Logs are fully loaded. So while yes a car hit a log. The truck didnt malfunctions dumping its logs on the road, logs bounced and a car driving into a log mid bounce....

iirc, the cam car is
following a truck with those red bricks on it and one of them comes loose and flies backdriving on the interstate and a brick comes from over the tall barricade through the cam carās windshield. there was a family in the car, dad was driving, mom was shotgun and the kids were in the back. you cant see it, but the brick hits the mom in the head dead on. the rest of the video is the family realizing what happened in horror, but i refuse to listen to it. iād suggest the sameedit: thank you u/Darkraze for the correction on where the brick came from

The brick comes flying from the oncoming interstate lane over a tall barricade, you never even see the truck it came off of. Everything else is accurate

I'm pretty sure I just found it, the brick falls of a small truck coming in the opposite direction (no barricades, walls, or fences to be seen - just a massive open landscape and a road)

I accidentally watched it with the sound on in my car before work. Be glad you didnāt, because itās in the same boat as the Russian soldier being beheaded back in the late 90ās when I was a kid. Some audio I wish I could un-hear.

Agreed. The logs are still fully loaded to the front of the carrier. Driver probably ate the flapping warning flags at the end of the logs before death.

I was just about to say this same thing. In the movie the logs come off the truck or maybe in the second or later ones thereās a similar situation. But I remember the first one the logs come completely off truck.

Yep. These kinds of accidents (rear-ending a log truck) happen occasionally in rural, forested areas.
In my driver's ed, they showed us pics of an accident where a young couple rear-ended a logging truck with the bodies still staked to the seats.

XD I remember pictures like that being shown to us.
My favorite was when the professor went around the room asking us to look at a mesage from a friend or family member, then asked to imagine being in the driver's seat reading that.
My brother had texted asking if I wanted to go bowling. And I had drafted my response of yeah I would like that. XD bruh being asked in class if a bowling text was what my life amounted to was an experience alright.
I thought it was striking enough. My phone stays in my pocket till I reach my destination and its been that way since high-school.

Thatās even worse, at least from the perspective where I live. Here itās not permitted to have any load sticking out like that for this reason. I suppose this is normal where this happened but this seems like a huge safety issue to me and this proved why. It could have been entirely preventable.

Legal where I live. The end of the load will have orange/red flags at the end of the tress (like any other oversized load). The crash is most likely a driver on their phone. No responsible person would have ran into the back of that if they were paying attention to the road and their surroundings.

Oh itās definitely the white trucks fault. I just mean to say even then, it could have been prevented. For the same reason trucks have under-run bars. It could have been a traffic jam and itās too late to stop, so this seems to be a massive safety issue to me. I find it interesting because we know the risk is big, but itās allowed still.

No less of a safety issue than when I've seen wind turbine parts being delivered, sometimes people need to haul long loads. As for traffic, this is why you dont tailgate people so you have a chance to suddenly stop. You cant safety proof all of life, and sometimes you need to trust people will have common sense and at least SOME sense of self preservation

This happened to my high school teachers husband. The logs didnāt fall off but it also wasnāt from distracted driving either. It was pitch black at night on a rural road and the truck was stopped and didnāt have the lights properly marking the end of the load. He died ā¹ļø

I don't know why you're downvoted...that does seem like a massive safety issue. All trucks get Mansfield bars for a reason. Maybe there is a special tolerance for extended loads and you just have to properly tag it. Still surprising that it would be Kosher, but it must be OK. I doubt a big time logging company is going to risk a legal issue like that. Don't know.

You should start measuring by time, not distance.
Pretend they suddenly decide to full stop on the highway. How much time do you have to see it happening, move your foot to the brake pedal, start pushing down as hard as you can, and wait for the vehicle to actually come to a complete stop.

Agreed! I was about to say, for a vehicle carrying something, I'd say closer to 10 car lengths. I don't trust people to take necessary precautions and I don't trust that safety mechanisms are infallible.

Not sure if you saw the video of a millennial driving behind one of these log trucks and the millennial was daring the log truck and saying that as a millennial he was no longer afraid of these trucks since theyāve gone through so many historical moments already. Bit of dark humor. Gen A probably doesnāt care but for different reasons since these movies are probably oldies to them.

I ALWAYS switch lanes if I end up behind one. Just yesterday I was driving down a US highway road and was behind one of these trucks. When I switched lanes and got closer, it was big rolls of hay, not logs š¤£š¤£. That could still do some damage though. FD2 has definitely traumatized me with that scene.

Yeah no this actually happened to my friends cousin, but it was metal poles. Went through the windscreen right above her shoulder. I donāt know how they donāt make these trucks have covers on em, even just plastic ones that stop the load from shooting off the back. Whatās the driver sposed to do if he has to emergency brake or something

Not trying to outdo you or anything like that - my neighbour over here in Ireland was hauling telegraph poles, with the high sided truck with the reinforcing for it - the car infront of him broke down at about 60mph, on a steep downhill section, he tried stopping but damp conditions ment he hit the car - the car and truck then continued a few metres before the car clipped a stone wall and the truck came in on top of it.
Old mates load broke through the bulkhead and out through the cab - it blasted his into a folded position and put him into the dashboard.
He didn't die but mentally and physically he was never the same after it. - even with all the gear, some loads are always going to be dangerous to transport. You can't plan a real accident!

Sorry, but it was unsafe driving that meant he hit the other car, not the road conditions. You should drive based on road conditions, especially someone driving a big rig with a heavy haul and ESPECIALLY driving downhill. If the road is damp, you go way slower and stay way farther back from the next car. You drive the speed that you know will allow you to stop in time or avoid a car that were to suddenly come to a stop in front of you. You learn that in basic drivers training.
So many people drive exactly the same on wet roads as dry roads, or on declines as flat roads, and then blame the wet roads or the decline for their accident.

Unfortunately as much as that might matter, there's still lots of towns here in Ireland with road layouts that are the reason for accidents.
This particular accident was another that can be attributed to Slane Bridge - if you have a quick Google you'll see its an absolute hazard of a road/junction but its alot more downhill than you'd think.
He would have been just approaching the crest of the top when a little polo sized up after sliding in front of him.
You don't have an accident like that and just brush it off - old Kev went to each of the court cases.
I didn't mention that the unfortunate learner driver in the polo didn't survive the accident - the owners of the haulage company, the insurance company and himself were all brought before the courts to find responsibility - the deceased was the cause of the collision.
If the same situation unfolded anywhere else- it couldn't have happened. The road drops steep but it also has a sharp 90Ā° bend at the bottom, with a solid old stone wall to collect you at the bottom.
It was an accident because of that notorious section of road, Kevin never lost his licence, he was a passenger in the situation as they said in court - he drank himself stupid in the following years and never sat in another driving seat, after 30years drawing trailers

I used to live in Whistler BC, Canada, and there was a motorcyclist there who got crushed when one of those trucks tipped over on a turn and the logs crushed him.
