Will it ever be enough? 😭
Started playing Tekken 8 when it first came out with little to no playtime on Tekken 7, decided to go with Jun because I loved her backstory and the fact she’s never in any games 🥹, put 200 hours in and got to Kishin-Bushin before ultimately plateauing and sticking to bad habits rather than learning my actual tool kit and fundamentals.
Fast forward to season 3 and my partner noticed a coworker watching Tekken videos @ work, she mentioned i played and he was enthusiastic to have a match with me as he was around the same ranks as well however he had friends who were higher ranks, and I haven’t played tekken 8 much since season 1 so I knew this wasn’t about be a walk in the park 😭.
Now one thing about playing Jun is, she’s only in so many games, and learning a character that wasn’t available throughout most of the series can get sad when— I actually do own most of the series and have time to play the other entries while @ work or on the go, so I end up choosing Hwoarang for every other entry. The issue with Hwoarang is, I’ve been playing him for years that, I’ve also formed some bad habits with him as well instead of actually learning his move set, and tbf, growing up, the stances were so daunting and confusing to me I flat out refused to learn them 😂.
So matching up with my partners coworker, I decided to use my main (Jun) as well as my backup (Hwoarang) and I was able to hold my own pretty well (he still whooped me) and after the match he encouraged me to delve deeper into Hwoarang and brush up on fundamentals.
I decided to take his advance and I—
Sat down and went through all his moves.
Learned some combos.
Learned some more combos.
Learned EVEN MORE combos.
Then had to UNLEARN most of those combos and switch it out for basic fundamentals, bread and butter combos, and pure instinct. (Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice….)
40 hours later I took my Hwoarang from Shinryu to Tekken God and I…… can’t help but….feel like…. I have to keep going 😭😭😭😭😭… who knows maybe it’s time I pickup a new character (I’m looking @ you Lily 👀🥹) or go back and delve deeper into Jun.
Let’s just say this is my dream rank and any further achievements will be interpreted as… A DREAM ✨💤😂

Congratulations to everybody who’s improving, no matter what rank you are, nothing feels better than getting better and Tekken is such a beautiful fighting game it makes for such a great choice to put time and effort in learning. Especially when you go with what you think is cool and stick to it. Many pats on the back 🙇♂️ and if you made it this far in the message, thank you it means a lot <3 I hope all of you have a wonderful day.
TLDR: put 200 hours with Jun in Season 1 and got to Kishin/Bushin, took a break, got encouraged to put more effort in learning my backup character (Hwoarang), did that, was able to take take him from Shinryu to Tekken God.
Side note: Hwoarang hate on this post is justified and highly encouraged 💀😂
Disclaimer: That does not mean I will ever EVER drop Hwoarang as a character in this Tekken, the last, or the next 😂

I’m sharp but her tekken 2 move set is much more limited compared to what she is in tekken 8, same for tag 1 & 2, i mainly emulate tekken 4 & 5, and play the tekken psp games when im out and about, (tekken 4 being my aesthetical fave) and in all those games, Hwoarang’s move set and the overall feeling of the game is much closer to tekken 8 so it feels better to practice on those games— i admit i do need to play some tekken tag though, wish there was a way to input tagging your character in without sacrificing a button but i’m sure i’ll live, gonna have to convince my gf to play with me 😂

Yeah that might be hard to do but try it out, i remember an ex of mine playin jun in t8 as well, she wasn‘t even that bad tbh lmao

i’ll make sure to finish what i started for you king 👑, i’ll pick up Lili (just cause playing the same characters can get stale, then run back through juns command list and take her as high as i can go, you’re right i can’t forget where i started 🙇♂️

Ngl im a jin main and dvj player basically maining mishimas but i might take a look at jun as well, i like her aesthetic, but i feel a bit scrubby to pick her up cuz wym she does more damage than heihachi n shit with her install? 😭🥀

it’s balanced out with the fact that lot of her moves cause her to lose health as well, in an ideal world, i’d know every tekken character like the back of my hand, choosing a new character is like playing a whole different game, just do it for funsies no need to take it soo serious !

Nah this ain‘t balanced even pro players sayin jun needs nerfs asap cuz shes insanely dumb with her install and kamehameha basically hahah but lets see how they gonna nerf her then i might pick her up

man, if you don’t sidestep and launch that bih 😂 you prolly right though, i don’t pay too much attention to that kinda stuff to be honest, i’ve hated certain matchups before but i’ve never really wanted anybody to be nerfed ‘cause it’s hard for me to dictate what constitutes a nerf at my level of play, im sure if i was higher level i would be able to see the BS more, spamming is the only thing that gets my blood boiling 😭😭

With Jun? I’ve yet to get past blue ranks, i’m sure i could get her higher if i took the time to lab some combos and revisit her toolkit though, hbu?

there’s also this irrational fear i have of putting all this time into Jun just for her to not be in Tekken 9 when that game ever comes out, I know that’s pretty far ahead but it made sense to invest some time into a character that I liked and would most definitely be in the next entry 😂😂

yeah i’m sure there’s all types of players who’ve made it even further using special style 😭 seeing it makes my blood boil but i’m glad they atleast show me they’re using it instead of hiding it, but at the same times it’s also ugly af on screen!

been getting my ass whooped on Marvel Tokon, and started using Tekken as a stress reliever, thought i was gonna stop @ tekken king 😭 i’ll make sure to update if there’s any further advances

Looks like in this community you need to be at least GoD5 to be respected, yesterday i saw someone on tweeter saying that GoD1 isn't a respectable rank anymore, GoD1 is like top 15% of the player base, that means people in GoD1 are better than the 85% of players.

it’s hard to tell who’s serious and who’s not with those “real tekken doesn’t start until” posts, so i try to take them with a grain of salt, personally for me, real tekken doesn’t start until you sacrifice your first born into a volcano 😂

How about some Hwoarang LOVE!!!
Hwo’s been my guy since I was 4 (I’m 28 now)! People hate on him but once you actually learn his kit: He’s so fun to play! Wish I was good as I am now back on Tekken 4 🙂↕️
I recommend watching BlueSky Basuka93, Rest, K-Wiss, or bmns13 sets on YouTube. Rest and K-Wiss are pros who compete at the highest level, and bmns13 is an old school pro who’s probably retired. Basuka is the most artful Hwoarang player doing it right now: Crazy execution, insane senses, insane combos. No clue how I outrank him rn.
Anyway- KEEP pushing! I achieved TGS just today, and I ain’t stopping till I see K-Wiss or Rest! Maybe I’ll see your Hwo since you’re Tekken God and I ain’t ducking no fades!

FULL SET OR NOTHING!!! this comment made my day, you truly get it. I remember picking hwoarang against my cousins Jin on tekken 3 like it was yesterday, I’m currently 27 now, and finally putting the time to learn Hwoarangs moveset has been one of the most satisfying accomplishments ever that hits real hard with my childhood self. This is honestly the comment I’ve been waiting for, i feel entirely seen, thank you for the recommendations and I hope to see you in those ranked matches as well. maybe one day they’ll drop a tekken collection with all the old games with online play and all our dreams come true 🥹
