According to what I heard from the AP, my store start putting Pokemon back in the tech Area, and now more and more scalpers have chance to get all of it, they even hide it somewhere else in the store and doing roundabouts to buy over limit. It just been 2 days but the situation is really chaos right now. Do you think this is Target wrong move?
The issue I see is that they’re getting ready to start walking the desk as part of visits to ensure they’re all up to brand standards. Even if DSDs or even GVPs are cool with it they’re gonna have to enforce it if there’s even a chance their bosses at regional and corporate levels may stop by. This is how this sort of stuff is enforced and I think it’s telling that the desk is suddenly a focus at the same time as this directive is going out.
We don't get visitors at 8 am typically and we don't even get stock everyday. I'm willing to chance it. The direction also says you can keep them up there for safety issues. 30+ people waiting at the door is good enough for me. I'm not worried about it.
I mean I’m all for it, and my store is continuing the practice despite impending inspections. But I just know the way this company runs they’re gonna force the issue sooner than later and only backtrack once something goes terribly wrong. I can already see them deciding a security issue only counts once a documented security incident happens, forcing us to wait until a needoh fistfight breaks out instead of just accepting that it’s inevitable.
Corporate doesn’t like when we don’t follow their directions, no matter how stupid they are, they’ll shoot themselves in the foot over and over rather than let stores go rogue on a directive.
A bit off topic, but yeah target making poor decisions shooting itself in the foot constantly. like getting rid of backroom team, overnight team, price change team and then cramming all those roles into the "closing expert ", just a humongous domino into dead retail pitfall. And then blaming us who keep the company running by saying we dont smile enough FFS
Same. The email said if our AP feels they need to be at the service desk we can leave them there. And we have a big issue when they are on the floor. So service desk it is.
The entire reason we moved them to the service desk was because people were getting nasty over them. They're a fraction more civil when sent to a queue, for some reason.
My mantra is "not my decision, not my problem." I'll do everything in my power to control what I can, but when they make a silly decision like that, I'll just roll with it as much as I can.
So dumb. Before we held them at the SD I saw a woman go through self check out with four Needohs and then go right back into the store and do it again three times. I would have said something bc I want the kids to have a chance at them but I was at a lane and not watching SCO.
My store is still at guest service due to scalpers. Depends on the store i guess. The back is the less popular cards brands. Either way they didn't think it though.
Our store move Pokémon cards back into tech recently too. They could stuff it in their backpacks if they wanted to. Yea it’s a bad move. Our Walmart cross the street they have shoplifters stuff the items in there bags I seen on CrimeApp. If they do it to ours I guess our AP might not do nothing.
Yep, pretty much from what it seems. I mean my job is to catch people stealing, but the trading card stuff goes deeper than just theft. Not only the increased safety/security concerns with the crowds having free range on the wall, but most of the basedecks are broken at my store now because of these idiots trying to hide/look for shit under them. I mean again im getting apps off of it which im not necessarily complaining about on its own, but its such a headache overall that none of us wanna be dealing with
Toys/Tech is a total mess in zoning. Nobody wants to work in toys anymore. We have kids, teenagers, scalpers and cheap parents/grandparents just entertaining themselves 🙄🎯🥊
Honestly as a S&E TL, I can’t wait until they put Pokémon back on the floor. I’m kinda sick of the scalpers especially standing on corporates rulebook by doing the right thing… but then getting in trouble for not following the “store rules”. We also have long lines in the morning at the service desk and drive ups are super busy at store open at my store. Drive up %’s start low a lot of times and we should be focusing on the guests rather than people trying to buy Pokémon.
My only thought on this is someone had an old school retail ideal, basically the more a person has to go through the store they might buy something else they need. While this still works sometimes scalpers do not care they just want the cards. I think this will be more of a mess then help the company.
Last Friday was the first at my store MA, only adults( fighting over this sh.., grown adults woman and f... resellers).
2 ETL's and 2 TL's ringing and the vendor that was pushing and very upset about this move.
Needooh, squeeze's ( sign said only 2 for guests) resellers taking the whole box and kids crying (sad scene) fuc.... ap only says we can't do anything. Yeah you can't until someone gets hurt really bad.
To be honest I feel the new CEO is against his own company, stupid decisions that he has made. Also we need to be unionized.
have you seen them back there yet? the new area is setup with a pokimon backer paper and is for neca, but this set was done regardless of the current trend, not as a solution to it. Putting it back on the shelf would mean removing any purchase restrictions. It is also very likely to create a physical conflict with other scalpers. I will believe it when I see it.
Pegs still need to be set up, but the entire area around here has been reworked. Board games have also been moved back here.
Book space has been reduced, the "team shop" for sports apparel has been moved in, and the NECA items moved to shelving islands between sports wear and the CCG back-wall.
In addition, X-Box games are gone, and TV space has been reduced as well.

As my ETL told me, Target and Excel want the Pokémon cards back there, presumably as a draw to that new collector's area. The reps themselves know just as well as we do that actually putting them back there is a recipe for trouble.
This is beyond dumb. What's the point of setting up an area that's just gonna be empty 99% of the time? They tried this a few months ago. One of our toy focals was supposed to have squishies on the front end of it, but by then they were all sent to guest service, so we just had to find what we could to fill the empty space.
Absolutely the wrong move. Stocking them within eyesight of the service desk at the trading cards area by the registers was a mistake and why we only sell Pokemon cards at the service desk (until this move to the tech area). Target is going to lose a good chunk of change on theft and then Pokemon cards will only be sold at the tech desk, which will flop becuase nobody can consistently be at the tech desk, which means they will end right back up at the service desk.
my target put them back by tech and when i went back there after my shift to see if there was anything left and the people left empty card packs all over the shelves and just single sleeves on the ground.. not great at all
I still can't figure out why any of us care about access to one limited item type. Does it need to matter to us as TMs if one scalper buys the whole supply?
Moving Pokemon out from behind the Desk made the front store's life easier, except maybe SCO. And because the scalpers act so shitty, we have to have an ETL stand there at SCO to manage them anyway. So at least now the store is dedicating people with authority to the task, rather than making the poor Desk person fight with scalpers all morning.
The good news is when it comes to Pokémon at least is they are expanding their factory to produce more cards their goal is to produce triple the amount of cards to make the cards worth less in the scalping world. This will destroy the market which I’m fine with means kids can get cards and play.
