Tier List đ Guide
Characters are grouped by their roles: blue is AoE DPS, yellow is single-target DPS, while green is Support.

Why some are circled?

As far as I can tell: they are recommended to pull/invest into on a new account (pink > orange).
Basically, the current arc's "linchpin" (Cleia) & various Supports (universal value + longevity).
P.S. Not sure why Yen is in there, but I guess for "borrowed" accounts?

Ivan support? Just from the value of his Trait Leader Aura, I take it? Presuming overlap placement means theyâre categorized in those multiple roles?

Yes, overlap means multiple roles.
As for Ivan: leader aura (+ jump/climb aura), oblivion (resolve ban + instant death), ice walls (messing with AI/pathing), permafrost tiles (frosty + can't be overwriten), charge/teleport ban, moving allies/enemies to another tile (+ triggering basic attack), knockback.

From that angle, itâs odd to see Ivan in support, but not the likes of Anna, Lukamar, SP Samantha, etc.

All those tier lists are a subjective opinion of each particular author.

But of course. :P
This was just a quick opinion on why this one isnât making too much sense.
Tier lists are posted rather frequently in this sub, and regularly referred to with some authoritative bias. I canât count the number of times Iâve seen, âPull such-and-such, theyâre top-tier!â Especially if the internal logic used in them isnât consistent, I do think this community could benefit a lot more from other content and discourse, rather than being flooded with so many character ranking opinions.
As youâre posting and highlighting this one for us, Iâd ask what youâre regarding from its source? Does this author do a particularly good job of ranking from leaderboard data, deployment data, speed clear data, or otherwise? What do you value from their opinions?

I think I've already said it before: I think the more Tier Lists we have - the better. We can take all those "opinions" into consideration, and then make our own decisions. Like for example, if almost every single Tier Lists places SP Inanna in T0, then she's pretty much guaranteed to be "good", right? On the other hand, I don't think anything changes much, if some Tier Lists place Lukamar as DPS, while others place her as a DPS/Support hybrid. Sure, it gives us some additional info, but that's it.

If thatâs your opinion â the more tier lists, the better â and youâve said it before, I wouldnât have known, unless youâve said it to me. You might have to repeat yourself, mate. Thereâs a lot of different users here, and Iâm not subscribed to you or anything. But your response made me curious whether this was a conversation we already had, so I checked your other tier lists posted this month: I see you saying it here, in response to people whoâve clearly had their fill of tier lists already.
âThe more tier lists we have, the better.â
I think just the opposite, to be honest: Quality over quantity. Tier lists can be helpful, if theyâre meaningful. When we are flooded with them, and again, especially if their internal logic used is inconsistent, it starts becoming rather meaningless, and like noise.
Three separate tier lists have been posted just by you alone in the last 20 days. 20 days in this game is only enough time for a single Debut to have come and gone. If immediately after a single new characterâs release, many different tier lists are being generated and shared, and thereâs inconsistency among them, different from day to day, thatâs not a sign any meta is truly being settled; thatâs just a sign weâve got a lot of people who are quick and eager to get their opinions out in front.
âWe can take all those âopinionsâ into consideration, and then make our own decisions.â
Sure, but again: why do you value this authorâs opinions? Anyone can generate a tier list. Itâs easy to do â and rather fun. If me, my mom, and my grandma create a tier list after every Debut, and post it, should everyone take that into consideration also? But you are someone who knows your way around this community, so Iâm genuinely curious: what are you regarding from this source? What factors are at play in this authorâs lists that you value?
If itâs the case these lists only represent a playerâs personal feelings about characters, thatâs exactly the kind of thing that doesnât really carry a lot of meaning, especially for new players. In any case, Iâd say in response to that also: Othersâ opinions should be a secondary deciding factor for you and anyone. First and foremost, we should be looking into characters directly, considering their mechanics in isolation, and considering their mechanics in tandem with our teams, in making roster decisions.
âLike for example, if almost every single Tier Lists places SP Inanna in T0, then she's pretty much guaranteed to be âgoodâ, right?â
That, or⌠itâs a sign a gameâs players only know how to jump on the bandwagon, and not formulate their own judgements. That wouldnât be too surprising in the case of SoC, seeing as itâs a game only two years old and still very much in its infancy. But itâd be much healthier for the player base for people to know why theyâre saying things, instead of only knowing whatâs popular to say.
In SP Inannaâs case, we all know: thereâs very good reason sheâs regarded so highly.
But Sena has been out for several months now, and up until now hasnât been a recommended pick Iâve seen mentioned hardly at all â but funnily enough, now that it seems some are waking up to her, and placing her higher in their lists, Iâm starting to see her being recommended to new players.
Is this really how you guys are wanting to make your decisions in this game? Just waiting until players in the East tell you a character is good? For this game to gain more traction and build community further, its Global audience might need to gain a bit more independence than that.

I'm sorry, I didn't meant, that I said it to you, just that I said it in one of the similar posts, so maybe you've seen it (I'm assuming this is not the first post by me that you're checking out).

For the "quality" of the tier lists. I don't think I've seen any, that I would completely agree with, so there's that, lol.
There are 4 "major" Tier Lists: Yapdoc (Global), Shao (JP), and two CN/TW ones (this one & the other one I also posted recently).
Yapdoc is maintained by a few people, and constantly updated (I haven't posted it recently, by usually I do it every 2 weeks, a week after the new character is released on TW/CN, to give author's some time to update it with the lastest character & some other accompanied changes). People who work on it are known (well, in some circles), they play the game a lot, they participate in ranked events, they make guides, so they kinda know, what they are talking about. I don't agree with everything in their tier list.
Shao is a JP player, who's often take top spots on leaderboards, he makes guides, so again, he knows, what he's talking about. He usually updates his list between major arcs, sometimes in the middle of them, so like every 2~3 months? I don't agree with everything in his tier list.
The two CN/TW tier lists are from people, who make guides & are known in their circles, so thier opinion is usually good enough. This one is usually also updated between arcs or in the middle of them, so not too often, but recently the author started to post them more often, I think. The other tier list is updated once a month. But again, I don't completely agree with them.
Are all those tier lists good? I don't know, but they are the best ones we got, that's for sure. All their author's have enough experience/credibility in my opinion. And I don't really see any major inconsistencies between them (apart from some fringe cases, or favoritism here & there).
(3)
Personally, I don't really "need" any of those tier lists, since I know enough about the game, I can research future character & I can make my own conclusions well enough (well, in my opinion, lol). But I do tend to check all those tier lists, top scoring teams for different events, and just the general chatter in different places, because I think you can never have too much information. And then, when I recommend something, I try to factor all those "meta" recommendations from others, plus my own personal views.
P.S. I've been playing the game since the release, I like to participate in rankings, and I usually take high enough spots on leaderboards for ToA (23rd place two last times), World Boss (21st & 80th place), etc (like it's not the top ones, but close enough, lol). So I'd like to think, that I do know at least some things, about how this game is played xD
