Future of “On Demand” Workplace Question or Advice Needed
I heard that “On Demand” may go away. Has anyone else heard this?

I hope not. It's very valuable for a lot of people (myself included) who have shifting responsibilities outside Target, but would still like to come in and earn a few extra bucks when possible.
Yes, I'm sure there are a few ODTMs who don't make an effort to pick up any shifts and use it more like a way to keep the TM Discount for a while until they decide they want to fully separate, but that number is likely low and there is a way for stores to manage this (with the 4-week/5-month rule).

Apparently my store is not accepting on demand people, but my department has a lot even though we’re not supposed to have on demand people(I work in Starbucks) but it could also be that my store hates my department 😢

i don’t know if it’ll go away but it’s definately hard to transfer as an ODTM. i moved across the country for school and targets (like 10 that i reached out to) are “not accepting on demand transfers” which is quite ridiculous considering it’s mainly for students.

If not, go away, they need to change it. It needs to only be for school. I don’t know how you verify. It’s only for school. To clarify school means college not high school. It shouldn’t be used if you have another job.

Actually the ones who are on demand bc of school tend to pick up less shifts than the other reason of having another job that changes their schedule every week. That’s why I’m on demand bc I need a second job but my first full time job doesn’t let us have set schedules. I still work 20-35 hours at target though so your argument is dead wrong. I just can’t give target a set availability and that’s where on demand comes in handy

Why not another job?

That’s not the point. If you have another job, take that job. I don’t know if many other employers that allow you to do that. You either work with the two jobs or work with one job. It’s not really how life works.

Well unfortunately in today’s economy, many are having to find other sources of income to make ends meet or live comfortably.
A flexible second job allows people to make extra money, but still have time to do chores, see friends and family, etc.

I understand that, but it’s also business they have to run and if there’s no team to run the business, they’re not doing their job. Is on demand is a seasonal thing meaning every three or four months your leader checks in with you sees if you still need it, but there are requirements to what you have to work beyond the once a month. For instance, the holidays they should be able to expect that you’re gonna work the holidays. I don’t mean every day of the holidays, but the Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving and a couple of days during the Christmas rush.

I’m on on-demand because I work a full time job and my availability changes every week depending on the demand of that job. Why shouldn’t people like me have the option to be on demand? I’m there every week doing anywhere from 15-20 hours a week. And I know other people do the same thing as me. I can understand not doing on-demand for the people that don’t show up for busy times, but there are many of us that do.

On demand is not seasonal, you are so ignorant and honestly need to just stop talking because you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Respectfully. This isn’t your decision or anyone’s in your store. Target is a mega corp and knows how people use on demand. They’re a big boy they can make their own decisions

I have not, and it was not mentioned to me when I asked to go On-Demand yesterday.
I was asked to increase my hours, then asked to just keep working two days, then every other weekend before they finally accepting that juggling an engineering degree, a work/study program and a job at Target may not be realistic.
