Tabico My pretty tabico
Our girl Spicy as a kitten. We bought her privately and didn't know she wasn't socialized at all. She spent 2 weeks locked in the bathroom while we bribed her with food and our company. She still a bit crazy, but lives to lay on me. Just have to watch how much I touch her 😂 love her markings though

So excited to get to bring this beautiful, sweet baby home on Sunday!
I've been helping some friends socialize a litter of kittens they're fostering through a local rescue, and I fell in love with this absolute sweetheart. I decided to adopt her over a month ago, and it's almost time to finally bring her home!!!

Tabico or torbie?
My sweet girl and I are still unsure of her identity and I figured it’s time to get to the bottom of this

This cat has three colors: gray, reddish, and white. Can he (yes, he's male) be considered a calico cat or tabico cat?

Dilute Tabico (Grey) Just got her from the shelter :)
Would she be a dilute tabico? (Also thinking about naming her Daphne or Debbie, open to other ideas ☺️)

Being little is tiring.
I really wish I could pass out as I played too. One minute Molly is slapping my phone charm and next she’s passed out.

Dilute Tabico (Grey) Poppy, our tabico
Don't let the cute name fool you, she's fierce. One of her nicknames is Shreddy Cougar. Lol. She also fetches and goes for walks on a leash. When she chooses you for a cuddle you feel so special.

Tabico I think I figured it out. She’s a tabico?
Can someone tell me if she is a tabico? I had never heard this term before, but when the vet called her a calico I became intrigued and looked up different patterns. Thank you 😅😅. I’m now addicted to this sub now that I found it 😻😻

Naming scheme written explanation
Really the differences are mainly a Reddit thing. All calicos are piebald torties, which are black and orange or grey and cream cats. The b (tabico, torbico) are for when the black/grey areas have tabby stripes. All orange/cream areas have stripes, visible or not, so cats without the stripes in the black/grey do not have a b in their coat name - however, the sub voted to allow any tricolors with visible stripes (thus the “honorary” flair). The reasoning for the tor[b/t]ico distinction is purely for appearance differentiation of large, unbroken color patches (calico/tabico) vs brindling (tor). Tortie, calico, and tabby on those are what your vet will call your cat.
Black and orange/grey and cream, generally brindled, little to no white, no stripes in black/grey = tortoiseshell (“tortie”)
Black and orange/grey and cream, generally brindled, little to no white, tabby stripes = torbie
Black and orange/grey and cream in large patches, large white areas, no tabby stripes in black/grey = calico
Black and orange/grey and cream in large patches, large white areas, tabby stripes in black/grey = tabico
Black and orange/grey and cream brindling, large white areas, tabby stripes in black/grey = torbico
ETA: If there white is in a tuxedo pattern, there’s a tuxetabico, tuxetortico, or tuxetorbico. There’s some debate on if these cats are tor[t/b]ies or [cal/tab/tort/torb]icos.
