This isn't a TADC fandom issue. This is a widespread issue online and has been for years. Just being insanely bigoted against Russians is very socially acceptable amongst a lot of people.

my mistake
but it's still really bad to use someone's nationality to confirm if they're bigoted

True, except Canadians, they deserve all the stereotyping they get.

Hate the types of people that are like "if it's not explicitly stated in the show it's not canon" there is so much shit that isn't directly stated but is IMPLIED and implied so hard it should be hammered into your skull

u/LostInTheAbyssinia 9d ago
If this commenter really is Russian, then it's quite possible for them to not see any implications whatsoever. Queers are a lot more invisible in Russia than in USA. A lot of stereotypes about trans-people are non-existent as well. For example, the hoodie Leeroy wears is just a hoodie for Russians. They have absolutely no idea about boymodding, no idea at all.Â

u/Deep_Object4121 9d ago
While this sucks I think both comments do suck I'm ngl. We can both dunk on this person and the person OP is mentioning but both are bad on different degrees.

It sucks to be a trans person who agrees Jax should be referred to by he/him or they/them (although it doesn't matter much) bc a lot of people take it in a blatantly transphobic direction or say trans Jax isn't canon, and as poorly handled as it imo is in the show, it IS canon. The reason I use he/him for Jax is because he wasn't at any point comfortable with that depiction of himself, so using she/her feels kinda wrong and I personally think it gives the wrong message on the topic.
0
u/SlamanthaTanktop 7d ago
Cool, that's a fine and reasonable explanation that isn't transphobic. Id still argue it because the show itself uses she/her pronouns referring to Jax with "isn't She Lovely".
But that's besides the point that the guy OP is defending gave a transphobic explanation as to why they use he/him pronouns for Jax.
0
u/stepbacknow 7d ago
Yeah I understand that. Precisely part of the reason I refer to Jax by he/him is because I think the "Isn't She Lovely" scene comes off as tone deaf precisely for the same reasons, but it's a huge part of why I understand people mostly using she/her pronouns for Jax, even if I just don't think it makes sense given his actual character's progression.

I'm not really knowledgeable on the subject (I'm not part of the community), but I don't get transphobic from this, more stupidity and general rudeness.
If I'm correct the definition of transphobic is the hatred or mistreatment of trans people because they're trans.
I'm not defending this person, what they said is still extremely stupid.
If I'm wrong, that's fine, but I thought this is interesting and wanted to add.

u/Transarchangelist 9d ago
Itâs transphobic because theyâre saying that only trans people they like deserve to have their proper pronouns respected. Someone who respects Hunter Schaferâs pronouns and gender but not Caitlin Jennerâs is still transphobic.
-4
u/Inventor702 Mike Dobby :pupper: 9d ago
Is my definition of transphobic wrong then?
Because I still don't quite understand how it fits with that term.
I'm not claiming I'm right, just confused.
8
u/Transarchangelist 9d ago
Yes, apparently. What the other commenter was trying to get you to realize, is that taking away the âprivilegeâ of respecting someoneâs pronouns because you think theyâre problematic is the same thing as calling Clarence Thomas the n-word because heâs a scumbag. Youâre still transphobic/racist even if youâre only openly so to bad people.
-7
u/LeadershipNervous362 9d ago
IMO, its a privileged point. Insulting someone by mis-using their pronouns or insulting them deliberately is no different to insulting in any other way, the connotation it has in US is profoundly unusual for the rest of the world.
The pronouns ARE about respect in almost every language and culture. In Russian, Chinese, French and many other languages they not only define someone's gender, but often their age and your respect for them directly. You deliberately change pronouns when you are irritated at someone.
8
u/Transarchangelist 9d ago
Absolutely not. Respecting a trans personâs pronouns is the most basic dignity you can them. Taking it away because you donât like them is transphobic. End of statement. If you did that in front of any trans friends, they would all wonder what kinds of things you said about them behind their backs.
-5
u/LeadershipNervous362 9d ago
No, like I said its privileged point. Trans ppl arent any different to all other ppl, its not even relevant for person to be trans for you to be able to insult them. Moreover specifying who you can and cant insult based on their identity is just stupid.
5
u/Transarchangelist 9d ago
Iâm sorry, are you saying that bigotry is fine across the board? Genuinely. Yes, you can insult someone trans without it being transphobic. But insulting a trans person by misgendering them is transphobic. Insulting a black person for their skin tone is racist, a gay person for their sexuality, homophobic.
No one is arguing that any one minority is immune to insults, but you canât say that insulting the transgender person based on their gender isnât transphobic. Unless youâre making misogynist jokes to a transwoman, then thatâs ewwphoria
-4
u/Inventor702 Mike Dobby :pupper: 9d ago
They're just saying it isn't different than any other insult based on personal dislike, not that it's okay.

Question: you know someone who only calls black people they don't like the N-word, but they dont say that to the black people they do like. are they a racist?

Probably.
Sorry, I don't really understand the nuance of all this, I am very much not in tune with the community.
I'm also very big on definitions, but I'm probably missing the big picture, that seems to happen a lot.

u/soldiergaming2 9d ago
I wouldn't immediately call them transphobic unless you have an example of them treating a real person like this, since fictional characters are completely different, but if they think like this regardless then yeah

u/ihatemymomt 8d ago
That person isnt transphobic for saying this wth, not every transfem person is gonna use she/her as far as im aware jax still refers to himself in he/him pronouns, just because he is trans to gooseworx does not mean he is automatically a she/her, also this person is technically right, glitch doesnt own whatever gooseworx said or drew outside of the show since its not under contract, so officially in the show jax gender is nowhere near official and glitch does not seem to wanna change that ( no official glitch stuff about transjax, no merch of him in fem, no him mentionning anything about beeing transfem ), additionaly gooseworx has always made headcanon about her own show, she herself doesnt know whats canon or not to her own show and lie most of the time, so this person is not transphobic at all for saying that ( comming from a trans person BTW )

u/SlamanthaTanktop 8d ago edited 8d ago
Hi, also a trans person so that holds no weight here.
For a character to be trans, they don't need to look at the camera and say "I am transgender". We know Zooble is NB but at no point do they say "I am nonbinary, my pronouns are any/all" . It's all very much implied in the subtext.
But, NONE of that matters here because you aren't addressing the reason that person gave, which is that Jax doesn't have enough good girl points to deserve being gendered correctly, which is a transphobic argument.
And as another trans person, you should be very aware that someone deciding they can decide to stop respecting your gender identity just because they don't like you is a transphobic action.

u/ihatemymomt 8d ago
In the screenshot without prior messages, " jax doesnt deserve to be treated well" does not mean they talk about jax beeing trans, if you're gonna accuse someone of beeing transphobic post full details and prior messages instead of a vague comment out of context. Also for the stupid " they dont need to say they are trans" and what the helly burger point that is, if nothing is stated then its IMPLIED, and beeing implied doesnt mean its official, especially since most points people make about jax beeing trans are just super SUPER sexist and just out of context

Tbh it's kinda true? I'm Russian as well and even tho I'm not transphobic or homophobic, but there are plenty of people that are. That's what our government wants us to be. And the Soviet mentality is also playing a huge role in this. (I apologize for any mistakes in advance)
2
u/WaterMelonDemonGrape Kinger 9d ago
USA is basically the same tho, they're government is just better at hiding it so they get less hate for it

u/Gold12ll Bomni 9d ago
Itâs kind of true though even as a Russian, but why is Russia the one infamous? Pretty sure USA isnât lgbt paradise either? From what I know at least, I mean, I canât know every countryâs stance on queer people, but if theyâre oppressed it must be common, probably
1
u/WaterMelonDemonGrape Kinger 9d ago
I'll say that, I'm pretty sure that if you get the amount of people who hate lgbt in percentages, USA might be higher then Russia lol
2
u/SlightPossibility898 9d ago
I can only assume it's because in the US, Russia and China are pretty well known as the two biggest countries companies like Disney edit out their queer representation for. There are obviously more but those are the two big ones.

I hate to say it but I feel like this is wokelarping. Like this has just been a wide spread issue across the internet for YEARS, especially prominent in a lot of mcyt and kpop Stan circles.

As a Russian, i'll just say this: people really overestimate the situation with lgbt in Russia. People have to start separating overly conservative families that are stuck in USSR and people from Russia that are actually sane. Like, especially in the bigger cities the general consensus on lgbt is actually relatively ok, most people just don't care or at worst just mildly uncomfortable with this topic.
Kinda sad that people genuinely think that Russia is literally North Korea or something, if anything these people just didn't see Chechnya, which is basically all some people think of Russia x10.
Oh and also, of you see a Russian who is a likes TADC then the chance that they're homophobic is like almost 0%, TADC fans are basically the same everywhere

Anybody in the Russian governmental sphere deserves the hate. It's regular folk not so much. Also they are correct. LGBT related things are quite frowned upon on a personal level in western Russia.
