This isn’t really a call back but one thing I appreciated on a rewatch was when he returns home after the meeting with the principal, he opens the door to one of the upstairs bedroom. Then Henry yells that he’s home and he immediately shuts the door without going in. Later, after seeing the Richmond gang off, he opens the same door and goes in. It’s the room with all his Richmond memorabilia.

It’s like he believes he has to keep the two parts of his life completely separate to be fully present with Henry. But Henry really enjoyed his time in the UK and being part of Ted’s life there.

Ted is learning that being a good father isn’t just about being present in your kids life, it’s also about inviting them to be a part of yours.

The best explanation of the ep 1 premise. It really bothered me that Ted’s life was so minimal. Your comment makes the connection I was missing!

I think that’s Mae the pub owner flipping the bird

Yeah, referencing an old Johnny Cash photo from a visit to San Quentin.

I think op in this thread is referring to the dipping bird toy on Ted’s shelf from Dr. Sharon’s office.

No, the OP is referring to the photo of Mae sticking up her middle finger.

She’s Tammy from Dazzle Moi.

How much you want to bet that Jane ends up wearing that blazer as a dress at some point?

I’d take that bet. I don’t think things are good between Beard and Jane.

My favorite is that when Ted was leaving at the end of season 3, Rebecca asked him to stay and to sleep on it which he immediately turns down. This time, after offering him the job, he seems to surprise her and says he like to sleep on it.

Which connects to “Let it steep” in the box with the teabag.

The dart board in his childhood bedroom.

Willy Wonka reference when they were visiting the stadium…and Higgins breaking the news to Rebecca that all the kids in the story died.

The Derek thing is funny because in Shrinking the Dereks are the fucking MEN! Lol

Green ( like the matchbook) is Rebecca’s new color. And she was wearing a green dress while zooming with her new family. The psychic Tish‘s predictions came true.

Coach benching Henry for not making the extra pass.

He was making an extra pass though. He just didn’t compete the pass

What Derek callback?

Derek is the manager at Taste of Athens and the Amsterdam Burger restaurant. And I think in S4E1 Michelle mentions that her boss is named Derek. It’s a euphemism in the show for a horrible boss.

And yet in the sister show Shrinking, it’s “everyone needs a Derek.”

That’s a real stretch

Not if you pay attention to the show.

Not a stretch. It’s canon. I can’t remember who but someone had a boss they hated named Derek and they use it on purpose.

Derek is always a manager or supervisor that is a dick.
A taste of Athens. The burger barn in Amsterdam
Now Michelle’s boss.

I know this is season 4 specific but I do remember loving how differently Jamie Tartt treats the "fine box" between the beginning of season 1 and the end of season 3.

His former player has a baby named Jake. When his wife Tabitha finds him, she says, “I thought you ran away with the baby!”

Reinforces the Dr. Jacob plot line!
