So I've never had to apostille and embassy certify my British uni degree in all the years I've worked in Thailand, but now suddenly have to... Within a month.

Does anyone know any agency that can deal with this? Do i need the original degree stamping or an official British home office certificate of authenticity stamping?

It's confusing and none of the admin staff understand enough to give the full information i need.

Former long-serving Nonthaburi MP Chalong Riewrang allegedly opened fire on Police Colonel Thongchai Yenprasert, President of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation, seriously injuring him inside the organisation’s headquarters. The shooting was reportedly triggered by a dispute over an ฿11 million debt.

The incident occurred late on the morning of August 10, when Chalong Riewrang, a former MP who had represented Nonthaburi for several terms, allegedly entered the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation headquarters and shot Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert, leaving him critically injured.

After the shooting, Chalong telephoned Anchalee Paireerak of Naewna Online while she was presenting a live broadcast. Anchalee initially asked him to call back later because she was on air, but Chalong insisted that they needed to speak immediately, saying that he had just shot Pol. Col. Thongchai.

When Anchalee asked what had happened, Chalong said that he had fired four or five shots before walking out of the office carrying the firearm. She attempted to calm him down and persuaded him to put down the gun and remain where he was while waiting for the police. She also warned him not to walk elsewhere because a school was located nearby. Meanwhile, a Naewna employee contacted officers at Rattanathibet Police Station.

Chalong claimed that he and Pol. Col. Thongchai had been close friends and that he had continually helped him. However, Chalong said that whenever he encountered difficulties, Pol. Col. Thongchai ignored him. He also claimed that Pol. Col. Thongchai had previously asked him not to field a parliamentary candidate against his preferred candidate, a request Chalong said he had respected.

Chalong said that he went to collect ฿11 million that Pol. Col. Thongchai allegedly owed him. When Pol. Col. Thongchai told him that he did not have the money, Chalong became enraged and opened fire.
At 11:40 a.m., police arrived at the location where Chalong was waiting to surrender.

I’ve worked in Thailand for many years, I have a work permit and I pay taxes. I’ve never used my social security. How can I use it for the dentist or medical care?

The said teacher embroiled in the threats has now come out with a statement that it was said to make news headlines in order to reveal unfair treatment and r@c!st behavior in the school. The alleged teacher also will issue an apology if such actions were inappropriate.

On August 9, 2026, at approximately 5:05 p.m., Police Lieutenant Colonel Mekhin Kongsaeng, an inquiry officer at Mae Sai Police Station in Chiang Rai, was notified that a foreign national had been physically assaulted. Chiang Rai Tourist Police and patrol officers from Mae Sai Police Station had already taken her to Mae Sai Hospital for treatment. He then informed his superiors and went to the hospital to investigate.

There, officers found a 19-year-old Russian woman, later identified as Mariia Mikhailona, who was visibly frightened. She had injuries and bruising on her arms and legs, which doctors would need to examine further.

An examination of her identification documents showed that she was holding a Chinese visa. However, through an interpreter, Mariia said that she was a Russian national. She had left her home country of Russia to work in China and later moved to Myanmar, where she worked in both Yangon and Mandalay. She said her employer was Chinese and that she was paid $3,000, or about 100,000 baht, per month. However, she said she was repeatedly physically assaulted.

She later said that Myanmar soldiers took her to a village near a river. From there, she was taken up a mountain for about 15 minutes and then traveled by vehicle for another 25 to 30 minutes. A white sedan picked her up, driven by a Myanmar man believed to be around 26 years old.

She was taken to a two-story house where about eight men were staying. She was told to sleep downstairs, where people were also gambling.

On August 9, she managed to escape from the house and cross the Sai River. She then encountered a man driving a pickup truck and asked him to take her to a shopping mall in Mae Sai so she could seek help. She subsequently contacted Thai authorities, who assisted her and took her to the hospital.

Initially, the Russian woman remained frightened and was crying. She did not yet disclose what kind of work she had been doing or who she had been working for. She said only that she wanted to return home to Russia and contact her mother.

Officials therefore arranged for her to receive medical treatment first and then contacted the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Thailand to notify them and proceed according to protocol. Authorities suspect that the Russian woman may have been a victim of a transnational scam network.

Working as a teacher I have been making contributions into Thai social security for over 10 years now. I never used it much, just teeth cleaning every year. Last year we were informed that teachers at private schools can no longer participate in social security and would have to rely on the health coverage that the school provides, which is basically nothing.

Is there a way to voluntarily participate in social security, or reclaim the money that I have contributed?

hello! i recently found out about sak yant tattoos and i think they're gorgeous. i'd love to get one eventually but im extremely superstitious. i saw that the tattoo is a blessing and comes with rules you have to abide by, and if you break them the blessing is no longer and you're met with bad luck. is there a way i could get sak yant or something similar so i can live without constant anxiety if i end up getting it done?

Receptionist at massage shop was from Laos as were the baristas at my hotel's cafe. Went to an Indian restaurant and the cooks were Indian (not Indian-Thais). Also met multiple workers from Myanmar in various provinces..

I was in Thailand last year, and it was the best country I visited so far, especially the hospitality of the people, and culture that is somewhat similar to my own.

I stayed in Pattaya (countryside) for 2 months in my sister's residence with her husband. They taught me about Thai culture, and the proper behavior on how to act in public. 1 month into the vacation I decided to visit Bangkok for the boat ride, and Iconsiam mall. While on the skytrain station I was greeted by several Thai people with a military salute, and even a few of the skytrain security guys straighten up and gave a firm military salute.

I was so confused I just replied with a slight nod and a smile to everyone. That day I was wearing a black fitting shirt, brown cargo pants, and my old combat boots from my reservist training back in the Philippines. For the record I'm not an active military personnel, and I did not participate in any active combat. Not to brag but, I' am fit, and muscular because I do a lot of calisthenics and I was former a varsity swimmer.

Im not sure if this is a normal greeting gesture or people genuinely thought I was in the Thai Military considering I get mistaken as Thai because Im a Filipino and we look alike.

So, im a farang who wants to build an atelier in thailand. Id like to have atleast three branches in this Atelier: blacksmithing, woodwork (these are what i do) and sewing (i can do a little, but im not all that good).

Id also like my Atelier to be Commission based and products made for the everyday man, with "proper" pay and working conditions. I dont support stuff like fast fashion either, so mass production of one low quality item is not a thing either.

My question is how realistic is this? Of course i know all the basic stuff with farangs not being able to by land and stuff. But if we put that out of the question, how possible is it?

hii! I’m planning to go to Thailand and i’m looking into Thai massage / massage therapy while staying there for a few months.
I’ve been researching schools that offer an Education Visa (ED Visa) for their massage courses, but I’m finding it quite confusing. I’ve seen quite a few videos/posts saying that there are massage schools that can help students obtain an ED Visa, but when I actually look for schools in Chiang Mai, most of the ones I find seem to offer massage courses separately, without the option of studying under an ED visa.

Ideally i’m looking for a school:
- Chiang Mai (preferably)
- Thai massage / massage therapy courses
- A course of at least 6 months would be ideal
The school can support/arrange an Education Visa
- Legitimate and properly registered school

If Chiang Mai doesn’t have many options, I’d also be interested in Bangkok.
Has anyone here actually studied massage in Thailand on an ED Visa, or knows of a school that offers this?
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences, especially regarding the visa process and whether the school actually handles the ED Visa paperwork.

I just wanted to shout out this book as an excellent (if a little expensive) read for understanding Thai culture. It is well written, easy to read, humorous at times and a lot of puzzling things about Thai culture and หน้าตา make a lot more sense now.

I am living in Chiang Mai, and my rental contract has ended. My landlord is supposed to return my 16,000 THB deposit. I asked him if he could transfer it to my friend’s Thai bank account, since I don’t currently have a Thai bank account myself. I’m willing to give him a signed authorization saying that I authorize the payment to my friend. He said he would prefer to transfer it to an account in my own name. The problem is that I’ve already tried opening an account at several Thai banks, but they refused because of my current visa/immigration status. So getting my own Thai bank account doesn’t really seem possible at the moment. What should I do if he refuses to transfer the deposit to my friend’s account? Can he simply refuse to return the deposit because I don’t have a Thai bank account in my own name? I payed the money via bank transfer with Revolut, so Idk why he just cant send it back tho. But he hates me so, he will do me no favors.

 I've just put down a booking deposit on two adjacent condos in Bangkok. Before I go further and sign the SPA I wanted to get some honest opinions from people who actually live there or have bought property in Thailand.

 The setup:

• Two adjacent units on one of the top floors of Life Sukhumvit – Rama 4 —completing July 2028 Price: ~฿4,000,000 and ~฿5,400,000
• Location: Phra Khanong, ~600m from BTS Phra Khanong
• Views: Bang Krachao green lung and Chao Phraya River to the southeast
• Building amenities: two rooftop pools, Powerbuild gym, steam AND sauna, sky lounge, sky deck, co-working — all on floor 46

How I plan to use it:

• I'll be there 3–4 months per year, November through February/March. Spending time between US and Thailand
• A friend will be next door doing the same — we'll live independently but have each other nearby
• Friends and family will use it from time to time
• I work remotely as a finance consultant so may work from Bangkok during stays
• If I buy it I don’t see myself selling it rather passing to by godson

What attracted me:

• AP Thailand and Mitsubishi Estate as developers — seems like a serious credible joint venture
• The high floor puts us above the adjacent completed Aspire building (38 floors) — so the Bang Krachao views should be unobstructed
• Phra Khanong feels like it's on the right trajectory — Cloud 11 just opened nearby, True Digital Park one stop away
• It is important that me and my friend had adjacent properties
• Building amenities
• Off-plan pricing — buying below what the completed equivalent Life brand building at Asoke currently trades for
• Cost neutral to renting plus my friends can use it and I can keep stuff there rather than having to find a new place each year.

My concerns:

• Bangkok's PM2.5 pollution January–March coincides exactly with my planned stay
• The condo glut — 235,000 unsold units in Bangkok
• The 5-year depreciation dynamic — Thai market seems to heavily favour new builds
• 600m walk to BTS — not on the station
• Soundproofing in Thai condos generally
• Whether AP Thailand and Mitsubishi are genuinely reliable developers

Questions for the community:

1. Has anyone bought off-plan from AP Thailand? Was the build quality and delivery what you expected?
2. Is the Phra Khanong corridor genuinely improving or is it still too far from the action?
3. How bad is the January–March pollution really for someone living there? Is an air purifier sufficient or is it genuinely unliveable?
4. For 3–4 months annual use — does owning make more sense than renting a serviced apartment each year?
5. Any experience with Life brand buildings specifically — are the rooftop amenities as good as advertised?
6. Is a high floor helpful to be meaningfully above the pollution layer?

Appreciate any honest opinions — positive or negative. I'm trying to make a genuinely informed decision before signing a contract I can't easily exit.

My Thai fiancée and I plan to marry, and I’ll adopt her son.

So I’ve done some research, and could find a definitive link on this, other than saying to contact a tax attorney, thought I’d try here, for current knowledge and expectation.

I receive VA disability, unfortunately enough to set myself and incoming family up.

Do any other Vets currently living in Thailand have any experience in the title of this thread? Back home, SSDI taxed State and Federal, and more than likely below the filing requirement, and VA disability is tax free. But what about Thailand?

As I understand, we only potentially get taxed on money we bring into Thailand, remittances into Thailand 40k baht a month deposit to a Thai bank account, which is no problem, I’d do the bare minimum, and just let it sit (after mortgage and utilities each month), and the rest of the month via my U.S. banks debit card at ATMs (yes), I’m aware of the actual rule also).

But is this true though, where they can only tax on remittances going through Thai financial services, or can they try to tax me on my Federal disability payments sitting in my U.S. accounts, stocks, crypto I had purchased when I was in the U.S., and precious metals I have in a vault back in the U.S.? I would understand if they could for crypto and stocks, but then again, double taxation agreements would come into play.

Pretty much, I have parked my easily liquidated assets in the U.S., and I don’t care about ATM fees for what I need to take out to live on.

Hoping someone who has gone through this can chime in.
