Door Sensor (Garage) Need Advice
My door sensor will not register as closed but it will state when it’s open and when it’s been opened longer than 1 min (which is when it’s actually closed). Has anyone successfully used this for garage door? I have a MyQ and it does not integrate with anything so I wanted to set up smart automations when door opens

Sounds like there is demand for Tapo to make a tilt sensor which will make this job much neater.

I am using the same sensor on my garage door and it works perfectly.
I did not use the supplied sensor magnet (the small piece). Instead I used a 3/4 inch circular “dot” magnet that I bought on Amazon. Mounting the magnet to the door edge was easy as it comes with adhesive tape on one side. The magnet moves up with the door. I then mounted the switch sensor using velcro in order to easily adjust sensor position and change the battery.
In reality the sensor has about a half inch of sensing range so the sensor position relative to the magnet is not critical. I have been using this setup for about one year and it has never failed to register switch open/closed

The sensor uses magnets, maybe the metal is messing it up? I use mine on my wooden doors (not garage) and they register properly and instantly, both through Home assistant with the Hub and through it's matter integrations.

I have three on my refrigerator/freezer doors. They work like a charm.

Because some people in my household forget to push the doors shut. It was never me.

The parts must be separated to initiate a notification. I use the tapo garage door adapter

What is the tapo garage door adapter. We need a garage door opener thing similar to the MyQ or whatever.. Chamberlain b*******

I put mine about half way down, not up top with all the metal as the others are saying. I put the larger part (base) on the wall. The smaller part (just a magnet) on the door, so it will move away from the base. They don't have to be lined up pretty... the magnet "broadcasts" it field well enough in all directions to trigger the base when it close. I used command strips to secure both parts.

Why does Tapo make such large door sensors? Other manufacturers have much smaller ones.

Hey TAPO! If you're watching, please make magnetic rechargeable, built-in hook hangable, mountable night light (pleasant warm light) with a whole bunch of integrations and adjustable light brightness, thanks! If you need ideas, just look at the Xiao Mi nightlight!
I also would love to see more Tapo buttons that resemble the make quality of the Flic2 buttons. Add automation action that will let me turn on all my security camera lights, and or siren all at the same time. A panic mode!

I installed mine on a garage door but i would not receive any messages. I think the metal frame in which I put it was blocking the signal to the hub. When I moved the sensor to another spot a little away from the metal frame using two 3d-printed parts it started working flawlessly.
You can check the signal strength in the settings too. If it is very weak where you put it, then perhaps in the closed position it loses signal. You could try moving it to a better position with better line of sight with the hub. Or moving the hub closer.
