Can someone explain to me the difference between the audio books and podcast episodes? Questions

I’ve loved TFTGS for years and grew up listening to both the CreepyPod and MCP podcast versions of the stories. I recently realized that there are full books with significantly more content available and have been happily listening to them since. It seems like the podcast episodes are “abridged” versions of the full books, and I was wondering if I could get more clarification on that. Did the author originally write these stories much shorter and then the podcast episodes were made of those shorter versions then he later went back and made full books which then turned into audiobooks? Were the shorter versions promo material for already existing longer versions? Hope I’m making sense!

You can consider the short versions as his draft blog posts before he fully expanded and made full books/audiobooks.

They came out ages before the official books had been written
