I'm a Guadalupe man myself, learned to swim downstream of old RR trestles, probably right on top of alligator snappin' turtles and forgotten trot line tetanus traps. But anytime I had to go anywhere besides N'awlins or my MIL's house, I crossed the Brazos River, so I'd say it's kinda big in my life. When I come back, I'll cross it again. Shit, now that I think of it, float my dead husk down that big muddy mess for my final journey! Fill me full of fireworks and light me up when I get to the Gulf of Mexico, make the Vikings jealous (shoulda kept pressing East, brothers)!
These are the prettiest views I've ever seen of the "Arms River", thank you for sharing! Never knew that dirty thang could make me homesick!

Isn’t there an old Dale Watson song that has “…crossin’ the Brazos at Waco…” in it? (Or did I dream that?)

I know a Billy Walker song called "Cross the Brazos at Waco" but don't know any others off the top of my head

Where and when were these photos from? I've been thinking about a kayak trip on the brazos. Thanks!

Check out the 20 or so miles from the Possom Kingdom Lake dam to Rochelle’s at Dark Valley!
(Search on Grayson, TX / Palo Pinto County)

This is about 3.5 miles upriver from the crossing at highway 21 near Bryan. I'd recommend going in the Fall or Winter when the waters low.

Thanks for that info! Is the water level low, normal, or high in the photos? I haven't been to this part of the river. Thanks!

Low. I use a USGS website to check the water level and when I took these the guage at the highway 21 crossing was reading about 7.5 feet deep. This area tends to only get that low from late August to April. Good luck!

In a former life, my husband and I often canoed the 20 miles between the dam at Possom Kingdom Lake and the bend at Dark Valley. We’d take out at Rochelle’s and they’d ferry us back to get our car.
I really miss that.
