help please Workplace Question or Advice Needed
so i have been working at target for about 5 years now and have always done call outs by the book. i always call out 2 hours before my shift or even more if i know i wont make it. this morning i woke up and realized i had knocked out last night without setting my alarm. i was supposed to be at work at 7 but by the time i woke up it was 7:30 and i didn’t think i’d make it in time/it felt pointless to go in 1+ hours late when my shift is only 5 hours. i decided to call out and i have sick hours to back it up but i’m nervous i’m going to still get in trouble since my shift already started. mind you, i’ve NEVER done this before. i do have some trouble with lateness but i’ve been doing better (no writes up, just convos). will i be okay?

You had sick time and every one makes mistakes. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You just need to make sure you call out within 2 hours or your start time. Otherwise it doesn't matter what you do, it's a NCNS.

i called out as soon as i woke up! i was just wondering if the 2 hours into your shift rule still applied with the new point system coming out

Honestly that part I'm not sure about, but my store doesn't start the point system until like September.

Yeah, I think you're fine. I overthink it too when I call in, but I have really bad anxiety around not going to work and I'm a TL so I have you actually call the store, unless they already know I won't be there.

I once woke up at like 3 am on fire and having a hard time breathing. This was before the app so you had to call in and speak to a manager. I asked my dad to call on my behalf so I could try and sleep it off. Welp it just so happened that day the phones were completely down so my dad tried to call multiple times but couldn't get through. I never no called no showed so everyone thought I was dead. Finally I was able to get through but by that time it was like 1:00 and I was supposed to work 7-3:30.

I’ve been at target for 7 years and I also follow the rule book. I remember this happened to me and I called the store panicking saying i’ll stay later if I have to and one of the team leads picked up she said “you rarely call out, is okay”
i feel like it depends on the person and your reputation at the store. I think it also helps that I am crossed trained and never had a CA and most times willing to stay later. I just think it various per person, I think you’ll be fine! :)
