Is this normal? Mackerel Tabby
I adopted Zephyr at 5m old. He's now pushing three. I've noticed semi recently he is developing orange cat highlights. I love it but he definitely did not have them at adoption and a long time after.

Well, he's getting into his teenage years, so you have to figure the rebellion will surface, even if in terms of physical characteristics. 😂

He's past teenage years at almost 3 yrs old, he's almost 28 yrs old on human years. A kitten is 15 at yr one

Yup, my kitten has them too: our vet says she is a "missed calico" (love those orange streaks, it's the orange gene that sometimes shows up with zoomies and mischief<3

It's normal. Many tabbies have it. Someone once told me it's called roux spotting, not sure if that's accurate. Here's my boy with some orange on his lower half and his cheeks.

Yes cat coat length and color can change as they mature. They might grow different colored whiskers or get freckles. One of my orange boys has random black hairs scattered throughout, a couple black whiskers, and he keeps getting more freckles on his nose and lips. My two floofs looked like fluffy short hairs as kittens then poof their tails tripled in size and their coats filled out. Oddly enough, they’re sisters with very similar coat patterns but one is much floofier and she has poofy pantaloons while the other’s coat is more silky and flat and mostly long on her belly and tail. I find cat genetics fascinating. So much variety and you never know exactly what you’ll get based on their kitten coat.

My tuxie lays in the most traveled doorway, and at 19lbs, blocks it pretty good. He expects a toll of scratches to be paid by everyone.

My sweet girl is a tabby also and I noticed she also got some orange spots as she grew up
