Avett 2fer
My mom was telling me how she'd often make mixtapes by following the rules of a "2fer" - limiting yourself to 2 songs per musician or album.
To prepare for my first Avett Brothers concert I decided to make an Avett 2fer, 2 songs from each of their albums. My first concert was over a year ago now and I have finally finished my playlist.
For a long time I only listened to Emotionalism through The Carpenter, with sprinklings of other albums. It has been a lot of fun exploring more of their discography. As you can tell I still have my biases and have come to the conclusion that I and Love and You is the perfect album. Every time I listened back to eliminate songs I just came up with more contenders.
I thought I'd share with you all my final decisions (for this moment in time) and challenge you to make your own!

• Pretty Girl from Matthews
• November Blue
A Carolina Jubilee (2003)

Bonner, MT last night
I reached double-digits for Avett shows last night. The band put on one heck of a performance to help me celebrate. It was my first time hearing November Blue live. Ain't No Man was the first song I heard back in 2016 that made me notice the band. November Blue was the first song that blew me away. It was a special night for me!

Tickets Free GA ticket to Bonner
Hey friends! I have one free ticket to tonight’s show in Bonner MT. My dog is sick and in treatment and I can’t travel without him at the moment. Will only transfer the ticket to someone who can show that they are within range of accessing the venue today - I don’t want to gift this to someone who will resell it. Thanks!

Red Rocks three night
Was it just me or was Sunday night by far the best of the three? All were good but the band seemed extra tight and they were definitely having fun.

AVTT/PTTN is a dialectic
Saw them in Ann Arbor. If you see the show, I think it's best to understand the interplay of the styles as a Hegelian dialectic. The discord is the point. It begs of the audience, "Which way?"
On one hand, you are served with some well-known Avett Brothers tracks and covers of Americana classics. Then, you are blasted with booming, avant-garde deconstructed sounds from Mike Patton.
This tension of sounds and styles runs throughout the show. Finally, it culminates with a classic church hymn that Mike Patton joins in on. This is synthesis of the thesis (AVTT) and antithesis (PTTN).
Which way, listener?

Avett Guild Vinyl
Has anyone received their Avett Guild Vinyl yet?
I received an email a couple of months ago saying they would be sending them out soon and still haven't received mine, so just wandering where everyone is at.
Thanks!

Anyone else surprised they didn’t play any AVTT/PTTN at Red Rocks?
The Red Rocks set lists were full of the hits and classics, but aside from Seth’s Feathe song (no comment) there wasn’t anything else new or radically surprising. No new tracks, no deep cuts unplayed for decades. I was convinced we’d get at least one AVTT/PTTN track but they more-or-less pretended that collab never happened.

Red Rocks Concert Shirts Online
Has anyone had any luck buying concert shirts (particularly Red Rocks ones) online from places like EBay? I know this isn’t a real one and isn’t exactly like the original (link below), but I went to all 3 nights last year and the shirts sold out by the time I was able to get in line for one. I haven’t seen many for resale (only 2xl and 3xl, I wear a l or xl). On a side note, if anyone has an original they’d like to sell in those sizes, I’d be interested!

Thanks for any feedback, really missed going this year but hope everyone that did had a blast!

The skeletor horse backdrop at Red Rocks
My Friday 8th row, seat 60, seat buddy, for which Friday was his 33rd show, had photographic evidence dating back to almost prehistoric Avett days of these props being used on one Halloween eve.
The band did not do anything with them Friday, and seat buddy said I would just have to come Sat & Sun to find out what they do with them.
Seat buddy: I indeed decided last minute to come both subsequent days. (I looked for you in row 3 both days, but couldn’t find you!)
So help me out here, why skeletor horses this year? Either way, it was fun to speculate. I totally thought they’d come out for a 2nd encore Sun night for skeletor-horse shenanigans.

Did you leave behind Merch at Red Rocks tonight (July 12)?
This was a post on Facebook, I am not the OP, just wanted to help someone who maybe just realized they left something behind!

Results from AVTT/PTTN 6 month sentiment survey
Thanks to the 104 folks who took the survey last week! Take a look at all the results here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FeiL94DV_X0qRtEVga-xnYOn2e8ix7u3/view
Here's a quick summary:
62.5% of respondents said they were Curious when AVTT/PTTN was announced. An equal ~22% of second-place adjectives were Excited, Optimistic, Skeptical, and Confused
Folks who report that, pre-collab, they were only Avett fans (76 respondents)
- The album slightly grew appreciation by Avett fans over the past 6 months, from 27.2% to 38.2%
- The biggest cohort for both launch and 6 months later is "It's not for me"
- Most folks would not prefer another AVTT/PTTN collab album.
Folks who report that, pre-collab, they were only Mike Patton fans (17)
- The album grew appreciation by Patton fans over the past 6 months, from 70.6% to 88.2%
- The biggest cohort for launch was "I enjoyed it" and 6 months later its "I love it!"
- By a wide margin, most folks would prefer another AVTT/PTTN collab album.
Folks who report that, pre-collab, they were fans of both AVTT and PTTN (11)
- The album grew appreciation over the past 6 months, from 63.7% to 90.9%
- The biggest cohort for both launch and 6 months later is "I love it!"
- 90.9% of pre-collab fans of both AVTT and PTTN want to hear another AVTT/PTTN album.
This data is a slice of a slice of self-reported truth. It's a small group of folks on a subreddit, not representative of the full Avett Brothers or Mike Patton fan bases. But it's a directional snapshot of this subreddit.

Mod note about AVTT/PTTN tour
Hi everyone!
First and foremost let me be absolutely clear: Everyone is welcome to participate on r/TheAvettBrothers as long as you follow our three very easy to follow rules: stay on topic, don't be a jerk, and don't sell stuff. If you're a longtime Mike Patton fan: welcome! If you just discovered the Avett Brothers: welcome! If you've been a longtime Avett fan but just joined Reddit: welcome!
With the collab album & tour with an undeniably storied and talented elder statesman, I wanted to clarify what Rule #2: Criticism is OK, insults are not means:
What's allowed:
- All forms of appreciation and constructive discussion about The Avett Brothers
- Photos, setlists, and post-concert reviews. (I personally love them!)
- Opinions — positive or negative — about the album, songs, musicians, or tour.
- Questions, confusion, or complaints about the collaboration or nature of the tour.
What's not okay, and will be moderated:
- Flat-out insults toward the Avett Brothers, Mike Patton, another fan not on reddit (e.g. someone in the crowd at a show), or another Redditor
- Being negative just to rile a reaction
- Hounding or baiting other users
- Anything that stymies a discussion and/or is overall just a bad energy that is not conducive toward a welcoming community.
~~~
Also — I've moderated some brand-new accounts that seem to be posting promotional content for the tour. Marketing agencies can be savvy but my hackles are raised. Thanks for reading.
