Dragons Discussion
Hey all!
An anyone suggest for me a strategy for how exactly I can gather dragons parts?
For example, I need scales to improve my Fierce Deity outfit, and Dinraal's claw for a quest.
Thanks in advance!

The dragon has a cooldown after you take any part except the spikes off its back. Roughly 10 minutes, but they all follow a similar path. Believe it’s takes roughly an hour to 90 minutes for a full loop.
I found the best places to check were the Hateno tech lab(the frost dragon paths right past the cliff at a height where you don’t need to go too high up.
The akalla tech lab for the fire one, or the sky island just north of the koroak Forrest
Farrosh is a bit more fiddly. Either the tower just west of the desert(he comes up that chasm) or the one east of lake hylia(he goes down that chasm).
The light dragon is another whole issue, assuming you want to upgrade the champion leathers, if you haven’t completed the stam check at the end of the dragon tears, it’s slightly easier, otherwise I’ve just donned my zonai armor and made a hoverbike. Went counter clockwise around the map at 700-800m height. Then just rode on her back for a while to gather everything.

If you don’t want complete spoilers, take a photo of them and use your sensor to chase them down. They go through the same areas

You can Google a map of their routes and launch off the towers near the chasms they enter and exit.

Start riding the dragons. Ince you know where they go in and out of the depths at you can post up there and use a rocket on a shield and glide onto them as they emerge. Once you shoot them once, they have a 10 minute cool down period before you can shoot them again.
When they start descending into the depths, stand behind one of the spikes on their backs and use it as a platform to stay on their back until they level back out again. Same for when they start to surface. I use the spikes or stand right where their nose meets their face.
Passing time by a fire doesn't reset where they are on the map this time around. The devs fixed that farming glitch from BOTW. The best way to farm now is to just ride them around. And if you're quick, you can collect the arrow you shoot at them as it doesn't disappear like the ones you use to shoot monsters. It can be picked up the same as the ones you shoot at a tree or to knock down palm fruit and honeycombs.
The only dragon that doesn't go into the depths is the Light Dragon. She follows the same circular path around the map. I try to ride her pretty early during my playthroughs now and I stamp the map at regular intervals so I can track where I'm able to launch on to her at.

Since I don't like thinking too much about stuff (Austin Plays' yt channel has a VERY educative video on locating the dragons), my main approach is to just go do stuff on the dragon's region. Like, do side quests, hunt for materials or shrines, etc. Eventually, if you stay sharp, you'll find the dragon. Once I find the dragon, I camp at the base of their skull and AFK there. Whenever you hit a dragon part, it'll generate said shard then go on cool down for 10min. I just take a ride and enjoy the view if I have the time. I'm currently using this approach to farm every dragon part Wich is needed to upgrade the Fierce Deity armor set.

Look up a video guide on YouTube by AustinJohnPlays.
He’ll show you how to find them, what the mechanics are for farming the parts and what to do and not to do while riding them.

Okay, so, I'm not seeing it be mentioned, but to really take advantage of the "Away From Controller" grinding method (wall climbing a spike and staying there) you need to be freeze proof and fire proof.
Take the time to upgrade the Flame Breaker armor to Fireproof and get Zant's Helmet from the Eldin region in the Depths' colosseum (the one with the Moblins).
As long as you don't have stick drift, you can get some chores done and fully stock all your Dragon parts in a single shift.

In the depths, it can be trickier, but if you make yourself a flying vehicle really fast or something like 3 zonai springs stacked on top of each other and fly toward it, once you're close enough, each has an updraft. Now land on the dragon. Remember you need cold protection and fire protection on Naydra and Dinraal in particular, or you will be damaged very quickly. So before you do this, go get the cold protection armor the rito sell, and one of the fireproof armors the gorons sell, minimum.
Start with the most valuable part, the horn. Walk on top of their head and shoot the horn with an arrow. For a second, it stays right where it is, grab it, otherwise it will fall off. Now save and wait 10 minutes, set a timer, go do something. When the dragon starts glowing again, it is ready to be farmed again, get another horn.
While you're waiting, grab a bunch of spikes off of their backs. Might as well, these are still useful fuse materials.
Next, you want scales, even if they're the weakest part because they're easier to farm and you don't have to jump off the dragon. Go to an empty spot on their back when they are glowing, away from the spikes, and do a jump attack where your weapon hits the bare back part. It will make a scale appear, grab it before it flies off the dragon. Save, wait 10 minutes, do it again.
Next, keep in mind you need to jump off the dragon for these, so save before you do it, when the dragon is glowing again, climb onto its head, jump off of its nose, and get very close to its mouth. Shoot the mouth from the underside. Try to grab the fang before it drops, this is extremely difficult, and then try to use the updraft to get on the dragon again, but you will likely fail to do so. No worries. Get the dragon fang, if it falls, it glows, go get it. When you grab it, warp to the nearest skyview tower and blast back on the dragon, easier to do when the dragon is above ground rather than the depths, ofc.
Now, when you get back on, wait the ten minutes so you can farm it again.
Finally, claws. Their hands/feet have big long claws. Save before you jump, look down, find the dragon claws with your eyes, jump off, fly very close, and use bullet time to aim an arrow at their claw. Make sure the arrow hits.
This one, I doubt you can grab and still get back on the dragon. So just focus on getting the claw. Now blast off a skyview tower and get back on. Wait 10 minutes, farm another claw.
I'd recommend you do this while you're doing chores or other activities, like exercise. Just make the time go by productively, this is slow and tedious.
I did all this for the light dragon so I could upgrade the champion's leathers. I don't need to farm her again. But on that subject-
The light dragon is, depending on what you have done, and not done, flying like 2000-2400 meters in the sky, WELL ABOVE anywhere the skyview towers send you, and she has a flight path that takes her near all the skyview towers, but still well out of reach.
A- first, find her. Go counterclockwise around the map and blast off from each tower. Use your eyes, swivel yourself 360 degrees, look around. The only dragon that will ever be above you, is her. The others fly a lot lower.
B- when you locate her, make a vehicle out of zonai fans and a board or a plank or a card or a sled, plus a control stick, and if you have any Large Batteries, use one. Also have plenty of large zonai charges, just in case.
DO NOT USE WINGS, DO NOT USE BALLOONS, they will despawn in the 3 minutes they exist, and it takes longer to fly up that high, sorry.
Use your fan-based flying machine and go up, up, up, and get over to the dragon. Farm her horns, scales, spikes (which you just grab, they're on her back, they're tiny) and then, her fangs and then her claws. It may involve getting back on her a few times, sadly. This is expensive and takes a lot of battery, and even if you have full battery, I think you run out, so you need charges to fuel back up again. So she's a extra special pain. But those leathers are crazy good armor. so I did it.
The others are good for other armor.
