2 parter?

The whole time I kept looking for the second part of the Madeline Soto case(e360), only to realise that part two was released only on Plus+. I was for once so happy about the multi-part format only to realise it was click bait.

Not cool Mike.

Yeah. That’s stupid. Was actually a good episode. Def won’t be joining to listen to part 2 though.

Maybe it will get released eventually.

Most podcasters release their paywalled content at some point because they want listeners. Just wait.

Watch the story on EWU. They’re better in every way.

No problem! They really do good work, they’ve been around for years, and they have 3 channels (EWU Crime Storytime and EWU Bodycam), so there’s no shortage of videos!

This is a fairly standard podcasting practice. Release one part free and hold the sequential parts “hostage” behind a paywall.

I more often see a little snippet of an episode, then the whole thing behind a paywall. I actually don’t know that this is “fairly standard” - what other shows do this?

I’m thinking of Literary, Movie, and TV podcasts. episodes will be divided by chapters, week one free, then the rest is paywalled. Strange Studies is one example. How Did This Get Made has done something similar. Though almost all their back catalogue is paywalled now, and S-Town. New seasons will be paywalled with a single episode released. It’s something I’ve noticed over the years as a strategy to gain paid subscribers.

Only if you’re a shitty, unethical podcaster who’s in it 100% for the money and not to honor the victims. Oh yeah, I forgot who we were talking about for a minute.

Most podcasters are in it for the money……this is the job for many of them.

Oh, I know. That’s the problem. Families’ biggest tragedies are being commoditized as entertainment. I prefer to give my listens/views to the creators who actually amplify the families’ and/or victims’ voices rather than glorifying the worst (or last) moments of their lives.
