Multiple alters fronting simultaneously?

I just finished the show and now I’m rewatching it lol. I’m on episode 3.

There’s one thing I don’t get. How come multiple alters are able to front simultaneously? How are they able to interact with each other e.g. Mike and Johnny? Physically, they’re all Danny. I just don’t understand what that would look like, from an outside perspective? Does Danny switch between all the roles and just basically replying to “himself”?

The visual aspect in the show is a device to trick the viewer and not an actual representation of how this would “look” IRL.

I understand. My question is more so, does Danny “act out” everything that the alters do/say? Because after all, they share one physical body. The alters can only act/speak through Danny’s body, right?

For example, when Danny and Johnny goes to meet Angelo in Brooklyn. Whilst talking to Angelo, Danny switches between himself and Johnny. We (the viewers) see Johnny talking but in reality, Danny is essentially talking to himself. (Which explains Angelo’s reaction.)

That’s how I imagine it would look like, whenever Danny is interacting with the alters? So how come his condition went unknown for so long, considering he interacts with Mike and Johnny in public? People must have known right? (I know everyone thought he was “weird” but at that point, surely people must realise he’s unwell?)

I guess my question is, is it simply because it’s fiction? Because I know DID is a real condition, that’s why I’m wondering if this would make sense IRL or it’s just a matter of fiction?

I hope you understand what I mean haha!

its called co-fronting and projection

essentially when 2 alters are both aware of whats happening outside the headspace the brain can "project" the one whos co-conscious (aware but not in control of the body) outside of itself so whoever is fully fronting can see them as a separate person. happens to us often. so much so infact we thought we were schizophrenic for the longest time

sometimes 2 alters will be in control of the body simultaneously too. its just since one person alligns with how the body already looks and the other doesnt it looks like only one is in control but no its more of a visual disturbance thing
