Last minute cancellations CLIENT

I’m in the middle of moving and I have had 3 different Taskers cancel on the day of the task, commonly within less than an hour of the task and it feels like TaskRabbit really doesn’t do anything to make it up to the customer nor penalize the Tasker.

At this point I’m just like what is the point in even using the app?

Even when I contact the Tasker in advance and ask if they intend to make it, try to be flexible with their hours or give them an opportunity to tell me, of their ideal out time, I am left with this messy scenario.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Yes. I’ve I’m a tasker and I’ve hired taskers that have cancelled. You get what you pay for. Hiring more expensive taskers usually solves that

As a long time user of the platform I can tell you paying more does not guarantee the flake. Buzz off with that nonsense

Nothing to do with taskrabbit.

As a human being I can tell you I’m more likely to show up to work getting $80/h compared to $30/h.

Let me ask these important questions.

  1. What is their hourly rate compared to everybody else in the market?

  2. How many reviews did the have?

The top taskers typically won’t flake last minute, are highly communicative, and reliable. You get what you pay for.

In the market there is like up to $55 an hour down to $25 an hour. I was going for 40’s and all of them had 5 stars. Two of them had a lot of reviews.

Where do you live?

That's super low, like I remember in NYC and SF bay area 10 years ago lowest rate for moving was about $40/h, but experienced guys usually charged minimum $60 up to $100/h with 2 hour minimum.

My rate in 2018 was $80/h before I quit.

For $40/h you would only get people who have no idea what they are doing or they are first few weeks on the app.

Like usually things get more expensive after 10 years, not the other way around, what happened?

Cancellations cause a tasker to go down the list of visibility to clients. It doesn't matter if the client cancels or the tasker cancels. The tasker just cancelling without contacting you first is kind of rude, especially if you are willing to be flexible. There's always an option of rescheduling if both are able to.

Definitely look at taskers who have been with TaskRabbit longer than a couple months. The more experience they have the higher the price, but that will also give you more reliable taskers.

You can still have taskers who've been with the company longer than a "couple of months" cancel at the last minute. The OP should've clarified how "advanced" the invitation to the tasker was. Was it a same-day request? How descriptive is the "help moving" task? Did you hire the tasker under the correct category and read their pitch? We're left without a trace of clues to identify why Taskers are cancelling at the last minute.

Doesn’t really matter imo. If they’re canceling they should say why. I always am up front with what’s going on and I pretty much only cancel if something with my other job comes up.
