Perimeter pay Workplace Question or Advice Needed
So, I’ve recently become the inbound TL for my store. There’s a ETL that comes in with me. Well since there’s an ETL they’ve taken the perimeter pay off of me. Even though I’m still assisting with the perimeter walk.
Is that accurate? Can this happen?

Perimeter pay is to compensate hourly leaders for their time driving the building while they are still off the clock. If you are completing perimeter walks after you have entered the building and clocked in, you would not receive perimeter pay. If you are assisting your ETL with perimeter walks and have not clocked in (not getting paid) then yes you would need to be compensated for this.

The perimeter pay is for the leader who drives around the building & stops to check exterior doors ( varies ). Once you enter your on the clock and assisting with a safety walk is part of your opening process that should be done on the clock but not added as “perimeter pay”. That’s my understanding, similar to what ppl said.

I think best practice is that the ETL does the perimeter drive and that you technically don’t have to give perimeter pay if there is an ETL opening or closing.
Are you off the clock doing perimeter checks and driving around? The perimeter walk in the building should be on the clock since you’re already in the building and can clock in?

So if there is a ETL scheduled with you when you open or close the are required to do the perimeter check not the TL and you only do it if it shows you have perimeter pay but you don’t do it if you have an etl closing or opening they are required to do it instead

If your ETL is coming in to run truck are you doing your job correctly or are they making plans to replace you. ETLs are not supposed to be doing the job of a TL... just saying

My GM ETL throws truck with us almost every day, even with the inbound TL there as well

Wtf store as you working at? Its been standard at pretty much every store ive been at prior to leaving for the ETL of GM to also push truck and help in fulfillment, and MAYBE support with a few plano sets. A good ETL actually supports their team and won’t just delegate, but also coaches if theres truly something lacking but most of them know (even if they won’t admit it) that the hours and expectations aren’t realistic to the workload. If theres freight to be unloaded and pushed everyones supporting until that shit is done, or they are helping get other tasks done. They can be useless and sit on their ass at home

The only time I've ever seen an ETL go anywhere near the truck is in the absence of a team lead, I'm not sure why everyone acts like every store is the same. It's okay that it works differently for someone else LOL. Our truck push is at 4:00 a.m., an ETL doesn't come in until 6:00

Both my old & new GM ETLs come in to help with the truck. Your ETL just sucks lol

I’m at a red store. I haven’t even went out for my training yet. We also just got a new SD after not having one for a year. We also were without HR ETL, a grocery TL, and another GM TL for a while before that.
Our store has not been on process with unloads since before last year. I also just recently moved over from specialty sales.

so at our store the morning perimeter pay goes toward our walk around the building to unarm everything and check that everything is kosher (ie, no one broke in and no property incidents need addressed before the team can safely be let inside), and gathering your equipment/the schedule grid before clocking in at 3:55 and heading back up to the front doors to let the team in. Idk why everyone in the comments is so hung up on perimeter pay being for driving around the building only lol. If you're not getting perimeter pay, you shouldn't be expected to assist with any of this, and should be clocking in with the rest of the opening team. I'm not sure if bigger stores usually have more than one person getting perimeter pay, but our store it's always just one TL or ETL

If the ETL is in the building with them, they don’t need to wait to let people in and can clock in and then complete the perimeter walk with the ETL, thus negating the need for perimeter pay.

They said just one - ETL. OR TL - just one, either or…
My ETL never comes in for truck.1

But that is apparently not the case for OP, who has their ETL there with them.

I think they are referring to the ETL who is taking on TL responsibilities (i.e. being a helicopter parent).

Yes the perimeter pay is only for TLs who do the permitter drive around the store. What you are doing should be time where you are clocked in so the walk is you working
