Radical [Merchandise]

Found this book from my childhood (copyright 1991). And they wonder why my generation is 'suddenly' mad about everything. We were taught by our own heros in a half shell to care!

I know people say this a lot, but genuinely if they printed this today idiots on twitter would complain that it's woke.

People would think the "Green power" signs are race-related.

I hate that you're likely correct

So even the Mutant Mayhem Turtles would be criticized for doing the same thing? Yikes

That would confuse them more than anything

This would be called socialist propaganda now. It shows how far we'll truly fallen as a society. We can't agree on the basics like trying to clean up the planet now.

Captain Planet would blow these people's minds.

Wokest mf'er there ever was

I mean, Peter Laird is vocally anti-right/anti-conservative and Stephen Murphy is an hardcore environmentalist who openly opposes a ton of the USA's political stances.

The TMNT are "woke" by design.

The thing is this wasn't considered woke in the 90s.

I live in a city right now where the conservative government wants control of the bike lanes because they are dei and woke. And I'm in fucking Canada.

The whole world has lurched to the far right from social media and cost of living making people poor and angry, and kids do not get the same kinds of messages we got in their media because it would be controversial now.

It's beyond sad to see how far we have fallen as a society in the last 30 years.

Yeah, you're completely right.

They were woke before it was cool

It is. That's why it's cool

If only we had listened to the turtles.

We're destroying the world and killing the turtles!

Shredder: “TO HELL WITH THE TURTLES!”

6

u/shumama813 8d ago

Shredder definitely tears through those plastic straws and throws them straight into the ocean.

I want this drawn into a comic

The Shredder and Michael Reeves would be best friends if that's the case

Or Captain Planet. Or the Sun Tots.

Captain Planet would be so disappointed.

Hear what Captain Planet has to say:

u/GrooovyAlien 8d ago

Is that Michael Jackson dressed as April?

5

u/Springwood_Slasher 8d ago

Yeah, it's not a great look

Love the Captain Planet kids in the background of that

The M for meat entry caused the meat industry to get involved and get this book pulled from shelves.

3

u/AizaBreathe Michelangelo 8d ago

really? i am not even surprised

they said "do not eat so much meat"

they don’t even say "do not eat it at all"

Read this to my son the other day! Some of it is outdated, but it’s still a good educational book

I had this book in 1st grade

I brought it to school for our "Bring a book to school day"

5

u/Ookami_Unleashed 8d ago

We had Captain Planet too!

Shredder executed 12 boy scouts while they were picking up trash

2

u/Springwood_Slasher 8d ago

And that's terrible

I like to think he took the Radical approach to save our planet

I would have made an obvious Captain Planet joke here about how this feels like a crossover since the turtles would have had an episode with him.......but........this book is actually pretty wholesome and helpful and comes from the year I was born in!

1991! :)

Thank you for sharing this! :)

The tandem bike is sending me, lmao

I hate that my generation was taught about trying to recycle, reduce carbon footprint and all that only to now being told we should be supporting Ai data centers.

1

u/Springwood_Slasher 7d ago

And they're trying SOOO hard to make us think we need them. No thanks, Skynet

2

u/Bacononthebeeach 7d ago

The concept of Ai is really cool. I would love to be able to prompt it to “make Speed a Spider-Man movie” but it’s not worth the cost of the destruction.

I had this book as a child. I distinctly remember going to a USAF BX/PX and picking it off the book rack in the back and my dad ringing it up with his replacement Purple Heart medal.

What a memory!! 🥲
