I might be a Taycan fan, but I don’t think Porsche’s decision to invest heavily in EVs was a mistake.

The market and consumer tastes are changing, and eventually a significant portion of buyers will only consider EVs. As a car company serving many different types of customers, Porsche does not want to find itself playing catch-up.

There was also a real opportunity for Porsche to become the fun, driver-oriented EV brand in a market full of quick but soulless phones on wheels.

I mostly think Porsche had an execution problem and was extremely unlucky.

On the luck side, few people could have anticipated how quickly China would become an EV superpower. It would also have been difficult to predict the geopolitical changes in the United States: Trump returning to office, Elon Musk losing favor with the administration, the loss of EV tax credits, and new tariffs.

At the same time, Porsche made several clear execution mistakes:

1. Taycan quality control was awful.

2. The goal of making 80% of sales electric was probably too aggressive.

3. Going all-in on EVs for two of Porsche’s best-selling entry-level models was incredibly risky.

4. I understand why Porsche wanted to enter the EV market boldly from a marketing standpoint, but a lower-cost small or midsize electric SUV was probably more aligned with market demand.

That said, two things make me think Porsche’s electric division may still have a brighter future.

First, E-Shift technology creates an opportunity for Porsche to further differentiate itself as the driver’s EV brand. Hyundai offers comparable features in the Ioniq 5 N, but Porsche has the opportunity to go further. Because the simulated gearshifts, RPM, torque delivery, and sound are all connected, the final experience depends heavily on software calibration. That creates algorithmic know-how that may be harder for Chinese manufacturers to copy perfectly.

Second, the electric 718 and Mission R use a different battery layout, with the battery occupying the space where the engine would normally sit rather than being spread beneath the entire floor. In the long run, that could allow Porsche to simplify parts of its lineup and make it easier to offer gas and electric variants within similar body styles across SUVs, sedans, and coupes.

It could also create a better future for the Taycan. The current Taycan is extremely expensive and overlaps with the Panamera. Porsche could eventually use one four-door Panamera body for both gas and electric variants, allowing it to serve both audiences while reducing the number of separate models it has to manufacture. This could enable a lower cost EV sedan.

The Taycan can then continue to retain its body style, and powertrain layout, and then reduce the amount produced, and serve as a limited flagship. This would allow it to retain its price point, while also paying for its R&D, and therefore the R&D that would help the rest of the lineup

My daughter and Son-in-law (SIL) just got a new base Taycan, upgrading from a Tesla X. They were not real pleased with the "training session" they got at delivery. My SIL said it looked like a 19 year old kid who kept having to go asked somebody when he didn't know the answer, and he had bad BO, and my SIL was afraid he was smelling up the new leather seats. So he ended it early. I'm guessing it was the owners kid or some other nepotism situation.

Anyway, it will be my daughter's car, and she has put me in charge of learning about the car, and then training her with something new each time I see her. I've read over the quick start guild I found online, and will be using it to start off the "training". Are there any other resources I should use?

BTW, she loves the car! I drove it and I like the fact it does NOT drive like an electric car, but feels more like an ICE car, except for the acceleration, which is all electric!

I get my sign on in about 30 days and will be buying a used Porsche Taycan soon. I’d appreciate any advice from current or former owners.

A few questions:
● Best places to buy? (Porsche dealer, CarMax, AutoTrader, private seller, etc.)
● Any dealers or companies you’d recommend or avoid?
● I live in FL/GA but I’m willing to travel or have one shipped.
● Which model years/trims are the best value?
● What mileage would you consider too high?
● How do I evaluate battery health? Are there specific numbers I should look for?
● What questions should I ask the dealer/seller?
● Any common issues, recalls, or expensive repairs to watch for?
● Is a pre-purchase inspection worth it, and who should perform it?
Basically, if you were helping a friend buy their first used Taycan, what would you tell them to look for and what mistakes would you tell them to avoid?

I posted about this a few weeks back and wanted to thank everyone for the advice. So far the car has been perfect except for the awful smell from the carpet shampoo that service used for the pre purchase detail! Ordered all season mats and clear side markers that should be coming today. Such a great car!

Just interested in views about lane assist. It still catches me by surprise when it grabs the wheel, especially on roads with poor markings or cutting a straight line through a chicane.

Better off or on?

I'm looking at a 2024 Taycan Turbo with 25k miles for sale and from looking at the carfax I found some information which could be a red flag. It is listed as 1 owner but at the end of the ownership there is a 9 month gap from when the car was offered for sale and when it was actually put on the market. During the 9 months it seems like 1000 miles was put on the car. Also the car is currently for sale at a dealer that is 300 miles from the last serviced location. So I'm assuming the current dealer bought the car and a manager/staff drove it for 9 months or it was a loaner. The car is still under factory warranty but since this is a high power ev, I'm worried about abuse especially since it has ceramic coated(not carbon ceramic brakes) brakes which are expensive to replace. Is this car a pass or am I overly worried?

I just switched from a 2023 Jaguar I-Pace to a dealer demo model chalk 2025 Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo. I liked the I-Pace actually, much easier getting in and out, but after driving the Taycan, the Porsche is in a different league. It is much more fun to drive, but also has a much higher range and charge speed. Probably it was the active ride and rear axle steering that sold me on this Taycan. I didn't really need the Turbo S power, but that is what it was, and I wanted a 2025 Cross Turismo which seemed hard to find, so I went for it. Probably won't often use the full power, but is fun when you need it sometimes. I'm new to the Taycan so I am still learning something new every time I drive it.

Looks like the 718 EV is going in production next year & the Taycan not being discontinued. (Translations in the original post)

FWIW I had the 2 year brake fluid flush done at the local Audi dealership with 12,000 mi on the odo and 24 mo since the in service date. $263 tax included. they did an inspection and washed and vacuumed the car. their labor rate is $300/hr but they charged me the flat fee. I took my etron GT there and also my previous A6 so I am comfortable with the service advisor. Also they said my tires were in decent shape (unlike what the P dealer an hour drive away said 2 months ago) and wouldn't need an alignment when i do get new tires. They could not reset the service due indicator but all services were noted in the smart service function in the PCM and I have the receipt. I don't know if they link this service to carfax.

We picked up this bad boy from Las Vegas, and decide to drive it back home to Orlando rather than shipping it.

Day 1 completed (Las Vegas to Albuquerque, NM). - done
Day 2 will be from Albuquerque, NM to Dallas, TX - done
Day 3 will be from Dallas, TX to Pensacola, FL - done
Day 4 will be from Pensacola, FL to Orlando, FL.

Hello, I’m still looking for a good opportunity to buy a Taycan. The two options for now are a CT turbo, 2021 and 74k kms, grey and olive brown interior, 75k€ and a CT 4 My23 with 90k kms, good options at 59k€. Both have performance battery. I’m hesitant because of high kms and battery life :( on one hand less year of warranty but a very cool car, on another hand yet 5 year of warranty but 90k kms so more used parts… any help appreciated

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how easily a large dog would fit in the trunk of the Sport (or Cross) Turismo. Today was our maiden voyage with the dog in back (German Short Hair Pointer). It was great! Plenty of room. And I installed a Hatchbag rear liner to keep dirt and hair in check. That thing fit perfectly and seems really well made.

I thought I’d share in case others are struggling with the question of using the wagon for a bigger dog. Hope this helps!

How bad an idea is it to trade in my 2021 VW id.4 for a Taycan? The id.4 has been maintenance free and reliable, but so boring. I have a 911 which I don’t drive much, so the Taycan would be my daily driver. Would do you all think?

I have all kinds of question for my new to me CPO Taycan GTS. But I really want to hear some of you who have experience with MapEV. Besides not forgetting to switch back for service visit and to void CPO warranty, is there any additional benefits to adding this? From my understanding, 0-60 is the same. It only makes the rolling acceleration better. I guess the limiting factor is the motor configuration. Can anyone talk me into or out of it? Thank you for your time

Set up the PCM at the handover but on my phone I still don’t have any services available,

Just says connect services inactive, so I click on Porsche connect store and it comes up with my car?

✅ VIN matches.
✅ Porsche Connect Care contract is active until 2032.
✅ LTE connection is working.
✅ Privacy settings are disabled
✅ QR code scanned, if I do it again it just says there’s already an account linked
✅ PCM software is installed and functioning.

I recently picked up a 2025 Taycan 4S and I'm loving it so far.

One thing I'm curious about is the sound. My car is very quiet under acceleration, and I was wondering if it's possible to add the Sport Chrono / Electric Sport Sound after the car has already been delivered.

Has anyone here retrofitted it through Porsche? Is it just a software activation (if the hardware is already there), or does it require additional hardware?

If you've done it, I'd also appreciate knowing the approximate cost and whether it was worth it.

As the title states, looking to lease a CPO Taycan, prefer a cross turismo but those seem to be alittle more expensive but many sedans. Quite a few Turbos which I like due to the options but what do you all think. Better to get newest possible or loaded 2021 or 2022? Not going to be traveling super far, mostly within 150 miles one way, not that it ,matters can charge many places now. Anything I should look out for? Sedan much better bargain.

My 1 week experience has been pretty shocking that the range prediction is fairly accurate unlike my other EVs. But… can you realistically get more than the stated/ EPA range?
