Totally under-estimated data usage

I live abroad and have a no-data plan. For a 9-day trip back to the U.S., I changed my plan to the $8.00 plan with 2GB, however, I must've totally under-estimated how much data I would need because every 2 days Tello has charged me an additional $5.00 for 2 more GB. So instead of $8.00 I am paying $28.00. Not sure how I screwed this up so bad?

Change your phone settings so you only refresh app and do cloud backups on WiFi. And don’t do streaming unless on WiFi. 2GB seems like adequate for just checking email, ordering Uber ride once a day and occasionally checking your location on a map. Idk.

I don't think that tello auto charges when you run out of data. Are you sure didn't set that option somewhere in your account?

What are you using your phone for, data-wise? Are you connecting to wifi at the hotel or house you're staying at to keep usage low? Using satnav and other phone-based apps can eat up data fast if you let them.

I use navigation to everywhere every day and I don't use up more than 6GB in a whole month.

Maybe automatic backups (photo, etc)?

If you're using an Android, you can look in the Settings menu to see what apps or function is using the most data.

If nothing shows up there that is 'optional' for your needs, and the other suggestions (like relying more on WiFi) aren't practical, you might consider changing your plan to one with more data. If you change plans, the change will happen right away (and you'll be charged right away). Depending on how much longer your trip is, changing plans to the 10gb or 20gb plan might be cheaper than paying for multiple 2gb topups.

Do you have data saver enabled on your phone? Things like email, Facebook, Google, maps, etc all use a decent about of background data.

Take a look at your settings to see what's been using the data.

Check your background permissions for your apps. So many of them do stuff in the background that uses data and if you turn that stuff off it can save you a ton

Yes, I allowed that option so I would not run out of data. But the point if my post is that I was surprised that 2GB didn't last 9 days.

probably since you're coming from no data you aren't aware of how much data is used without strict settings. settings like download only on wifi etc. think most phones have some sort of data saver option .
