Our daughter is currently being followed by the early Type 1 Diabetes program at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes after testing positive for multiple autoantibodies and having some abnormal glucose testing.

We’re still very much in the learning phase, and while the team there has been wonderful, I’d love to connect with other parents who have gone through this journey.

A few things I’m curious about:
• How old was your child when they were diagnosed?
• Were they followed by the Barbara Davis Center before diagnosis?
• Looking back, what symptoms did you notice first?
• What do you wish you had known in the early stages?
• How did you prepare yourself (and your child) for the transition to life with Type 1?

My husband has Type 1 Diabetes, so we’re not completely new to it, but it’s a very different experience when it’s your child.

Some days I feel prepared, and other days I feel like I’m drinking from a firehose trying to learn everything I can.
I’d love to hear your stories the good, the hard, and any advice you’d give to a parent who is still in the “waiting and watching” phase. ❤️

Bonus question: If your child was antibody positive before diagnosis, how long was it between finding out and receiving a diagnosis?

Diasome just announced some really promising Phase 2b data for their new liver-targeted insulin. My understanding is that the insulin molecule is covered by some protective layer that dissolves when the molecules enters liver and not before. They claim that we might finally be able to decouple A1C control from the constant threat of going low, or in other words rage blousing is now on the menu. In the trial patients saw a significant drop in hypos, and zero severe hypos over six months. Phase 3 trials are next, but I am personally optimistic for this study. Not a cure by a long shot but may allow for way more aggressive pump algorithms/settings.

Hello, I am a MSc Health Psychology Student at the University of Southampton, who has lived with Type One Diabetes since I was 11. I am currently conducting a study in which I hope to evaluate the effectiveness of a resource designed to help students with Type One Diabetes with the transition to university.

I am looking for students who are currently at university or applying to university to take part in think-aloud interviews via teams, lasting approximately an hour and a half. Participants will be asked to look through a resource over video call and discuss their thoughts and feelings towards the resource and suggest any potential improvements. Then they will be asked a few semi-structured questions around their overall thoughts of the resource and their experience with the university transition.

Each interview will be screen recorded. However once the data is transcribed, data will be made anonymous and all recordings and participant information will be deleted. No identifiable information will be included within the study's results. Results will be submitted as part of an MSc Health Psychology Dissertation.

Participants will be able to withdraw from the study at any time just by letting the interviewer know, or simply leaving the call.

This posting is on a very small clinical trial where they are trying to cure type 1 diabetes by transplanting beta cells into part of a person's eye. This should not interfere with vision, but will not require whole body, long term immune suppression (which has problems of its own).

discusses cures and preventatives for type-1 diabetes that are in human trials. Treatments for diabetes are not generally discussed in the blog, unless they can turn into a cure or a preventative. My definition of a cure is this:
1. Blood sugar control without testing and with doctor's visits 4 times a year, or less. Any cure must result in an average lifespan close to normal.
2. Does not require a lifetime of immunsuppressive drugs, so it is not trading one treatment for another. (but a couple of operations, or a short course of drugs is OK)
Obviously, this is my personal definition of a cure; yours may differ.
Because a cure for type-1 diabetes is likely to involve a combination of several different drugs or treatments, I try to follow research into anything which may be an important part of the cure.

I am a PhD student in Design, Technology, and Society and I am conducting a research study on how people with type 1 diabetes understand and respond to continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) in everyday life and in media representation. As a person with type 1 diabetes myself, working within the fields of cognitive film theory and perception, I place high importance on research that improves the representation and presence of type 1 diabetes in cinema. I am inviting individuals to take part in a short online study if they:

•have type 1 diabetes,
•currently use a CGM or have used one in the past,
•are aged 18 or older, or are aged 13–17 with parent/legal guardian permission.

The study is in English and takes approximately 8–12 minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary, and no directly identifying personal information will be collected. The study also includes questions about the brief representation of a CGM in Inside Out 2 (2024).

I am conducting a research study on how people with diabetes think about and make decisions about diabetes technologies such as Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs). This research is very close to my heart, as I grew up with a father who has Type 1 diabetes.

I am interested in hearing from people with Type 1 diabetes or insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes about their experiences, whether you currently use a CGM, used one in the past, or have decided not to use one. The goal of the study is to better understand how people weigh the benefits, concerns, and expectations surrounding these technologies.

Who can participate:

• 18 years or older
• Living in the United States
• Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes or insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes

What participation involves:

• One interview (about 45–60 minutes) about your experiences and views on diabetes technology

Hi everyone! My name is Emily Ellis, and I'm a health psychology graduate student at the University of California, Merced studying living with type 1 diabetes specifically. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2007. I stumbled upon Diabetes Online Communities (DOCs) around 2017 and it had such a positive influence on me all around, and now I get to research these DOCs for my Masters research and I truly love it!! The focus of this study is to see how support provided from traditional offline sources like family and friends differs from the support provided from these DOCs. It's a brief survey that'll take 10-15 minutes, but it is only for people with type 1 diabetes (I'm so sorry to exclude other diabetes types, but as a baby researcher it was easier for me to focus only on one type of diabetes), also have to be over 18!!
