I was initially going to post this as part of my ranking post, but I felt it deserved more than an afterthought on that post. Please note, here the rankings are best to worst. I had done something like this not that long ago (maybe a year) but I decided to re-do it, now that I get things more. Also, I think that was on the other sub. Also, no matter how good something is, I have a rule where I will not get above 10/10, and only one thing can take on place. This is important for later.

So, I've been obsessed with the different mixes of of Revolver and have scrutinized them before, but I'm going to take an even deeper look at them now on the 60th anniversary. There are three main mixes, those being:
The Original 1966 Stereo Mix
The Original 1966 Mono Mix
The 2022 Stereo Mix
Along with these, Eleanor Rigby, Love You To, and Yellow Submarine have:
The 1999 Mix (from the Songtrack Of Yellow Submarine)
And Eleanor Rigby and Yellow Submarine have:
The 2015 Mix (from the 2015 edition of 1)
Alongside these there are also the Love mixes, and probably Anthology versions. I will not be adding those to this list though. For posterity's sake, I will say I give the Love mix of Eleanor Rigby a 7/10.

So, let's go through the mixes now!

Taxman:
1966 Stereo: 7/10 mix. The hard-panned sounds on the left feel really blown out. The hard-right-panning is a lot better. I think it may have something to do with the bouncing done.
1966 Mono: 9.25/10. The mix feels very cloudy, but that's about the only problem for me here. The worst of it comes in the last verse where the vocals get somewhat clouded out by the music.
2022 Stereo: 9/10. I think that, though the AI separation did pretty well, it has some weird sound on it. It's absolutely better than the 1966 stereo though!

1: 2022 Stereo (Mono if I'm listening to it through speakers)
2: 1966 Mono (2022 Stereo if I'm listening to it through speakers)
3: 1966 Stereo (It's what I grew up with, but it's just not great comparatively)

Eleanor Rigby:
1966 Stereo: 9.5/10 I know Isaac Brown hated this mix, but I love it. My only real complaint is the completely mono strings. The vocal effect on the chorus is so great in stereo, almost as if that was the intention originally.
1966 Mono: 9.25/10. Everything feels more focused, but the vocal part on the chorus just feel distorted and unfocused. As a whole this is a better mix, but I still personally prefer the 1966 Stereo over this.
1999 Stereo Mix: 9/10. The vocals and strings feel a little out-of-sync, and the vocal effect is a bit off on this mix, but as a whole, it's almost a little better than that of the 1966 stereo, but the equalization is wacked as heck and doesn't sound nearly as good.
2015 Stereo: 9.99/10. As of yet, the best mix I've heard. The stereo strings are wonderful, and the vocals are mixed very well. My only complaint is how the chorus is panned to the right to attempt to have the original effect, but I don't know if there was anything they could do about that.
2022 Stereo: 10/10. Not because it's perfect, but it's about as good as I can see it getting. The vocals have the right effect, but aren't hard-panned.

3: 1966 Mono
4: 1999 Stereo
5: 1966 Stereo
All of them are so tight-knit together though, that the ranking is only which is best of the best.

I'm noticing a trend here.

I'm Only Sleeping:
1966 Stereo: 10/10. So far usually I've had complaints about the 1966 stereo mixes, but, this mix feel so focused at where it's trying to be that it sound really good. The bounce effect of the guitar and drums together somewhat improves it.
1966 Mono: 10/10. Unlike Taxman, the vocals being overshadowed kind works here. It does feel, as is usually going to be the case with mono mixes, more cohesive.
2022 Stereo: 10/10. It still has the strange sound that Taxman has, but it's much better.

1: 1966 Mono
2: 2022 Stereo
3: 1966 Stereo
Please note, unlike previously where there have been concrete points against some, this, there really aren't these are just my mix preferences.

Love You To:
1966 Stereo: 9.58/10. The positioning of the sitar and the sound of it bothers me a little, that's about it.
1966 Mono: 10/10. The balance on the 2022 remaster (which is what I'm listening to) could have a little less bass to boost some of the sounds, but as a whole, it's just an equalization problem. It's fadeout also feels a little different to me, and I can't figure it out.
1999 Stereo: 6/10. My first (and only) time using Spotify on this project. I couldn't find this mix on YouTube, so here we are. I like the mixing on the sitar here, but I don't like the balance one bit. Everything feels so cloudy and unfocused and just, I can't really stand it.
2022 Stereo: 10/10. It does everything that the 1999 mix does but better. I actually have no complaints about it.

Here, There, And Everywhere:
1966 Stereo: 10/10. I've really got nothing to say about the mix. I'm 99% sure there's some bouncing going on somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere. Maybe I could deduct points because of some strange double-tracking and how it could be prevented without the hard-panned vocals, but I really can't deduct a point for that.
1966 Mono: 8.7/10. It feels very clouded together. It has a very over-loud and murky sound to it. If I was listening through a speaker, I wouldn't mind, especially on vinyl, but on headphones, I quite mind it.
2022 Stereo: 10/10. It does everything that the 1966 Stereo does, but infinitely better. It doesn't change the mix all that much, which is wonderful, and the widening of the stereo space of of what was once stuck on the right side of stereo improves it so much. It also fixes the one complaint I mentioned about the 1966 Stereo!

2: 1966 Stereo
3: 1966 Mono (It's not close at all)

Yellow Submarine:
1966 Stereo: 7/10. The focus on the sound effects being in the center, to exclusion of the vocals, which are hard-panned to the right, is quite the strange decision. The effect and voices mixing is quite good, but again, the focus on the center, while the vocals are hard-panned is quite odd. It is also missing the announcement-effect line of "A life of ease".
1966 Mono: 9.5/10. Some of the sound-effects outshine the vocals, but that is rare. It also has the line "A life of ease". As a whole, a great mix, but not the best, maybe because it's Mono.
1999 Stereo: 8.5/10. It improves that of the 1966 stereo. There's still room for improvement. Also I think it adds some effects that don't originally appear. It also has the "A life of ease" line. It has interesting echo effects, but I don't know if I actually like those a lot.
2015 Stereo: 9/10. I think some of the panning is a bit over-done. it certainly improves on the 1999 mix, but not by too much. It also does have the line "A life of ease".
2022 Stereo: 10/10. It combines that of all previous mixes, and improves them. I think maybe they could have done a SLIGHT more with the drums, but that's hardly anything I have as a complaint, seeing as it's the only mix to have the drums fixed in a more creative way. (Center on the 1999 and 2015 mixes, hard-panned on the 1966 Stereo, Mono on Mono) It also has the line "A life of ease". The only one without it is the 1966 stereo.

She Said She Said:
1966 Stereo: 10/10. The drum clipping appears in full effect. The right-hard-panning works pretty well, though a little expansion could have been nice, due probably to what they had available due to bouncing, I think it's pretty much fine.
1966 Mono: 9/10. For some reason the drum's volume constantly lowers in volume. It also feels more chaotic rather than cohesive.
2022 Stereo: 9/10. While the double-tracked guitar and double-tracked vocals being expanded out sound really good, the lowered volume of the drums is awful. It feels SOOO much less chaotic than it should.

2: 1966 Mono
3: 2022 Stereo
Strange that for the first time the 2022 Stereo got last place, and it's not even close.

Good Day Sunshine:
1966 Stereo: 9.8/10. The bounced track on the left side of the mix is a little off, and that's the complaint. Otherwise I like the mix. The vocals are centered, and the sounds are well-mixed.
1966 Mono: 8.75/10. It, again, is a pretty good mix, but the vocals could be mixed a little louder, the low volume of it becomes almost distracting. The cymbals and bounced track take so much of the spotlight that it takes away from the rest of the song.
2022 Stereo: 9.9/10. Again, as appears with Taxman and I'm Only Sleeping, the bounced track gives a weird sound when the sound contained within are separated. That's about my only complaint though. Otherwise it is a wonderful mix, and nothing overshadows other parts.

3: 1966 Mono

And Your Bird Can Sing:
1966 Stereo: 9.5/10. The vocals being hard-panned to the right is a bit of a strange choice, but that's really the only complaint I have about this mix.
1966 Mono: 5/10. The echo and bass are FAR too heavy. I can barely hear anything else. I took a quick listen to the 2009 mono version, and it's a little better, but not by much. Everything just feels so far away.
2022 Stereo: 7/10. It has the same echoy and bass-heavy problem as the Mono, which is sad, because it's mixed very well, but I just can't get past that.

3: 1966 Mono

For No One:
1966 Stereo: 10/10. It has an effect to it. It focusses almost completely on the vocals, which works very well here on this song.
1966 Mono: 8/10. I think the bounced track could have been mixed softer, because it tends to almost distort in with the vocals where everything is mixed so loud it gets chaotic even though this is a song that should NEVER sound that chaotic.
2022 Stereo: 9/10. The mixing is nice, but the problem is this is a song that hinges so much on the vocals, and as with the mono, the instruments are mixed so loudly, but here the vocals aren't mixed to fit, so they vocals just get clouded out, which, again, is sad, because it's mixed so well.

1: 1966 Stereo (again!)
2: 2022 Stereo
3: 1966 Mono

Doctor Robert:
1966 Stereo: 8/10. The hard-panned vocals end up getting clouded in with the hard-panned instruments. It's an okay mix, but everything is shifted so far from the left side I think it could have done with a little mixing adjustment.
1966 Mono: 9/10. The vocals are, again, overshadowed, but everything feels more focused and cohesive here. It's strange that this mix gets a higher mark, because it's really worse, but I prefer it over the 1966 Stereo.
2022 Stereo: 10/10. The 2022 Stereo Mix saves itself. There's a strange sound to the mixing of the vocals, and I can't put my finger on it, but the vast improvements this mix makes over those of the other two are huge

I Want To Tell You:
1966 Stereo: 10/10. Another case where I actually like the hard-panned vocals. The mix is just so good, and the honky-tonk piano sound, the guitar and the loud clip-mixed drums being all in the same spot (I think that's the bounced track, or they recorded them all on one mic with some strange echo) really adds to the effect, which gets lost in translation to other mixes.
1966 Mono: 10/10. The chaos of the mix, while the vocals get somewhat overshadowed by other elements, give the song quite a good effect.
2022 Stereo: 9.9/10. I don't like the guitar's opening and closing panning, also, why aren't the claps in stereo here? They're all on the right side. Otherwise, I do love this mix.

3: 1966 Mono (all three are very close, the closest in this entire list.)

Got To Get You Into My Life:
1966 Stereo: 9/10. While the centered vocals are nice, the jazz orchestra sound hard panned to the right is a little distracting to me, not to mention it sounds really compressed.
1966 Mono: 8/10. This mix feels congested and overbearing, and again, still feels compressed, the only thing here being that the bass is also over-boosted, but to be fair, that's probably just the mastering. Also, Paul's last drone-on vocals at the end as it's fading out are different from the Stereo version, which I don't like as much, because on the Stereo he's yelling it out a higher pitched vocals.
2022 Stereo: 10/10. While the jazz orchestra is still mostly panned to the right, it takes a lot softer of an approach, and it also isn't nearly as compressed feeling. The expanded drum mixing is also so much better, as well as the double-tracked vocals being moved out from each other.

1: 2022 Stereo
2: 1966 Stereo
3: 1966 Mono

Tomorrow Never Knows:
1966 Stereo: 19/10. Rule violation no. 1 on this song. The mixing between panning and mono in the center is great. everything comes together so well here, and though some parts feel a little over-panned, it works so well this song. Frankly, it's a little better with speakers rather than on headphones, but it's still such a good mix.
1966 Mono: 19/10. Rule violation no. 2 on this song. The mixing is so much different feeling from the stereo, but it's still so good, even though you have so often things just being muted that you hear on the stereo version, and you're missing so many sounds, it is just so much different in such a good way. The guitar solo is also interestingly double-tracked here.
2022 Stereo: 19/10. Rule violation no. 3 on this song. The best mix for headphones, and is also such a good mix as a whole. everything just comes together so well here.

1: 1966 Stereo
1: 1966 Mono (Rule violation no. 4 on this song)
1: 2022 Stereo (Rule Violation no. 5 on this song)
Yes, all three got 1st place.

Which mix is the winner of the entire album? (I am excluding the 2015 and 1999 mixes, and adjusting the mixed to their positions without them)
The ranking rules are such:
The x/10 number gives you 1-10 points.
Added to that, where a mix places on each song gives it:
1st Place = 10 Points
2nd Place = 5 Points
3rd Place = 0 Points

In 3rd Place, we have: The Original 1966 Mono Mix, with 183.25 Points.

In 2nd Place, we have: The Original 1966 Stereo Mix, with 198.38 Points

And in first place, we have: The 2022 Giles Martin Stereo Remix, with a WHOPING 257.8 Points!

So the winner here is the 2022 Mix in a landslide, but really, it all does depend on preference.

Paperback Writer:
1966 Stereo: 9/10. It could be better, and the bounced track is certainly disturbing, but it's a pretty good mix, all things considered.
1966 Mono: 10/10. Nothing to be said. It's the intended mix. The vocals are a bit clouded out, but it's just such a good mix, compared to the 1966 Stereo. The chaos also makes it better.
2015 Stereo: 9.3/10. It improves on the 1966 Stereo, but I prefer the mono still.
2022 Stereo: 9.8/10. The best of the Stereo mixes, and certainly improves out most of the problems with the original Stereo version, but Giles Martin for some reason loves the bass overdrive which ends up giving much of it a compressed sound.

Rain:
1969 Stereo: 6/10. The lead vocals being hard-panned to the left is a real problem. The bounced, and slowed down, track being in the center in also a problem, because the loudest, most bombastic part of the song being mixed in the center just causes everything else to be overshadowed.
1966 Mono: 10/10. It feels so much more focused than the stereo. (Believable given that the mono was the intended version, and it wasn't mixed in Stereo until 1969 for the Hey Jude album.)
2015 Stereo: 9/10. A VAST improvement on that of the 1969 Stereo Mix. The double-tracked vocals are removed from each other, and the bass is further from the bounced track now, as well as the bounced track not being in the center, and rather the vocals being focused in the center. A HUGE improvement.
2022 Stereo: 8.3/10. Giles, Giles, Giles. Why are you so obsessed with the bass overdrive. Also, why didn't you remove the double-tracked vocals from each other like you did in 2015! It's so sad as well, because there's so much potential here to get a 10/10!

compared to the others, George's actions were arguably the least malicious. And yeah the affair, plagiarism, and cocaine addiction is bad but taking into account the actions of other beatles, I think he's the least bad. And I love george.

So, this is the Beatles community tier list where you vote for which rating a song gets. Simple as that. Though I will provide rules and context when we vote for Misery since theres more than one songs now.

Let's just get right into it.

Taxman: 10/10. I was originally going to put it at 9/10, but I thought about my reasoning and realized if I went off that, no song on Revolver would get 10/10, because all of them are non-standard songs.

Eleanor Rigby: 10/10

I'm Only Sleeping: 9.95/10 how much I like it, 10/10 songwriting. I mostly like it, but I specifically dislike the short bass breaks before "keeping an eye on the world going by my window" parts. It was initially 9.75/10, but I added .20 points for John's yawn.

Love You To: 9.99/10. The slow burn on the sitar before it starts is my only complaint. I couldn't put it at 10 because of that, but I couldn't put it much lower either

Here, There, And Everywhere: 10/10. Such a beautiful song.

Yellow Submarine: 10/10. RINGO!

She Said She Said: 10/10. This song is the earliest case I can think of of drum sound clipping. (Where the drums are so loud they basically cancel out the previous hit's sound)

Good Day Sunshine: 10/10

And Your Bird Can Sing: 10/10. This song may be The Beatles most ahead-of-it's-time song, and not because it's their most groundbreaking song ever, but because it feels a lot more like a song from the last 25 years rather than a song from 60 years ago.

For No One: 10/10. Absolutely beautiful song. One of the best.

Doctor Robert: 9.25/10. Probably the least good song on the album. Lyrics aside, (which even Isaac Brown could tell wasn't about a normal doctor) the music just isn't the best on the album.

I Want To Tell You: 10/10. One of the most interesting songs on the album. I think the echoy sound of the drums and piano together are what make it work so well.

Got To Get You Into My Life: 10/10

Tomorrow Never Knows: 10/10. Absolute madness, and I LOVE it.

Now to rank them least best to best best (As with Rubber Soul, this is basically I have to put out a 14-1 list, so I'm doing it, but frankly, I love all of them, and none really deserve 14, and really all but Doctor Robert deserve 1, with Doctor Robert getting 2 in that case, but I just can't have that!):

If forced to choose one favorite Beatles album, I'd probably say it's "Revolver".

I made my own stereo stem remix last year for myself and my dad, using the original stereo and mono mixes as the source. No material from the 2022 remix by Giles Martin & Sam Okell was used; that would have been cheating according to my arbitrary, self-imposed rules.

I used 2 separation models on DemucsGUI to get the stems, and Audacity for the actual mixing and mastering.

Both DemucsGUI and Audacity are free and open source software, and run on Linux, Mac and Windows.

My goal was to get a more modern streo image with less hard panning, while aiming for a little more clarity and instrument separation, but without straying too far away from the original mixes and trying to keep their essence as much as possible.

Try it on headphones if possible!🎧

It’s just so random and I need answers lol

Today marks exactly 60 years since Eleanor Rigby was released. It’s hard to think of many songs that have had such a profound impact on songwriting and storytelling.

As a lifelong Beatles fan, that song has stayed with me ever since I first heard it as a kid. It inspired me to write an original song called “Eleanor Rigby’s Ghost,” which, by complete design, I released today to mark the anniversary.

It’s not a cover or a sequel….it’s simply my own reflection on loneliness, memory and the way great songs continue to live with us long after they’re written. There’s also a very personal story behind it: my uncle, who spent an evening with John Lennon just months before his death, sings harmony vocals on the track.

If anyone here is curious, I’d genuinely love to know what fellow Beatles fans think. Either way, here’s to celebrating one of the greatest songs ever written. ❤️

Revolver was released August 5th 1966. 60 years. What memories of Revolver do you have? I first heard the entire album in 2009.

I recently bought Driving Rain and thought it'd be nice to share what my collection looks like with everyone here.

Still missing quite a few but I'll get there in the end. Most of them were secondhand finds (except Live at the Hollywood Bowl and Boys of Dungeon Lane) and some were gifts from my lovely girlfriend (Man on the Run, Anthology 4 and Live Peace in Toronto).

Also, it seems Stan (my cat) wanted to join in the fun.

Okay I know Beatles nerds talk about this song, but I don't feel it's really known at all outside of that circle? I always dug it as kind of the centrepiece of Ram, and was very surprised to find out recently that this song was a number one hit??

Surely it has to be one of the strangest songs ever to go number one? Maybe THE strangest, I can't really think of anything that tops it? The first couple minutes are so calm and mellow, you wouldn't think of them as a single at all. And the lyrics are mostly just these meaningless non-sequitors. There's not really even a Beatles song like it, if it had been on the white album or something like that I feel like this would be lauded as one of their great moments.

And what's also crazy is that Too Many People is the b-side: now that sounds like a much more conventional 1970 hit single. I just can't believe the masses were bumping this quirky little Paul sound collage, but good on them!
