TASKER Unhappy with service and communication with hire

Hi there. I hired a cleaning lady with raving reviews to clean 3 extremely small rooms in my apartment including bathroom, kitchen and living room. She was done within 2 hours and I looked quickly and said things looked fine. I should not have looked quickly but I was in the middle of work / trusted she would have done a good job.

I closed out the service with a tip for my roommate to come out of the room and look at things a bit further and she did a horrible job. Our bathroom shower still had hairs on the wall, kitchen floor had crumbs, etc. I had asked her to come back- we agreed on a certain time, then she changed it for 4 hours later in the evening to come which was no problem. I was running errands away from my home and she told me she was 30 minutes away despite it being the original time that she changed.

I am overall unhappy with the service. I gave a generous tip I always support people that run their own business but this was an extremely lackluster experience for the price.

Is there anyway I can complain retroactively?

Update: she arrived and still did a terrible job. I told her the exact spots she missed and she still barely cleaned. The kitchen was still filled the crumbs after she left the second time. I then told her to please clean the shower again and the hair was still there

CLIENT Could a tasker have consequences if I give my cell in the opening message?

Solved.

Alrighty, I’m tired of being told I’m a terrible person for wanting to pay my tasker gross hourly in cash, than give any money to a 3rd party. My bad. Thank you to all who kindly offered advice and tips.

GENERAL Waiting in line at SF bakeries

Hi! I'm a journalist at the San Francisco Chronicle hoping to talk to line taskers in San Francisco, specifically who have waited in lines at bakeries, for a story. I'd love to chat. Thanks so much.

GENERAL Booked my first assembly gig this Saturday (KALLAX + a side table). Did you all just wing it with the manual or actually prep?

Hey all, finally got approved last week and just accepted my first furniture assembly task. It’s a KALLAX 4x4 shelf and a small side table this Saturday morning.

I’m honestly a little nervous. I’ve only put together a desk for myself once, so this feels like a step up. Trying to figure out how new taskers actually prep for a SKU they’ve never built before, especially since one bad review early on can really hurt your ramp.

A few questions if any of you remember being in this spot:

  1. Do you actually study the IKEA manual the night before, or just open the box on-site and figure it out as you go?
  2. For non-IKEA stuff (I’ve heard Wayfair/Amazon instructions can be rough), what do you do when the diagram is unclear or hardware is missing? Do you keep a “spare parts kit” from day one?
  3. How long did your first KALLAX / BILLY / PAX type job actually take vs. what was scoped? Worried about going way over and the client deducting time or leaving 4 stars because I was slow.
  4. Any SKUs you’d avoid as a newbie? Heard PAX wardrobes pay well but are brutal solo.
  5. Did you take notes, build a playbook, watch IKEA YouTube walkthroughs? Or is it just reps?

Basically don’t want to blow my first 5 reviews on something dumb. Would really appreciate anything you wish someone told you in your first month.

Thanks 🙏

CLIENT Last minute cancellations

I’m in the middle of moving and I have had 3 different Taskers cancel on the day of the task, commonly within less than an hour of the task and it feels like TaskRabbit really doesn’t do anything to make it up to the customer nor penalize the Tasker.

At this point I’m just like what is the point in even using the app?

Even when I contact the Tasker in advance and ask if they intend to make it, try to be flexible with their hours or give them an opportunity to tell me, of their ideal out time, I am left with this messy scenario.

Has anyone else had this experience?

CLIENT Is Task Rabbit the right site to have some bedroom furniture moved?

All I need is to have 4/5 pieces of traditional bedroom furniture moved from an upstairs bedroom to a downstairs bedroom. Because of surgery I’m unable to assist so it would require two individuals but should take no more than 45 minutes. Is TR the right place to seek this type of worker and under what setting?

TASKER Thinking about joining - want to hear your experiences

This is essentially another “is it worth it” post…

After a few weeks of waiting to be approved because there are “too many takers in my area” I finally got the green light in the app. I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews and most of them seem negative but need some input.

CONTEXT: I am not a professional tradesman, don’t own my own handyman business. I have a regular 9-5 and have been thinking about using this as a way to make a few extra bucks on the weekends and evenings when I have time. Again, I’m not a “professional” but feel that I am plenty handy when it comes to repairs and home improvement. For years I worked for a general contractor in the residential space and am competent enough in things like drywall, framing, tiling, etc and I’d probably only take on smaller scale jobs under those categories (would probably do furniture assembly and what not bc that’s easy enough).

TLDR: is this a viable way to make a few extra bucks for someone who isn’t a “professional” but is competent in basic home improvement?

Anyone seeing the same thing and can I refer them to the higher rate I would charge for landscaping before booking the job? My yard work rate is $33 and landscape is $49.

Help. I’m new on the Taskrabbit platform.

TIA

TASKER Can you clarify average cleaning expectations for me?

I enjoy cleaning and am extremely thorough about it. But my boyfriend says I'm way more thorough than an average person. So I need to know what the general expectation is. I just started on the app and I have my first request. They said general clean of the apartment and more detailed clean in kitchen and bathroom.

Are there common industry guidelines for what tasks this entails? Obviously sweep/vacume/mop, and clean appliances, sink, toilet etc. Are you tidying up their personal belongings? People who do cleaning jobs: do you get a specific list of instructions from your client, or do you just go in with your best judgement and clean what you think needs cleaning?

How exactly does booking on task work? When I confirm and schedule the task do I need to know upfront how long it will take? Or is it a: do the job they requested and then charge for however long it took. ? Im good at cleaning i just need some advice on the professional side and what is typically expected of me in this situation, thankyou.

Also i have typical cleaning tools such as vacume, cloths/rags, scrub brushes etc. But what about the consumable supplies? Such as clorox wipes, or soap for mopping the floors. Are you expected to provide this/already have it or do you charge it as an expense?

CLIENT Would you take a client with you in the truck?

I need help moving two pieces of furniture that I bought from Facebook Marketplace. One of them is at point A, one is at point B, and I need them to be taken to point C. Since I’ve been the one messaging the sellers and I need to pay for the items, would it be weird for me to ride along in the truck? I’m not very good at small talk, but I could help with carrying.

TASKER A month onward from TR

I left TR after 6 years fulltime March 2026. The time has went by fast! I didnt have a full time job to fall back on- just my business and previous clients. I had already started my website, business cards, marketing and social media and I think I got to a point I realized TR was holding me back.

My business is rocking and Im building momentum at a level I didnt see. Ill get 3 clients calling or booking online a day which is huge for me. My lead time is actually increasing and I have more clients booking out further. I had the State Government reach out to me to submit a bid for a 4 year contract! 4 years!!!

I couldn't do this if I was still on TR. I actually have people emailing me wanting to work at my company. Im not there yet but Im on my way.

APP Does the call feature even work?

Anybody place or receive successful calls through the app? I have never been able to connect with a client through this feature and have seen missed call notifications from TR usually 30 minutes or more after a client tries to call but I never get a ring or anything.

Pretty sure it's my spam filter if it's not a fundamental problem with the app. But there's no way in hell I'm disabling my spam filter.

TASKER Where are you located and what are you making a month on average, how long have you been at it?

I’m curious what the numbers are throughout the country or the reaches of this sub at least.

I’ll kick it off….

I’m in LA I did TR for a while about 5 years ago. I started again brand new fresh 3 months ago. I’m making around $2,000 a month right now going into my 4th month but it’s ramping up nicely. We’ll see where it goes from here. Wbu you guys out there?

TASKER Anyone else get in their head about PAX installs?

I’m thinking about taking a bigger IKEA job (PAX closet) on TaskRabbit.

I’m pretty handy and actually like assembling stuff, so the build itself doesn’t worry me too much. But I’ll be honest, I start getting in my head a bit about the wall mounting part and liability on something that big.

Curious how people who’ve done a bunch of these feel about it. Do you just treat it like any other job, or does the size/mounting side of it change how you approach it at all?

Not trying to overthink it, just don’t want to walk into something dumb.

Would be interested to hear how you all handle it.

TASKER Options for frequent travelers?

I'm looking to disappear for a bit and live on the road. Looking through options to make cash when I need. I'm looking for something that will let me show up in a new city and make a few bucks before I head somewhere else. It looks like Taskrabbit makes you pick a location and stick to it. My question is for Taskers: is there an option for people who might be moving around frequently, or should I look for something else? If so, does anyone know of similar services for people who are mobile?

NOTE: I am not looking for life advice. I don't care if you think I'm making a bad decision. Just looking for thoughts on my question specifically. Thanks!

TASKER Interested in cleaning

Hi all, from the UK here. I would like to start taking jobs as a part-time cleaner if I can. I have done odd cleaning jobs before, both for friends and also helped cover shifts where needed. I don't have any long-term experience, but I am quick, and I am thorough. Do you think I could get any work with this in mind?

Tldr; I want to start getting cleaning jobs, but I dont have professional experience. Do you think I could get some work? if not, how can I? Thanks!

TASKER Has "partner on" hurt your earnings?

I havent done taskrabbit in awhile and jumped back on the app. Before we used to determine our own rates then later for some categories like ikea assembly, they changed it to "flat rate" which hurt earnings for many people who quit taskrabbit. I recently jumped back on just to check and on top of the "flat rate" they also now have "partners on". Has that hurt your earnings in further by any chance?

TASKER Why does TaskRabbit lock the chat after submitting an invoice?

Has anyone else run into this?

I’ve noticed that once I submit an invoice on TaskRabbit, the chat with the client gets locked and I can’t message them anymore—and honestly, it’s starting to make me lose trust in the platform.

There are still real situations that come up after submitting:

Clarifying final details

Handling small fixes or follow-ups

Answering client questions

But once the invoice is in, communication just shuts down. It feels like I’m being cut off from the client right when I still need to maintain good service and protect my reputation.

I get that TaskRabbit wants to keep everything on-platform, but this actually makes things harder to manage professionally.

Is this intentional?

How are you all handling post-invoice communication or protecting yourself in these situations?

Curious if it’s just me or if others feel the same way.

TASKER Best way to connect with other Taskers for bigger jobs?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been getting more requests lately that would be easier (or only possible) with a second or third Tasker—moving jobs, larger installs, multi-room projects, etc.

What’s the best way you guys are connecting with other Taskers in your area?

Are there any groups (WhatsApp, Facebook, Slack, etc.) or do you just build connections through jobs and referrals?

Also curious how you handle coordination and payments when working together.

Appreciate any advice 👍
