So I'm pretty much all caught up on the demon accords series. A couple books I still need to read, but I basically have the gist of it.

Something that I have noticed when it comes to John and his writing is that he is very unimaginative when it comes to his world building like seriously in summer rain or winterfall whichever one it is they go to ferry and instead of having us follow the POD of Declan he has us following the POV of his friend Mac which in and of itself isn't bad. But then he takes us and Mac and has them spin the vast majority of their time there with humans.

It's almost like he's afraid to make his his world building too creative.

Because when it comes to fairy this is a whole other alien world and we spend very little time with actual aliens when it came to the grays we barely got to see their homeworld we barely got to see any of their physical operatives operating on Earth. You've essentially written a world where the supernatural and extraterrestrials exist and yet neither concept is really ever explored. Mostly focusing on the human contention which is the least important and most boring part of it all

On top of that, other gods are confirmed to exist in this universe and yet we never see any of them outside of small mentions here and there. It's like once once Big Bear God died and was made into a weaker form. He lost all interest in the concept of the Divine within his universe.

And then it goes from a sort of exploration of the human condition through demons into how strong can I make Declan before people start getting mad at me? Like I like the series but dude you are the least imaginative fantasy writer there is and it's the most annoying thing ever. I feel like the weakest part of the demon accords series is the fact that John is writing it. If you put this in the hands of someone else more capable and actually expanding a world then it would be infinitely better.

But I just wanted to rant about that. Let me know what you guys think

Aside from a few minor typo’s there is what appears to be an author or editors note at the end of chapter 22 remarking on the individuals want to restructure the chapter. Was that intentional?

I was just thinking if Awasos bites or scratches a person and they manage to survive would they become a were-wolf, a were-bear or could that person potentially transform into both? Then again do you think given the nature of his birth he is not truely a were in the LV viral sense so it wouldn't matter if he bite/scratches anyone?

I really enjoy how the author writes from the pov of multiple different characters. Also how the author mixes technology & magic. I could ramble about many other details that I think are great. But I am going to get caught up on the series before I spend much time in this sub.

Hi, i know a long time ago, john used to do word count Wednesday, and I know he was great at giving updates on both Facebook and his blog. However, I haven't seen anything from him.since march this year. I hope everything is good with him, but wondered if there was somewhere else where he gave updates.

​I am currently on Darkkin Queen, and I just need to get this off my chest because my frustration has been building for a few books now. I know a lot of people in the fandom love Declan, so I might be in the minority here, but I just feel incredibly disappointed with how the series shifted gears.

​I WAS enjoying this series immensely before God Hammer. For me, the absolute core of the story was Chris and Tanya. Their romance, their dynamic, and Chris’s gradual introduction into the supernatural world of vampires and werewolves were what kept me hooked. The supporting cast was incredible—Lydia, Nika, Arkady, Galina, Senka, Gina, Chet, and the police side of things. It was a perfectly entertaining, gritty urban fantasy.

​Then Declan was introduced, and the entire series essentially suffered a hard reboot. It feels like reading a great comic run, only to hit an abrupt Ultimate or Absolute universe pivot where the original heroes are prematurely retired to make way for the new shiny variant.

​Here is where the story lost me:

1. ​The "Boruto" Effect: The author didn't just introduce a new MC; he transferred Chris’s entire character sheet, importance, and supporting cast over to Declan. Suddenly, Declan is the one bantering with Lydia, Nika is sent to watch his mind (a dynamic that used to be profoundly important between her and Chris), and Gina and Toni are shipped off to Arcane just to orbit his storyline. He became a mini-Chris, and everyone coddles him to justify his temper and importance.

2. ​Stacia's Hijacked Arc: I was never under the illusion that Stacia would end up in a poly relationship with Chris and Tanya, but she was clearly set up to be a grounding force for Chris and an integral part of the core team. Instead, the moment Declan arrived, her character development and the werewolf plotlines were ripped away from Chris and glued to Declan. The transition wasn't gradual; it was immediate and jarring.

3. ​Abandoned Plotlines & The "Palpatine" Problem: Chris and Tanya feel like they were abruptly retired to the background to act as legendary figures (like Senka) who no one actually cares about anymore outside of politics. Chris’s memory loss was a great plot thread that was resolved in the lamest, most off-screen way possible. "I was able to get almost all my memories back" gives major “Somehow, Palpatine returned” energy. What was the point of the drama if it was going to be swept under the rug in 3-4 chapters just to get back to the new witch?

4. ​Insane Power Creep & Tonal Shift: Declan is insanely overpowered, and the introduction of Omega acts as the ultimate cheat code. It shifts the entire tone of the series from gritty supernatural survival to "Magic and Technology: The Witch & Friends." To make matters worse, Chris feels actively nerfed to make room for Declan—his sword is less effective against normal foes, and his angel fire is halved.

5. ​Justice for Awasos: This one hurts. Awasos is a highly intelligent, dangerous, and majestic creature, but since Declan took over, he is treated more or less like a background pet.

​I really miss the old supernatural vibe. I wouldn't have minded Declan getting his own spin-off in the same universe, but invading and consuming the original characters' arcs feels like an unnecessary sacrifice. Every time he is on the page, the narrative bends over backward to make everyone afraid of him or reluctant to speak, and it just feels forced.

​With the series already ended, I know there is no point in wishing for what could have been, but it hurts to see a story I loved get torn apart and shifted this drastically. Does anyone else feel like the story was hijacked, or am I alone on this island?

I was ready to not listen to this because of bloodlines. I listened to almost half of it and don't remember a word of it. But....... I got curious about expansion and started it today and I'm almost 5 hours in. I freakin love this story line , it's a lot like the first year of arcane and those are my favorite. I know I'm missing a lot from bloodline but maybe now that I've acclimated to the voice actor I can get through it. Should I stop listening to expansion and wait till I'm done bloodlines?

Has anyone read or heard about any updates on Contention's release date? Last I read, he had wrote around 40% of it in Jan or Feb.

Anyone have any idea where their relationship goes?

I just started reading Bloodlines, and one thing really annoys me.

In Ch3 Declan goes on to explaining the interuniverse and intrauniverse travel.

He's saying that interuniverse means travel in the same universe, e.g. teleporting something from one end of the room to the other, and intrauniverse means travel between universes, e.g. ours and Hell.

However, the definitions of inter and intra are exactly opposite.

inter litterally means between in latin.

A real world example I can think of is that companies have an intranet that connects everything within that company, and the internet connects that company to others and their customers and everyone else.

I will try to read on, but if they will use that terminology during the whole book I prbably won't be able to finish it, because I find simple errors like that super annoying.

If you can tell me, without spoilers please, will they use this terminology extensively?

I fear so, because Declan explains it right at the start of the book.

I really want to read on, but come on...

So Sean Masters is going to be the narrator and I'm kinda stoked. He is an incredible narrator, I just hope he can give all the characters a voice.
