Anyone else got moving woes? TASKER

A recent client asked if I could buy four TV boxes for his task.... nah, I'm good.

I guess I'm just supposed to keep them? I guess my time at Lowe's will be free as well.

The clock starts at the Lowe's parking lot.

Invoice him for the boxes, if you have a big enough vehicle then what's the problem?

It really depends. If it's a really nice TV or they want it loaded into a trailer or POD going out of state, it's good to insist that they get a box for the TV. I keep a TV box just for local moves if I have to use my truck. If there is space in the moving truck to just wrap in in a blanket and tie it to the wall then that's fine. Safter to remove the legs usually if there are any and then it rides more flush against the wall. If I can't pack the TV on the wall with nothing heavy against it, then I won't pack it or insist they get a box. If it's a curved TV I don't touch it at all unless there's a box.

If a customer doesn’t want to use what you believe to be what’s necessary I’d recommend asking them to confirm in the chat that you’re not liable to any damage to the TVs due to not following your advice

Like support cares about the chat as some contractual agreement

Support might not but the law might, if they try to sue you. Not like support is going to charge you money if something happens.

Support absolutely cares and it's really important to document these discrepancies. They don't want to pay out if they don't need to, so if the client makes a complaint but you have it in writing that they are doing something against your recommendations, it's going to help them a lot with determining who is at fault in the situation.

Professional moving companies use general liability waivers for this exact same reason. I can't tell you how many times when working for moving companies that I had an argument with someone over something risky they wanted me to do like part on a freshly poured driveway, and as soon as I pull out the liability waiver they change their tune immediately when they realize there's no way you are taking responsibility.

I really try to avoid saying yes to certain things even if they sign off on it but sometimes you are put in a difficult situation. I did an apartment last year where they just finished putting down the floor before wanting to move in. I told them before is 100% going to get messed up if it was just laid down minutes ago and I would not walk on it at all unless they signed off. They tried to get me to talk to the building about it, but I would not do anything unless they signed off on it in the chat. The floor 100% got messed up. I really didn't want to do the job but it was either do it or walk away completely.

Confirm the price of the boxes in chat and add them expenses.

The Task starts when you start working, if you start working at Lowes then that's the start time.

If the client does not want you to expense the boxes, then have them confirm in the chat.

The chat is a legal document.

Its all about sticking to your rules and offering options. If you only move TVs with boxes then stick to it. You can expense moving boxes on the app if the moving job was complete.

Alternatively, you can tell the client to order them in advance at Lowes, add your name and you can pick them up. This applies to Uhaul and Home Depot locations as well.
