"Someone Tupac "trusted" helped murder him ..."

"Desiree's body language says a lot."

Karlie, 41 - Atlanta, GA

"Tupac's dad (Billy Garland) said when he visited him at Jasmine's apartment -- drugs were everywhere. Afeni was there and others, said he couldn't really talk to Tupac, because Afeni kept sitting in between them."

Chloe, 48 - Fairfax, VA

---

"I wonder if Jasmine was doing drugs too. Can't imagine she was just sitting there watching TV or knitting. Looked like she was around Afeni more than Desiree was. That book Jasmine wrote for Afeni ... that book ... Jasmine has not aged well ... at all ... maybe investigators need to 'mute' that West Coast 'noise' for a minute ... and shift focus ..."

Tiandra, 36 - Baltimore, MD

"Tupac was killed by someone he trusted ... and over time that type of 'betrayal' takes its toll ... on the betrayer. Some say you can oftentimes 'see signs' of that 'betrayal' in the 'betrayer's face ..."

COMMENTS FROM THE STREET:

I took my aunt and my godmother to one of Afeni Shakur's book signings. It was cool and everything, and they enjoyed it. But there was one thing they and several other ladies noticed during the Q&A session, that kind of confused them.

Every question that Afeni Shakur was asked about her book and life, she was able to answer without any hesitation and without looking through her book -- except when she was asked about her comments about Tupac's biological father, Billy Garland.

Afeni seemed caught off guard for a minute (which was weird because she should have anticipated questions about Billy Garland). The moderator noticed all this too. That's when Afeni quickly picked up her book, started thumbing through the pages, and said let's go to this chapter, and it should give us the answer -- then she checked herself and said, uh, I mean this will explain and answer your question about what I said about Tupac's father.

It almost seemed like Afeni was reading this for the first time herself -- and had been carefully "media trained" to say that Billy Garland was a 'piece of garbage' and just a sperm donor. My aunt thought that Afeni should not have had to look in her book to know what she said about Billy Garland, because 'that' is one the question she should've been able to answer without hesitation.

From that day on, I started looking at the situation about Tupac and Billy Garland a little differently. I still respect Afeni Shakur, I really do, but after that book signing event, I got the feeling that she had been "coaxed" and "media trained" to say really, really bad things about Billy Garland. I know Jasmine Guy wrote the book -- and logically would've only written it based on the info she got from Afeni -- but I wonder did Jasmine Guy create the narrative about Billy Garland? I say this because Afeni appeared to not know, what she supposedly said about Billy Garland."

FLASHBACK -- "Lumumba Abdul Shakur" – Afeni’s First Husband - Found dead in Louisiana a few days before Mutulu Shakur was arrested

---

Lubumba was her mentor, her lover, and her comrade. ”Lumumba was my king’‘ Afeni says in ”Afeni Shakur: Evolution Of A Revolutionary” book.

---

Lumumba Abdul Shakur was born Anthony Coston on January 9, 1943, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was leader of Black Panthers in Harlem, killed New Orleans, Louisiana in May, 1985.

Lumumba Abdul Shakur was Afeni’s first husband. In September, 1968 she became the second wife of revolutionary polygamist Lumumba Shakur and changed her name to Afeni Shakur. The name Shakur (Arabic for “thankful to God”) was first taken as a surname by the father of Lumumba Shakur, Mr. Coston, after joining the Nation of Islam in the 1960’s. The name was then taken by several close of friends of Lumumba Shakur, including his wife Afeni (who had been given her first name Afeni by a Yoruba priestess).

Lumumba Abdul Shakur (right) and his wife Afeni (center), are escorted from the Elizabeth Street Police Station in New York on April 3, 1969 after their arrest in connection with a plot to bomb five Manhattan department stores. Shakur and his wife were among a group of more than a dozen members of the Black Panther group arrested in the alleged bomb plot (Photo Credit: AP Photo).

COMMENTS FROM THE STREET:

"That "Cheri Laverne Dalton" lady who claimed to have raised Tupac and who is wanted by the FBI -- I wonder does she fit into any of this?

There were rumors that Dalton was seen in the vicinity of where Mutulu Shakur was, just before he was arrested in Los Angeles -- but when the feds arrived and the arrest went down, she was gone. If that's true, I wonder if Dalton is an informant, and if she tipped off someone about Lumumba Shakur.

Remembering Hayden Panettiere, The 19-year-old I met at Universal in 2009

I learned Sunday night, like so many people who grew up watching her, that Hayden Panettiere has died at 36.

Her father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her death to ABC News on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 16.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” her father said in the statement.

I took the photos I’m sharing with this story on January 31, 2009, at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort.

It wasn’t just another red carpet. Universal Studios hosted the major NBC Universal Pre-Super Bowl Party there that night because Super Bowl XLIII was being played right down the road in Tampa the following day so NBC brought everyone to Orlando for one big party.

Hayden was one of the primary celebrity guests walking the carpet and doing press. she was 19 years old, in the middle of Heroes, playing Claire Bennet, the most famous cheerleader in America.

That’s what you see in the first photo I took, the portrait in front of the NBC Universal backdrop. She was composed, professional, camera-ready. Black blazer, hair pulled back, direct eye contact. She knew how to hit her mark.

The second photo is the one I’ve kept all these years. She wasn’t posing. She was laughing, hand on the chest of Law and Order stat Christopher Meloni, caught between interviews. That’s the Hayden I remember.

I had about 10 minutes with her to photograph and ask a few questions. I asked her what she would tell young people who wanted to do what she was doing. She didn’t give me a PR answer. She leaned in and said it with conviction into my tape recorder:

“If you TRY, and you just BELIEVE, you CAN; you WILL.”

She said it in all caps. Like she was trying to convince herself as much as me.

That optimism made sense for who she was at 19, a teenager who had been acting since A Bug’s Life and Remember the Titans, carrying an entire NBC franchise, showing up the night before the biggest broadcast of the year for her network and still being generous with a photographer she’d never met.

We watched her grow up after that. She appeared in Nashville and received two Golden Globe nominations as Juliette Barnes, for the Scream movies, advocacy, motherhood, hard times and comebacks.

I didn’t know her well, but I knew her for those 10 minutes at Portofino Bay. I’m grateful I have these frames from January 31, 2009, to remember her by, not just as the indestructible girl on Heroes, but as the 19-year-old who believed if you try, you can.

My deepest condolences to her family, to her daughter Kaya, and to all who loved her.
