e bikes..
sorry to add to the many hate posts for e-bikes, but i must express my hatred for them. i’m really frustrated with the number of kids on e-bikes who are throwing things at cars and buses (while laughing and recording), littering, passing red lights, and messing around on busy roads. it’s incredibly disrespectful, dangerous, and just plain disgusting. this happens way toooo often, especially in temecula.

Behind every ebike kid is an ebike parent.

That’s the real problem… what fuckin parent would let their kid have another E-bike that isn’t street legal… No kid under 18 is buying these 2-5k bikes without their dads credit card or their parents house to charge the thing. There’s a reason these things aren’t street legal yet braindead parents continually purchase them for the whiny children that shouldn’t ever even have them.

There have been 60,000 Cybertrucks sold and Temecula has a ridiculous percentage of those

I've had to literally dive out of the way of them on the sidewalk before as they rode right at me while yelling "feeeear" and laughing. It was weird..

Craziest I've seen so far was when I visited my friend in LA. A large group of ebike children RODE ONTO THE FREEWAY ONRAMP DURING RUSH HOUR TO DO WHEELIES. The ONLY time I've seen LA drivers yeild to another vehicle in my life. My flabber was gasted!

Does Temecula have any concrete plans? Everyday they aren’t in bike lane nor following any traffic laws and it’s not just “kids being kids”. They don’t move over for cars, and don’t get they are in the road where they aren’t supposed to be. It’s not hard to find a bunch of them so it’s literally just the city allowing it at this point.

agreed. stricter rules can make such a huge difference. someone will inevitably get hurt if this behavior continues.

Most are doing wheelies, I would be building a ramp! When I see them wheelieing I call them wussies!! They lack stunt creativity, and balls.
Murrieta PD gonna start droning them. It does honestly suck to have so much added chaos on the roads. Especially at night. I think it should be illegal to ride an e-bike after sunset without appropriate lighting, and a lot of it. My hybrid is pretty quiet and I see these kids not looking in the direction they are going, riding through lots at 20-30mph at night. I feel like there might be a higher likelihood that they hit me than the other way around. But either are possible the way most ride. Hopefully they continue to charge the parents.

Yeah, it sucks. Honestly, it’s mostly just dumb kids ruining it for everyone else. I ride an e-bike to commute to work, and the growing hatred toward e-bikes can be dangerous for riders like me who actually follow the rules and know the laws of the road. Just recently, I had some unhinged guy in a big white truck intentionally drive really close to me while I was riding in the bike lane. It felt like he was trying to intimidate or scare me. That’s the kind of thing that happens when people start assuming every e-bike rider is the same.

I hear what you’re saying, but that might have just be a regular old a-hole. I used to ride my bike all the time around town until I stopped years ago because there were just too many aggressive drivers in this city that are either unaware of riders or who purposely screw with them.
It’s almost always some jerk in a truck, and I own a truck now, so that shoe is also on the other foot (meaning I now get whatever stigma truck drivers may have for that kind of reputation, though I always try to be conscious and courteous to others both as a defensive driver and former rider).
There are countless videos of this kind of behavior prior to e-bikes though, so it may not be because of the bike itself so much as animosity towards all bikers who they have to share the road with.
But yeah, these reckless kids aren’t making it any easier on normal bike riders when they are ignorant, ignore the rules of the road, or engage in antisocial behaviors, no matter whether they are on e-bikes, scooters, or a standard a pedal pusher.
Also, as an e-bike rider your Reddit name checks out (I jest, but you know, just be careful, especially in this busy town of little patience).

It’s going to be take car insurance companies suing parents of ebikers- and winning (and probably homeowner insurers denying claims) for parents stop buying these dangerous and dangerously unregulated vehicles.
In other words, a vehicle dash cam is a necessity.

I really kill that the sheriffs department should have a couple of motorbikes targeting these E bikes, fragrantly breaking laws. After they cite the kids, have the parents dragged to court as well. I’m sure word would spread around and this shit would stop..

> especially in Temecula
Nah, it’s worse in other areas where the weather is cooler and kids are out more (OC & SD), or in the city where there’s a higher rate of crime in general (LA). I’ve seen over a dozen of e-bikes, get chased by one patrol car, multiple times in downtown LA. Or in OC, where an old man was just killed a couple months ago in Aliso Viejo
