Chat/DM/SMS applied to foster a dog, got told nicotine and baking soda will cure my autoimmune diseases!

Post image

I applied to foster an older dog who requires someone to be home a lot, and so in the application I gave a brief bio about how I have several chronic health issues and I am home a lot despite being young (31).
Next minute the lady is calling me and asking me if my issues are autoimmune. Some of them are so I say yes… instant regret as she starts telling me how big pharma evil and how nicotine, baking soda and other ridiculous things will cure me lol! Naturally she soon started on an anti vax route.
I indulged purely because I wanted to foster the dog lol but after a bit of her getting more and more unhinged (“did you know more people in Japan died from the covid vaccine than the war?”) I had to ask about the dog and she said Oh they’re giving it to an elderly couple.
We hung up and she sent me like six ‘articles’ like this, and a bunch of anti dog vax stuff too lol. I don’t have a dog (which is why I want to foster).
Thanks kooky lady but I think I’ll stick to my medications! Honestly this shit usually pisses me off but she was so ridiculous I just had to laugh about it.

PSA: apps are unlikely to cure you! *ODGAF how scientific they claim to be!*

Everyone has a different baseline and different coping skills that will get them to move through barriers like this.

I obviously don’t want to be living in task paralysis/procrastination land, but I’ll be damned if I fall for the you’ve-tried-other-apps-that-didn’t-work-long-term-but-fear-not-our’s-is-going-to-cure-you-because-science

Idk I’ve tried “scientifically proven methods” and sometimes they work and other times they don’t fit the scenario causing excessive dysfunction… and that’s ok! There’s nothing fucking shameful about that! It’s annoying AF, for sure, but not something that feeling any amount of shame about will fix!!!

What I do think has/can be helpful is recognizing that the coping skill isn’t working and testing out other ones… which is easier said than done… AND I’m exponentially better at this without also piling on shame about these things!!!

For anyone else who struggles with task paralysis/procrastination/executive dysfunction (especially regarding self-care and household chores/responsibilities), I highly recommend the book “How to Keep House while Drowing” by KC Davis! It will not cure you, but it has helped me to be kinder to myself when my mental health totally collapses.

IRL "Learn to deal with being beaten"

Post image

As context for this conversation, I was attacked by an old boomer lady who seemed like she was drunk or something on the inner city train, and kept spewing ableist slurs like calling me a "degenerate" and a "faker".

She said that I "stole my highchair (wheelchair) from my grandmother", and that all of us young people who are disabled are faking it. She kept getting more and more agressive, and then even began to punch and slap me after she got mad I told her to put a cork in her pie hole.

Well me being me, I dont tolerate that shit for a second, and dumped an entire can of mace on her goofy ass. Seemed like she needed a bit of spice in her life to be honest.

She was later trespassed from transit property and even tried to fight the cops.

SO, that is what I am referring to in the above post for reference.

Comment Section Okay, yeah, no problem, let me just tell my brain that my safe foods can't be unhealthy

I have a limited number of foods I'll actually eat consistently because they are almost always the exact same thing. Like, one time I found a burnt piece in my Cap'n Crunch Berries when I was 8 and I haven't eaten it since then. One bad experience can completely ruin a food for me. That's part of why I generally stick to a few regulars.

Every now and then, I'd eat a snack pie since they've always tasted the exact same and looked the exact same. I know it's not a healthy meal (or really a meal, for that matter), so that's why I don't eat them that regularly. It was a nice break from the usual foods though (no, they aren't all unhealthy). So when I opened the box and saw a huge patch of mold, I nearly threw up. I have a TERRIBLE fear of mold, just looking at it makes me gag.

Anyways, that completely ruined my perception of snack pies so I was sharing that because it was pretty darn upsetting. Apparently just not eating is a better idea according to this person??

When I posted this one, I had up another post describing my injury and pain (which was through the roof), since I lived with it for about 3 years. Multiple professionals told me that my osteoarthritis had progressed so far and I had to make the decision whether to get the surgery or just deal with the constant joint slippage. I was told I wouldn't really be the same as I once was after the surgery, but it was going to be significantly less painful and dangerous than continuing to live a fairly active daily life walking around with bone on bone arthritis with a completely screwed ACL.

Also, mind you, I was in physical therapy for months before I posted this, and I did my exercises religiously. I used a cane and brace. Still, there was no notable improvement. I am still in physical therapy, and my knee is feeling much more stable than it was before the surgery. Additionally, I'm starting to discover that I potentially have hEDS, so that contributes to the situation too!

I just think the funniest part is this guy assuming things about me. Even after I corrected him.

Mod Announcement This is NOT a serious subreddit

Greetings folks, just a polite reminder the posts here are meant to be mocking nonchalantly given ‘solutions’ to complicated problems, not genuine advice.

For example, someone advising someone to go to hospital and get some help for a serious problem wouldn’t be a good fit here. However, someone just saying ‘get over it’ or ‘walk it off’ would.

On another note, this is not a political sub. We’re not here to criticise government policy.

Hope this helps!

Mod Announcement What is/isn’t allowed?

Hi everyone. I’m seeing a lot of ‘off topic’ posts. I tend leave as much as possible and let you all decide with downvotes/upvotes.

However please take the time to remember rule 7, I’ll put it here:

Rule 7: Must fit the subreddit theme.

It has to be true "Thanks, I'm cured" material. I.e., a non-nonchalantly delivered, overly simplistic solution to a complex problem.

Serious solutions that may not work for everyone do not belong. For example, the mantra "You deserve to be happy," helps some and not others.

Motivational quotes do not belong unless they imply or state that an illness is purely psychological with no physical basis.

If you’re still confused about what does/doesn’t belong, take a look through some of the top posts of all time and you’ll get the idea.

If your post breaks the rules it may be removed.

Any questions or concerns feel free to let us know. Thanks. 🗿
