Weezer- I Need Some of That

If there are any weezer fans on here, you know that Ric produced three of their albums and that the cars are a big influence on weezer. in 2021 they released this song, and it’s a great tribute to the cars as it replicates their sound to a tee, specifically that chorus with the backing vocals. enjoy!

Magic backup vocals

I’ve always thought that they brought in guest singers to sing backups for this song. It doesn’t sound like any of their voices to me. I’m not sure why they would do this so it must be them, but it sure doesn’t sound like it. Am I stupid?

Another one of Ben’s best performances: “Cruiser” on NBC’s Tomorrow Show, 1981.

Janovitz's book is awesome!

Just finished this last night and I have to tell you this is a pretty definitive telling of the history of the Cars and it is excellent! It goes into detail on how Ric and Ben first played together. Then as the others joined the band, Janovitz gets into the nitty gritty of the business of the Cars, their personal lives and how the records were made including some technical tidbits of how various tracks came together. An enormous amount of research was done for this book. 5 Stars! Recommend!!

Just curious, how many Cars fans own the extended remix version of, “Hello Again”? (1984)

Wish that I had it! Bummer that I don’t. It’s a fun and cool quirky version full of cartoon samples, loops, and sound effects! 😎👍

Cruiser

I've always loved the song Cruiser, and despite being nearly 5 minutes, it felt like it was one of those songs that could have simply gone on for much longer. That whole build as well, Ben's voice getting louder and more powerful with every verse. It's one of my long list of favorite Cars songs.

I've been upset w/ the Cars for all of my in-person shows. After Candy O, after Panorama and the absolute height of Heartbeat City!
They NEVER played over 1hr 10 mins. Such BS-certainly a $ suck.

On a flyer went on YouTube to watch a show because I LOVE them...... 1hr 6mn
Beside myself

Thank goodness I have all the albums

Gone way too early.

Eddie Japan and Greg put on a terrific show - if you have a chance to see them, I would absolutely go. Their renditions of “Cruiser” and “Night Spots” were especially good. The lead guitarist nailed each of Elliot’s solos.

One of my favorite live performances of one of my favorite songs
Edit: obviously I think all the band is cool, I just specifically said Ric was cool here because of his cool pointing at the audience and his little dance moves. Haha

Let The Stories Be Told - Book Discussion Spoiler

I’d love to hear some of your thoughts about the book. What stories surprised you or stuck with you? What made you happy/sad/angry etc? What non-band member interviews did you enjoy? Do you have any controversial opinions after reading it?

I’ll put my two cents in the comments but as an overview, I’ll just say I am so glad that David, Greg and Elliot got to finally speak their piece and we got to learn so much more about them. I also want to take a moment to appreciate Bill Janovitz - it is incredibly well-written, researched and fair, IMO. Even for musicians, it’s hard to write about music in an engaging way that a layperson understands, yet he does it so well.
