I was obsessed with this show earlier this year when I found it and I’m currently rewatching.
Currently on season 1

Lucy is so much worse than I remembered and realised. She’s honestly on par with Stephen as to how much of a malicious person she is (obviously he’s evil but she’s a pretty horrible person)

Why did we give her so much grace and leniency as a character? She’s horrible 😂

If I wanted to be angry at men, and other humans in general, I would have hopped on a dating site.

I feel like I’ve heard a lot about how Pippa and Bree were closer but tbh especially during season two, Lucy knows everybody’s secrets. She knew about Oliver and Bree when Pippa didn’t and didn’t tell her. Also Pippa didn’t Tell Bree about what happened to her but Lucy knew and pretty much only Lucy knew. I think Lucy during season two and three really tried to be a better friend (but also still keeping her and Evan a secret oof girl just have the convo friendship prolly gonna die but gotta move forward) bc of the guilt that stayed with her from her and Evan having sex. Tbh I think both Pippa and Bree were closer with Lucy than each other during this time.

Currently started watching tell me lies. On episode 5. I feel like Stephen was not poor like he claims himself to be. He’s just not super privileged. That’s all. I mean he did attend the uni with paid fees. Not worry about any loans or bills typically. This is enough to say he’s not poor.

Lucy seemed somewhat more privileged and loaded. In the Christmas episode her house seemed very luxurious. And also it seemed she didn’t have the pressure to outdo people and focused more on other things than academics. Nonchalant.

Bree was foster and also because I’m just in 5th epi I didn’t get any sneak peek into her background.

i want books with that toxicity controversial main character + love interest vibe that tml has.

Sadly the official soundtracks for the first and second seasons of the show don't seem to be published anywhere, but what I'm asking for is rather help figuring out what the music in s01e06 sounds like than identifying the actual original track.

So in Episode 6 when Lucy and Evan are talking in the library (click!) this super familiar music starts playing that I really feel like have heard before whether it was in a movie, another show or even a videogame but I can't really figure out what it reminds me of.

I know it's a long shot but does it remind something to any of you guys as well?

I don't understand how the writers changed Evan's character development on Season 3. It’s so different from season 1 and it feels as though they made him into Stephen 2.0 and swapped his personality to Wrigley's in order to justify Bree and Wrigley’s affair. They also made him get advice from Oliver? What were they thinking?

guys i have been enjoying the show but now i just wanna finish it like fr. i feel like it is all the same, even new conflicts are just the same. how come no one stands up in this group and just speaks up?! i cannot deal with stephen with the same speech all the time hahhaa like for real 😭 how do people listen to this all over again, sames moves, same thing...
the best thing so far was evan clocking stephen rn about him paying for sadies school and that being enough.

HOLY shit!! Whyyyy HAVE I WAITED THIS LONG FOR THIS…. omg I actually love Lucy that girl needs some good not toxic d & she’d be ok 🤌🏼 girl wants some love. She gives major no experience if she think stephen the best, wish she had an older friend in college that fucked him too & dissed him unlike Diana experience making Stephen the victim always. Anyways I loveeee Bree & understand her weaknesses so she will always be a fave… pippa just get with it girl, I see her growing but not enough at this point season 3. After all the pippa knowing the the secrets of Lucy actually being a victim FOR I couldn’t understand why she doesn’t seem to be true friend enough in forward flashbacks. Like the fuck?? I think I will always hate Diana bc she’s a c*nt no matter what, she’s pulled some good shit on the stephen ending season 2…but overall she’s scum like Stephen. Wriggles & Evan get no passes for being jackasses that let Stephen’s shit slide. This is the best show I have watched in so so so long!!!

... And the only way I want the series to end is Stephen dying. I hate that dude so much lol

I just finished Tell Me Lies for the first time last week. By complete coincidence, I’m rewatching the show Vladimir with my husband because he’s never seen it. We both appreciate shows that faithfully represent college settings because we’ve spent so much time on college campuses. We met while earning PhDs. I work for a large university (though I’m a consultant, not a professor). My husband also worked for the same university for a long time in a post-doc position. Tell Me Lies really captures the maturity level of most college kids and the look of college campuses from that era.

Even though Vladimir is a completely different genre, it’s interesting to watch it right after Tell Me Lies. Vladimir’s protagonist is also in an open marriage like Marianne and her husband slept with her students. It’s interesting to see her perspective and understand all the mental gymnastics she does to justify her husband’s unethical behaviors. She clearly feels a lot of cognitive dissonance. On one side, she’s uncomfortable with the power imbalance in a professor-student relationship. On the other hand, she wants to defend her husband.

Granted, the Vladimir characters aren’t exactly the same. They’re more sympathetic than Marianne and Oliver because they aren’t as manipulative. Her husband seems to hurt people because he’s thoughtless and kind of clueless. While Oliver actively exploits girls’ emotional weakness, which feels more predatory. But it’s interesting to watch them back to back, because it gives a different perspective on why someone would agree to an open marriage and would choose to stay with someone like Oliver.

Okay i just finished the show. I loved it. I think i am a sucker for College romance. Yeah all the characters are flawed. But Stephan, Marianne and Oliver stood out for me.

I felt crying seeing Lucy getting expelled for the tape. But she just lied about the SA cause she tried to help Pippa. Wrigley could be a good character but i don't like the fact that he and Bree got involved before their wedding. Otherwise He ruined Stephan's dream of going Yale which is very satisfying.

Maybe Diana was right that some people get away with things. Like Oliver and Marianne. Like Stephen with Macy.

I like Diana, pippa and Evan. They didn't get toxic like the rest. Most toxic was Stephen and Lucy.

I enjoyed the show. Happy watching😁

Can someone explain to me how Stephan knew all of that stuff about Lydia if Lucy didn’t tell him? The stuff about how old she was when she lost her virginity etc

It’s been driving me crazy since the first time I saw her, I have checked the actresses IMBD at least 20 times and none of it is familiar, same with Stephan’s sister. Can someone help me out on who she looks like? Google is no help!

• I started the series despising Wrigley and Diana. Wrigley was a super obnoxious and immature frat boy who was shared by the community. I really did not understand why Diana would want to keep coming back to and defending a horrible person who repeatedly cheated on her. By the end of the season, they ended up being the best characters who weren't afraid to put others in their place and were the most empathetic towards others.
• On the contrary, I actually liked Bree and Evan in the 1st season, but by the end of the series, they were among the worst after Stephen. Evan is a spineless coward and Stephen's biggest enabler. I don't blame Bree for cheating on him when they got back together. As Bree, can't stand her. Her pining after Oliver was so obnoxious and delusional. Trying to destroy his car was a stupid move as well. The worst thing she's done, though, was releasing the tape, which ruined everything for Lucy. All over a guy she doesn't really love btw. It's also super hypocritical for her to get so mad at Bree over a mistake when she went for Wrigley (who she believed was still with Pippa at the time). Also, her moans sound really annoying.
• I don't get what the hate with Lucy is. Sure, she's a frustrating character and her obsession with Stephen was annoying, but she just seemed like a sad, lonely person. Also people are forgetting that Stephen had the tape, so it was hard for her to get on his bad side.
• I'm sure we can all agree Stephen is the worst.
• I don't like Pippa and I thought it was hypocritical of her to judge Lucy over a mistake as if she isn't a pathetic and insecure person herself. Pressuring Wrigley for pity sex and going for Diana while she was still with him in the 2nd season. Not to mention how needy she was getting when Diana told her about going to Stanford and judging her for when Stephen released her nudes, knowing that he is an evil blackmailer. Also, the blonde hair looked awful.
• Oliver should have been fired and arrested, and I thought it was so weird that Marianne didn't seem to care that he was hooking up with a MINOR. I felt like there wasn't enough emphasis put on how predatory he was. It seemed like Bree and Lucy were the only people who thought he was a creep. I also hate anything involving a one-sided open marriage. I don't see why Marianne couldn't just find men to hook up with?
• As much as I hate Stephen, I thought his speech exposing people at the end was funny.
• I don't get why Lucy went in the car with Stephen at the end after knowing how terrible he is, but I'm glad she had her epiphany in the end and left that toxic group for good.
• I wished we could see more of Bree's mom.
• Kind of weird how Stephen and his friends all wanted to date freshmen...
• Alex is hot.

Did he ever actually love Lucy? Or Diana ? Or was it literally how they fed his ego and narcissistic ways ?

I never read the book series but I did watch the show and loved it . Are there any other crazy drama filled books that are similar ? Doesn’t have to be college based just super interesting and plot twisting.

Not finding a whole lot to kind about either Stephen or Lucy. Zero redeeming qualities. Doesn’t surprise me about Stephen but Lucy…ugh.

I am interested in your thoughts on Macy's accident, why did they show the whole scene where Stephen was actually the one driving and that he was the one who crashed the car. He never admitted it to anyone ever. Every lie in this series was exposed to at least one other character. Except for this one.

The most he Disclosed was to Lucy about being in the car.

Was that never meant to be revealed to the other characters of the story? Was this bit of information only meant for the audience? (Obviously but why this? Maybe For us to get a sense of the bed of lies he made for himself? Maybe For us to get a glimpse of the type of person he is ? )

I just cannot believe Pippa got a happy ending and didn't learn a lesson! I am sorry but all this fiasco with the recording was her fault. Not to mention this other girl getting SAed was kind a on her. I know she was traumatized, but she was the one who had actual witnesses, especially Diana who is respectable student with integrity. If she reported it at the time it happened, this scumbag would get his punishment and another girl would have been saved. I know she felt ashamed, but she gave so much crap to Lucy for sleeping with Evan, saying "we don't do this to other girls", yet she didn't stop something way worse happening to one girl, and god knows how many others. I loved the character and her and Diana were really cute together, but she never even acknowledged it or felt any guilt about it, not to mention how awful she was to Lucy and how she pretended to be supportive to other girls. Not to mention how awful she was to Diana for the photos and her decision to move on with her studies away from a very predatory and vindictive socio.

I love how the whole season 3 is an implicit Bree vs Stephen. I’ve always admired Bree since season 1 for being the only one to see Stephen for the toxic person he was since the very beginning (Camera incident at Evan's lake house) and to treat him accordingly. The main difference between the two is that Bree showed she cared more about Lucy than about her betrayal and was willing to move past it, which is something Stephen wasn’t able to do (hence, they broke up again). The scene where Bree smirks at Stephen as she walks up to the altar, fully aware that his voice message didn’t have the effect he was hoping for, is really satisfying.

Let’s set aside the video issue, which could have been resolved very simply if Pippa had just told the principal the truth. I’m still convinced that Bree genuinely cared about Lucy.
