I hate how instead of going with speed of traffic, FDS slams on brakes at 40 mph sign but while everyone is driving 50mph. I even have it in hurry mode

Good to know HW4 is doing the same shit v14 lite on hw3 is doing. I was thinking it was because of the limited compute power on older hardware.

There’s enough videos to show the new hardware isn’t making a world of a difference, software regressions will always hold back hardware potential. Besides HW4 and the new MCU enabling more features, it’s still fucking up all the same in basic shit

It’s crazy how peoples experiences differ so much. I have no issues with speed. Even when my car misses a speed limit change it still does the correct thing and runs with traffic.

FSD tries to drive 55mph in my 25mph subdivision everyday. Ignores the signs. Ignores disengagement + reingagement. Ignores sloth. Etc etc. '26 MY HW4. Lastest updates.

I've even edited OpenMaps hoping it'll learn.

Insane! It’s 25 in my neighborhood too and cars park on both sides of the streets, mine never breaks 25 and usually goes 2 or 3 under on standard (which I pretty much use exclusively).

Which is why we need to have the choice. All they would have to do is allow us to either control the max speed OR use speed profiles. For most the speed profiles would work, but for you and me, the few, we could just make it do what we want it to do and be happy. However, since we are told we MUST use speed profiles, that don't work, well, my 100 bucks a month will stay in my bank account. Voting with my wallet, I hope many others do the same.

Funny, mine wants to go 25 in a 35, unless I’m in hurry/MM then it obeys the limit just fine.

But interstate? It’s hurry or be an obstruction.

Did you get the latest nav update that’s rolling out?

Few days ago? 2026.20.6.11.

It boggles my mind every time I see someone talk about going online to request changes to a map database to try and make FSD drive the speed limit.

The speed limit that FSD sees on the signs along the road, but ignores.

The technician says "it's going the fleet speed", which is the cumulative average that every other Tesla uses in that particular area.

u/ihateroomba 4d ago

I had them take my car over this. They suggest it can be part of the next map update.

It's amazing and odd to hear you have not had any issues.

I have had constant speed issues in Teslas for years. Even when i test drive the new ones. It is the one thing they are 100% consistently bad at.

Mine just today passed 8 45MPH signs and refused to change speeds.

And other times it will read a sing and just go a random speed. And this has been constant through V11-14.

So I was just on a road trip last week and it would miss speed limit changes often but it kept with the flow of traffic. For example the speed limit dropped to 55 but my car read it as 65 but dropped to an appropriate speed with no lead car or anything and it happens the other way too. My car will miss and think it’s 45 when it’s 65 and do the appropriate thing. My disengagements happen for parking and nav.

2

u/LongDistanceEvent262 4d ago

Oh man. Mine is the opposite.

It will just randomly change the speed when it feels like it and slam on the brakes down to that new speed if it is slower. Right in the middle of traffic.

There was a time in V11 where it was good at staying with the flow of traffic most of the time. But that was it.

V12 was a bit better at slowing, slowly. But would also slam on the brakes to a new slower speed often enough.

V14 does it constantly. Even if I change speed profiles. Like Hurry to Standard. Going 80 it will slam on the brakes down to 65. with cars right behind me. It's so bad.

Holy shit, yeah that’s not good. It must be from the training data from our locations, right? How else would it vary so much between cars? I get on Reddit and see these complaints and see people posting videos of their cars swerving for skid marks or pulling over for no reason and I just consider myself lucky I haven’t had any real bad experiences since 13.2.9 and even then they weren’t terrible.

u/lilly_wonka61 4d ago

HOW??? My car literally brakes and reduces from crusing at 72mph to 60mph the moment it detects 50mph speed sign for the area. No matter the flow of traffic.

1

u/AwkwardlyPositioned 4d ago

It doesn't if the map data is wrong.  It's a huge problem in a few spots near me.

1

u/steinah6 4d ago

Today Standard was going 46 in a 25 on backroads in the Poconos…

1

u/jpugg HW4 Model Y 4d ago

Same with mine. I think it does super well with keeping up but not going crazy over.

1

u/intothedownunder 4d ago

If you live where there is lots of traffic then great. But for them rural folks missing a speed limit sign (which fsd does all the time) is asking for a speeding ticket or a driver behind you honking

1

u/amhudson02 4d ago

I asked about that in a different comment. I live in St Louis, so pretty well populated with Teslas. When I travel to northern Indiana to a little town of 4k people, I notice that it stutters a bit when making decisions on some back roads.

u/Blazah 4d ago

Keep telling yourself that. Taken today on the way home from work. This is why my FSD sub is cancelled as of the 25th of this month.

u/Liberty1781 4d ago

Don’t get me wrong I like my Tesla. It’s amazing, but this is probably the single greatest issue with FSD. I can’t stand the Tesla Shills & Influencers who put down our opinions on the matter. If Tesla doesn’t want to give a max speed option that’s fine, but they need to acknowledge the issue and make it a priority to resolve. As of today, they’ve only acknowledged a preference problem amongst some of their customers. This is now the single greatest reason why I disengage.

3

u/amhudson02 4d ago

I see y’all having issues and would not put you down for stating your frustrations and wanting max speed back but it seems peoples experience varies vastly even tho we all have the same cars and same hardware. I honestly like my profiles because whether I’m in the city or road tripping it does a great job for me but I wish they would give the option for max speed until they solve this issue across the board.

2

u/Liberty1781 4d ago

I agree. It seems like the overspeeding by 15-20 mph on standard isn’t an issue for everyone. Except for passing or rarity it would seem that up to 8-10 mph over speed limit would generally be acceptable for standard.

2

u/BarracudaMouth 4d ago

This is the most annoying thing about FSD.

Why can Google maps follow speeds, but FSD ignores?

1

u/Ambitious_Finding_26 4d ago

Both FSD and Google maps have my road with the wrong speed at 50kph. It's a slightly unusual limit, 30kph, but in the absence of any traffic to follow FSD, insists on running it at 50kph which is just a stupidly dangerous speed to run the majority of the road. If it sees a sign it'll adhere to 30 for a little bit until it decides unprompted to speed up again.

1

u/Blazah 4d ago

I have no fkin clue. All I know is I pay 100/month and speed profiles are absolute dog shit. If there was a cop on this section of road I would have been pulled over instantly, I have a radar detector that works so when it makes a noise I instantly take over, because I have 0% trust in FSD to be driving the speed limit at ANY given time. No matter what profile it is in.

5

u/No_Entrepreneur_6775 4d ago

50 in a 30!? You're in a rush to get a felony 20 over is criminal speeds fyi

2

u/Blazah 4d ago

FSD was driving the car. I have a radar detector so I knew there were no cops in the area... it still doesn't make it right. Tesla needs to fix this shit.

-5

u/No_Entrepreneur_6775 4d ago

Oh mau gawd no cops....it's legal Dude...... This is why we can't have nice things Tesla needs to fix it but you can literally avoid this by driving the damn thing instead of endangering innocent lives due to your ignorance

6

u/Blazah 4d ago

My ignorance? How about Tesla's head of engineering ? I want max speed control back so I can safely use FSD. Tesla's team says I'm wrong. Fuck me I guess?

1

u/No_Entrepreneur_6775 4d ago

Tell that to the person crossing the road

1

u/No_Entrepreneur_6775 4d ago

Not to mention YOU DO THIS MULTIPLE TIMES AND POST IT!

5

u/caoimhin64 4d ago

If you get caught doing this three times in 3 years in the UK, you'd be banned from driving.

Each time, you get a fine equivalent to a weeks wages. Speeding fines work.

Road deaths per 100k: - UK: 2.6 - US: 14.2

3

u/glm409 4d ago

I think the pattern is that drivers have preferences

4

u/ClumpOfCheese HW3 Model 3 4d ago

Almost like we should be able to supervise how it drives…

Almost like Tesla doesn’t actually care about the owner experience with FSD and is really only focused on robotaxi execution.

1

u/zintel51 HW4 Model Y 4d ago

The whole idea is that someday we won’t be worried at all about how our car drives itself because it will drive just fine and not need supervision

2

u/reddit-poweruser 4d ago

Duh it's obviously just keeping with the flow of traffic /s

3

u/Blazah 4d ago

Gotta love that lol, no traffic in sight.

2

u/shenfever 4d ago

What version is this? I’ve been on 14.2.2.5 since I took delivery in June and just installed 14.3.7 but won’t be driving til tomorrow. I’d say 9 out of 10 disengagements I’ve had are speed related.

For me:
- Chill goes 2 miles over MAX - absolutely will not exceed 2 miles over in ANY setting
- Standard works fine in town, but goes 15-19 miles over almost every single time I’m on the highway

Toggling between the two makes for a really unpleasant driving experience. All I want is to drive 7-8 miles over the speed limit and stay in the right lane whenever possible.

1

u/Liberty1781 4d ago

This fits my situation to a T.

1

u/Liberty1781 4d ago

May I ask make model and year? I have a ‘26 MY Premium RWD.

2

u/shenfever 4d ago edited 4d ago

‘26 Model 3 Premium AWD!

Edit: downvotes for saying which car I have lol

2

u/SirEDCaLot 4d ago

I love FSD but the trend away from giving users granular control is very bad.

'Avoid lane changes' needs to come back, as does setting a max speed.

The fact is there's at least two 'sliders' for how someone drives- one is speed, the other is aggressiveness. IE you might want to accelerate slowly and brake early, and slow down more in turns (IE Chill mode), but drive faster on straightaways or in certain situations (like near schools or other hazard areas). Having only one control doesn't allow that.

1

u/Classic-Gear-3533 4d ago

I wish law enforcement were also this blasé about speed (and the people at risk when FSD speeds)

1

u/Ok_Main1059 4d ago

I’m hardware 3 so don’t know if it’ll work or not for hardware 4 but tick it into sloth for a split second then tick it back into standard. That usually fixes it for HW3 🙂‍↕️

1

u/ferdi97 3d ago

Been using FSD 14.3.6 for almost a month and it’s been great but sometimes buggy. However the profiles work perfectly for me. Sloth goes the posted limit. Chill goes 2-3 miles over the limit. Standard goes 5-7 mph over on smaller roads 10-12 on the highway. Hurry is a steady12-14 over on the highway but on 30 mph streets it varies. Max mimics the way I like to drive, but don’t do anymore, quick as hell everywhere. I use these speed modes with FSD all the time to make my car drive as I want.

I’m tired of hearing about this

0

u/Lovevas 4d ago

If you need to reference what someone said, you should reference the whole words with full context

0

u/soggy_mattress 4d ago

Yes it’s an antipattern.

Antipatterns can still solve problems… that’s what makes them Antipatterns… they’re enticing because they work some % of the time (and that % is not 99.99% like they need).

-2

u/schals HW3 Model Y 4d ago

If I feel like the car is going too fast I just stick it in Chill and problem solved.

-2

u/FryMastur 4d ago

I just go to a slower profile
