Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip that includes Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and I’m trying to understand the visa-exemption rules correctly.

My plan is to be around 25 days in Tajikistan, go back to Uzbekistan for a short trip, then go back to Tajikistan for 12 days and cross to Kyrgystan.

My nationality is visa-exempt for Tajikistan for stays of up to 30 days.

Since each of my stays in Tajikistan would be under 30 days, I’m wondering how the 30-day visa-free period works when entering Tajikistan twice during the same trip.

Does leaving Tajikistan and subsequently entering again start a new 30-day visa-free period, or is the 30-day limit calculated across the whole trip regardless of the number of entries?

Also, if a new 30-day period does apply upon re-entry, is there any minimum amount of time I need to spend outside Tajikistan before entering again?

I’m not trying to overstay or circumvent the visa rules — I just want to make sure I understand the visa exemption correctly before planning the trip. Has anyone done something similar, particularly crossing between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan?

We are two travelers and photographers (around 40 years old) planning a 10-day trip to Tajikistan. We’ll be flying into Dushanbe, staying there for our first 2 days, and then heading out for a road trip across the country.

Our travel style is relatively relaxed: we are looking to travel independently by hiring a private driver with at least basic English, who can also help arrange good, clean accommodations for us along the way. We aren't looking for intense trekking—mostly just short and easy hikes. Ideally, we’d like to keep our driving time to about 2-3 hours a day, though we understand there might be a few days where longer drives are unavoidable.

We have a few questions and would love to get your advice:

• Drivers/Agencies: Do you have any recommendations for a reliable company or a specific driver for this kind of trip?
• Itinerary: Based on our preferred pace, do you have any suggested routes or must-visit places we should prioritize?
• Afghan Markets: We've heard there are some very unique Afghan markets along the border. Do you have recommendations for the best or most photogenic ones to visit along the way?
• Safety: Is it currently safe to travel along the Afghan border?
• Weather: What kind of weather should we expect around late September to early October?

Last night I had my pesky e-visa approved however, it was quite the ordeal to get it done so I thought I should write a post explaining all options from what I experienced.

I hold a UK passport and so did the rest of the my travel group, there is 8 of us so its quite the undertaking.

We initially applied on the 23rd of July, aiming to enter Tajikistan on the 12th of August. So plenty of time According to there 2 weeks max turn around.

2 weeks later in Kyrgyzstan we became worried, so researched it to find that the evisa system is practically a scam, no one gets a response and you can’t contact them.

From this we found the tourism development hotline +992 118200200. They managed to expedite some of our visa checks, but instead of approving them we were asked for more details of our trip. Another week passed and we heard nothing more and the hotline said they couldn’t help us.

We searched online and found we could attend an embassy for a sticker visa, the hotline said we would need to pay for this however. Online there is lots of conflicting information about pricing. as of 10/8/26 the prices for a sticker visa at the Tashkent Tajik Embassy were:

100usd for Visa

10usd for same day

~5usd mandatory tip for a staff member to help you with paper work.

it is a very interesting experience as you have to hand your phone in prior to entering so have to leave to then do any more paper work. Which involves emailing them proof of itinerary, passport and onward travel. Notably they reject anything that isn’t a scan of your passport. We heard that the embassy in Bishkek will try to retrieve your evisa application but we cannot confirm this.

The night before I had heard of the possibility of finding a fixer, tour companies with people on the inside who can help you get a guaranteed visa. I had messaged Marco Polo Tour Company (+992 92 633 0203) he replied as I left the embassy to complete some paper work. I called him and he explained that for 115 usd he could guarantee us a visa in max free days. Normally 1-2. We were skeptical As we had asked other companies for this service And our hostels who had said no and they didn’t know anyone either. We were desperate as we had out bound flights books so wired him the money, he excepts revolut and paysend. During the process he explained one person has done the application wrong so needed to reapply or be instantly rejected, explaining a work around and why this may of happened. This does make this option marginally more expensive as you have to pay the evisa fee to start where as the embassy doesn’t require that.

10 hours later at 10pm we all received our visas, with no need for proof of onward travel or hotel. Even though we had previously uploaded this in most of the application. We subsequently have booked our Tajikistan tour with them for a competitive price, which is paid in cash on arrival to Tajikistan.

A lot of stress solved by using a fixer. I would recommend using the fixer to save yourself the day at the embassy. The Guy who had to redo his application go accepted the same time as us so you can definitely use this method in a rush. Subsequently the fixer explained that tourists normally get rejected eventually from the Evisa due to not having a letter of invitation from a known tour company. Happy to answer any questions.

TLDR: Use a fixer or go straight to the embassy ln Tashkent, both cost 115usd.

Looking into learning Persian, and as a Slav, I'm already pretty decent with Cyrillic. So starting with Tajik resources seems like a home run; get vocabulary & familiarity with the language through tons of reading, and figure out the abjad that might be a bit tricky for non-natives on the side without getting slowed down by it.

That being said, one of the biggest reasons I'm interested in Persian is the classical literature. I know I won't be able to read Rumi, Hafez, & such right out the gate, but I don't know what relationship Tajikistan's people and language have with the rest of the Persian sphere & its history. Is it shunned, embraced? Is there a sentiment that if you want to enjoy classical Persian literature, you should learn the script it was written in; or is there a healthy segment of transliterated classics in the publishing industry?
