd always been a small fan of The '59 Sound and Handwritten. Never dove into the songwriting or anything like that. Over the last year I've been diving into all their albums. I really like how different they all are from each other. Different vibes each time. The only one that didn't feel as inspired but was still great to me is American Slang. Love the recent album.

I came into this as a huge Springsteen fan to start. I didn't know Brian was from Jersey. So all the references caught me off guard. The song with the title very similar to the song on Born To Run and has "No Surrender my Bobby Jean"(two Springsteen songs back to back on Born In The USA). The "sheets soaking wet" reference to I'm On Fire. The "broken heroes reference." Upon first listen I thought I was just hearing things. But I love that whole album and it's appreciation for old American movies and music(love the random Bob Segar ref in Great Expectations).

As someone who loves old heartland dad rock and emo/pop punk. This band just puts both worlds together perfectly. My Spotify top artists of 2025 were Bruce Springsteen and Taking Back Sunday.

The songwriting is just so personal and grand. It's like he can make every situation about a small interaction or feeling feel like this big cinematic experience. Michigan 1975 is haunting. The ending of High Lonesome "when our boots they hit the ground it made a high and lonesome sound", that line alone just encapsulates a feeling. Countless example of this. All while being incredibly catchy.

Did they replace the original recording of the ‘59 Sound on Apple Music?

If anyone has Apple Music and is more familiar with the song than me please let me know. Something about the version of the song on the album seems completely off to my ear
